Putting the Garden to Bed and Planting for Spring

We officially have put the garden to bed.
Cleaned the flower beds.
Cut the Raspberry bushes back and put lots of mulch on them for winter.
Tilled the vegetable garden and put compost into the soil.

And we dream of spring!
"In the spring; at the end of the day, you should smell like dirt."
Margaret Atwood

 We planted garlic.
Thank you to Our Neck of the Woods  Tammy shared 5 easy steps to planting garlic.
I also asked Judy of Cranberry Morning  to help me out, because she lives in Northwest Wisconsin and knows about the wild weather we have to endure.
Both did a great job explaining how to go about planting garlic.
I always wanted to try it.
Here it goes...I will tell you more about it this spring.

 Cutting back the hostas.

"Tis merry, merry in the spring, And merry in the summer time, And merry when the great winds sing through autumns woodlands brown~And in the winter, wild, and cold. Tis merry, merry too.
William Howitt

 Planting daffodil bulbs.

 And more daffodil bulbs.

And more daffodil bulbs. Did I ever tell you daffodils are my favorite flower?

Dreaming of Spring

There are only two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as if everything is.

How about you?
Do you put your garden to bed?
Did you plant any bulbs for spring?
How about garlic? Have you tried to grow garlic?

  Happy Wednesday!

  1. I'm glad you planted garlic! Can't wait to see how it grows for you. Thanks for sharing my link as well!

We have been putting our garden to bed lately and it has made me a little sad. Been cutting back the hostas and monkey grass lately and it just looks so bare right now! But to everything there is a season :)

  2. I so wanted to accomplish more this fall, but I just wasn't able to. Hopefully, my allergies will be better under control next fall and I can do all the things I want too! Hope you will share your beautiful blooming daffodils in the spring for us all to enjoy :)

  3. We do not put the garden to bed...although I have tried planting bulbs in the fall with little success. Please let me know how that goes! Our fall gets so crazy the garden rarely gets any attention after the produce is out and the ground is tilled. Looks like a job well done.

  4. All my plants are chopped down (sad). I don't plant bulbs in the fall, and I'm always sad about not getting tulips, etc. come spring. Some year I'll get it together. I haven't formally planted garlic, but I have garlic chives. Not the same, but still very rewarding.

  5. I am impressed. I enjoy the yard to look nice and have flowers come Spring. I just don't like doing any of the work :). But I'm anxious to hear how your garlic grows.
