Funny on Sunday

A little boy wanted $100.00 very badly and prayed for weeks, but nothing happened. Then he decided to write God a letter requesting the $100.00. When the postal authorities received the letter addressed to God, USA. They decided to send it to the President. The President was so amused that he instructed his secretary to send the little boy a $5.00 bill. He thought this would appear to be a lot of money to a little boy. The little boy was delighted with the $5.00 bill and sat down to write a thank-you note to God, which read: Dear God, Thank you very much for sending the money. However, I noticed that for some reason you sent it through Washington, D.C. and those son of a guns took $95.00 in taxes.

It is that time of year. Let's take a trip and rake some autumn leaves.
Atticus loves to rake leaves.

He is yelling out " I think it is big enough Sam"

Dive in! Our cat Max got into the action too.
Thank you for coming along with me on this trip - raking leaves and jumping in!

Have a great weekend!

Something to ponder

Things I hear

I do not mean to scare you with this photo...please continue to read.

Things I hear...
We visited our local pumpkin patch this past week. Our local pumpkin patch does a wonderful job of doing field trips. They have a short pollination lesson. A time for the kids to share stories about gardening and what they like about fall.
Remember the question is "What do you like about fall?" Many answered apple pie, caramel apples and apple crisp. Carving pumpkins, harvesting the garden and playing in the autumn leaves. When it came to this one little girl, she might have been four years old, she stated "Snowdrifts! I like snowdrifts!"
If you are interested in visiting our local pumpkin patch check it out Mommsen's Farm Market

Take Me Out to the Ballgame

On the Road Friday
Today we will be heading out to a baseball game. So get your popcorn, crackerjacks and peanuts ready.

We went to two Eau Claire Express games this summer. Lots of fun watching these young men try for the big league! Head over to the Eau Claire Express for more information.

We found it fun that you can be a host family to a young player. If you love baseball, like we do, this would be so much fun. You provide a home and bed for a player during the season. Your family receives free tickets for the season. Your family is able to attend special events. You have the opportunity to make a positive impact on the future of a young man. You might be getting to know a future Major League Baseball player!

I love how ball fields look at night.

Guess what? Baseball is still in full swing! We love to listen to games. We only have a few t.v channels, and none of them air baseball. We love to listen! I think that is more fun.
The Milwaukee Brewers are still playing and are fighting to stay in for a chance for the World Series!

Have a great Friday! Thanks for coming along on the road with me today!

Birdhouses

I had the following birdhouses for a year. Waiting to collect enough soda/beer tops to decorate with.

We pick up soda or beer tops on our walks, adventures to parks or sometimes we have a good ol' root beer that has a top to pop off.

Sam and Atticus enjoyed doing this craft together.
Our birdhouse is hanging up ... For Rent!

The Best Chocolate Bar in the World

Oh my! If you like dark chocolate, you will love this candy bar. I was suppose to wait and try this with my family, my husband and two boys.
I was busy canning carrots. This candy bar was looking at me! I was looking at it!
My youngest son was home with me. My husband and older son were away. I asked my youngest "Atticus, should we try the Marzipan Chocolate bar?" "No Mom, we are suppose to wait for Dad and Sam" he replied.
Yes, that is right! I say this to myself as I continue to can carrots.
Finally, I decided I could try just one small part of the bar. I am working so hard canning carrots.
I do eat one small square and then just one more to confirm that it is the best dark chocolate bar I have ever eaten in my life!
Jeremy and Sam come home. They share all the fun news they have. Then I share mine. "While I was busy canning carrots, that new candy bar we got, well it was calling me to eat some of it"

How about you, what is your favorite candy?

Parenting

Parenting
By Autumn Bednarczyk

Parenting is incredibly hard
But well worth it when your child gives you a hand made card...

Toddlers run back and forth, like a hurricane with might force. Extremely frustrating it is true
But well worth it when they say,
"I Love You..."

So mothers and fathers I tell you, cherish every moment...

God is unbelievably proud of you
For raising your children the way He would want you to!

Here comes Autumn

Here comes Autumn
A whiff of woodsmoke on the wind, the first chill in the air, the woods just edged in gold and without looking at the calendar we know we've turned the page and it is September.
Time to put the "Sweet" in Home Sweet Home.

Blueberry Picking

So what do you think of our nice pail of blueberries?
It was my idea. During Father's Day weekend I found a beautiful blueberry patch not far my parents farm. During the 4th of July weekend I planned to take the boys berry picking.
Wild Blueberry Pancakes...I was trying to convince them of all the fun by talking to their stomachs.

We get to the patch. It is hot! We had spent the day rafting down the river to stay cool. I now pulled the boys from the water to go berry picking. "Remember, wild blueberry pancakes."

We start to look at my patch and notice tramped down grass. "Mom, I think someone else or something else beat you to the patch!" "Well, lets just start picking what is left, you never know, they may have forgotten a bush."

The sun is beating down on us. Yes, it is hot. I am hot. The boys are really hot. "Mom, I think we are done."
"No, we just got started." I say.

We head over to another part of the patch. "Ouch!" I look down and ants are climbing my leg and biting me.
"Mom! We are getting attacked by ants! We are leaving you. Grandma will make us just good old regular blueberry pancakes."

I stay! Determined to get a nice pile of Wild Blueberries.

Soon I hear "HONK, HONK!"
Now our boys are very patient. We are blessed with this. But they had it!
"WE ARE GETTING EATEN ALIVE BY DEERFLIES MOM! AND SAM HAS A WOODTICK STUCK!! COME ON, MOM!"

So, I leave my patch. Find the boys hotter then hot. I pull the tick off Sam and we head back to Grandma and Grandpa's. They jump in the river to get cool. Then go tell Grandma, what mom made them do for a few Wild Blueberries.

We did have Wild Blueberry pancakes the next morning. Of course, the boys had a story to share. How they fought deerflies, biting ants and woodticks for wild blueberries.

Paralympic Greats

Paralympic Greats
Yes, I know the Olympics are over, but I wanted to share a few stories the boys and I read this summer.

Trischa Zorn
Blind from birth, this swimmer from the United States competed in her first Paralympic Games in 1980 and her last in 2004.
Over that span, she earned 55 total Paralympic medals, 41 of which were gold. Following the 2000 Games, she was the world record holder in eight swimming categories.

Oscar Pistorius
A double amputee runner from South Africa, Pistorius is known as "the fasted man on no legs." Pistorius was born missing bones in his lower legs; and before he turned one, both legs were amputated below the knees. Through the use of artificial lower legs, Pistorius grew to be an incredible athlete who excelled at rugby, tennis and water polo. He actually didn't begin training as a runner until January of 2004, but he qualified for the Paralympic Games in September of that year! He took the 2004 Games by storm, breaking the world record in the 200-meter run even though he was competing against athletes who had only one artificial leg. In 2008, Pistorius tried to qualify for the able-bodied Olympic Games, but was just seven-tenths of a second too slow to meet the requirement. Instead, he went on to win three gold medals at the 2008 Paralympic Games.

High Sea's

Summer Fun
The boys started a new game this summer....High Sea's!
It started with waves.

It was called High Sea's!

All you can hear is laughing!

A little rest.

Then I hear "Mom, we changed the name of this game. We call it Sumo wrestling!"

"Hey Mom, do you think this could be an Olympic event?"
Summer fun! We had a blessed summer. I hope you did too.
