Until Next Spring

Until Next Spring...saying goodbye to the vegetable garden.

This Spring I took on three garden plots! I was blessed with a wonderful mentor and friend, Marv, who at the young age of 86, taught me many tips about gardening.
One evening, I got the idea of trying to sell some of my extra produce and flowers.
With the help of my sweetheart and boys, we set up a produce stand.
We had so much fun with our Fresh Flower and Produce Stand. The boys enjoyed helping me set up the stand each day. Atticus liked finding the perfect rocks to set on our table.

"Just living is not enough." said the butterfly
"One must have sunshine, freedom and a little flower."
Hans Christian Anderson
The best part of having the produce stand was receiving a bag a jars and this note...

Thank you so much for providing fresh cut flowers. It is always the highlight of my day to see your sign up on the road.
Here are some of your jars back and a few extra.
 Teddy Bear Sunflowers
 Our taller than Dad sunflowers!
 Colorful zinnias
 Marv's onions
Lots and lots of Teddy Bear Sunflowers
And now we wait until next Spring!
I am already planning my garden for next Spring. And guess what? I just might have four garden plots. I am dreaming up an Autumn Produce Stand, with gourds, pumpkins, Indian corn and strawflowers.
(Pssst...do not tell the boys I am thinking of a fourth garden plot!
They might decide to spend the summer at grandmas.)
If you look the right way, you can see the whole world is a garden.

  1. I like that your kids joined in the fun family project to bring a little extra cash and learned the lesson of keeping customers happy.
    Great job.

  3. What a great idea. I never see a sign for fresh flowers or I would be there a lot. Good lesson for the kids, I agree.

  5. All sorts of sunflowers!!! I love them!!
With a garden that size, I'm assuming that you had to can most of it!! It's great for the kids to know where their food comes from and to take part in growing it!! You're very smart!

  6. This might be my favorite post of yours so far. I love that you and the family enjoy so many projects together. The produce/flower stand is the cutest idea and how sweet to receive a thank you and some "vases." Happy planning for next year!

  7. Teddy Bear Sunflowers? I have not seen or heard of these before! They look fuzzy? Like a Teddy Bear? I do love how you had the stand, and can only imagine how your friends and neighbors were able to enjoy it! I hope you continue it. If we weren't so isolated, I would love to have a stand!

  10. Carla, you have done yourself proud! I am reminded of Laura Ingalls homestead...& Gladys Tabor's home life. Your produce stand is a pretty picture...and I love your Teddy bear sunflowers. We once had a friend up in years who blessed our life with her knowledge and friendship also. How special they are. My blood pressure problems this summer have robbed me of energy and strength. My flower beds have been sadly neglected for now. We did start out well though...lol. Hoping you have a very, very nice day, Maggie Ann =)
