Porcupine Mountains pt 2

East and West River Trails
These trails follow the Presque Isle River, largest river in the park. Very Dangerous river...several caution signs. For your saftey, no swimming or wading is permitted in the Presque Isle River.

This was a beautiful hike. The river is amazing. It changes from fast water, swirling and making pot holes. To slower water, cascading down natures hand made rock steps. It was a great weekend to get out and hike.

Porcupine Mountains Part 1

Porcupine Mountains
October 8th and 9th 2011
78 degrees on the shores of Lake Superior
Lake of the Clouds
Union Spring Trail

Union Spring
This was amazing. Union Spring is the second largest natural spring in Michigan. If you look at the above photo you can see the bubbling sand. It was eerie to see the sand bubble and then it would stop for awhile and then start up again. The water was clear and cold.
Heading out to our next trail.

Lake Superior and the Porcupine Mountains in the back ground.
To be continued....

Joy

Joy is a choice. It is a matter of attitude that stems from ones confidence in God. That He is at work. That He is in full control. That He is in the midst of whatever has happened, is happening and will happen. Joy is a choice.

Klinger Farm Market

Saturday was beautiful in Northwest Wisconsin. We visited Klinger Farm Market between Bloomer and Chippewa Falls. We had a wonderful afternoon. This was our first trip to Klinger's...but I see many more in years to come.

Pumpkin Bowling!
This was so much fun. I love this last photo of Atticus.

Tic Tac Toe
My sister was visiting from Merrill, WI. It was a special day for all of us. We loved the 4 1/2 acre corn maze. What is fun about this maze, is you want to reach the dead ends. Each dead end has a punch. You punch your sheet and if you find them all you get a prize!

 Happy Harvest!

It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown

"Waiting for the Great Pumpkin isn't stupid!" Linus replied. "Just wait until next year, Charlie Brown. You'll see. I'll find a pumpkin patch that's real sincere and I'll wait until the Great Pumpkin rises up..." And who knows? Maybe next year....

Out of doors

To be glad of life because it gives you the chance to love and to work and to play and to look up at the stars...and to spend as much time as you can, with body and with spirit. In God's out - of - doors these are little guideposts on the footpath to peace. Henry Van Dyke

Nutty for Acorns!

Nutty for Acorns!
Use chocolate frosting to attach a mini vanilla wafer to a chocolate kiss. Snap a little pretzel stick for a stem and use more frosting to attach it to the wafer. Let the frosting set for 20 minutes before serving.

Raking leaves with a friend

Atticus loves to rake leaves and jump into them. He will rake for a long time to get a big pile. He is a hard worker and loves to rake leaves.
 Molly is coming to help.
Max the Cat is enjoying the leaves.
Jumping in to the pile! That is our favorite thing to do!

Junkins

For a no mess alternative to carving, create a face on your pumpkin with doodads from the junk drawer. I decided this would be great for the kids at school. Friday, we decorated our Junkins! Take a peek at some of the funny dudes.

Creator of it all

It is simple things, like a glowing sunset, the sound of a running stream or the fresh smell in a meadow that causes us to pause and marvel at the wonder of life, to contemplate its meaning and significance. Who can hold an autumn leaf in their hand, or sift the white warm sand on the beach, and not wonder at the Creator of it all?

Ukraine continued

We were able to treat the kids to an outing. One of the outings was camping. We took them camping on an island. Yes, the tents you see are the tents we slept in.
Having fun.
Looking back at the city of Kiev from the island

Soccer! The favorite game!! They played in the tall grass.
Me, having a little talk, with Maria. We played ball together and laughed at each other. It was fun. We could not understand each other, but both had a great time.
My roommate Erica, painting nails. We brought fun stuff to do with the girls. They loved it. It would have been great to know Russian. I only know a little. Enough to find out what your name is. Let you know what my name is and a little more. But activities like this was enjoyed by all of us. A smile goes along way and just giving your attention.
