On The Road Friday ~ Bushel and a Peck ~ Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin

Welcome to Friday!
Today we will take a trip to Bushel and a Peck, located in Chippewa Falls, Wisconsin.

 Bushel and a Peck
We picked our own apples.
The apples are just huge! We enjoyed our day out in the orchard.

Situated on a scenic ridge separating the
Chippewa River Valley and the Eau Claire River Valley, our orchard was planted over a century ago and now includes over 5,000 trees
producing over 30 varieties of apples.

An apple a day keeps the doctor away!

I love the gazebo, it is surrounded by apples! It is really neat how they have apple trees growing around the gazebo. Very creative and I am sure a lot of work.

If you look at the websites photo gallery, a couple got married in the gazebo.

Bushel and a Peck are the home of over 5,000 apple trees!

Picking apples is a tradition of our family. We like to take a day and pick apples.
At the request of my boys, I made three pans of apple crisp.
My sweetheart makes the best caramel, so we enjoyed some of the apples fresh and dipped them in caramel. We also ate some to keep the doctor away.

" Mom, I think we can get a few more in here"

How about you? Do you visit an orchard for your apples or just for the fun of the season?
What is your favorite thing to do with apples?

I am planning to get a few more apples and make some applesauce or apple preserves.

Enjoy the weekend!

  2. Carla, that looks like fun! We used to go to an apple orchard by Menomonie, but then our Macintosh started bearing and we haven't gone since. Have you tried making apple crisp ice cream?

  3. I had the same tradition with my son! Yes it was so much fun......I have made homemade applesauce in the crockpot, pies, crisps, crostada and caramel apples which is one of my favorites.

Have a lovely weekend. Love the name of the orchard too!

  4. I love picking apples and dehydrate them for the winter. I store them in glass jars so they stay nice and crisp and we eat them like candy. So good. I won't have time to pick this year but hopefully next year.

  5. Oh you are going to have to share that recipe for the caramel...drooling over here. What fun to go and pick your own apples.

We have lots of orchards around here, the Okanagan is the big producer in this part of the world. But the one just up the road is our favorite. It's been in the family for generations...

  6. Fresh apples...nothing taste better! Some applesauce would be good to cook too and you can freeze it! Have fun! We don't have apple orchards here but we have orange groves. Sweet hugs, Diane

  8. I miss the apple orchard we had nearby. It is now a subdivision - so sad. I loved the smell when you walked in the store from all the apples and the apple cider they made. I like to make a baked applesauce it makes the house smell good.

  9. I have to admit, that I have never picked apples - I have bought and eaten freshly picked ones from roadside stalls, but never picked my own.

  10. Carla you have inspired me to go to an apple orchid this year for the fun of it !
We have one very old apple tree on our farm that gives a small yield~
mostly dropping apples on the ground before they are ripe ~ nothing goes to waste though as the chickens and the ponies love the dropped offerings !

  12. Those apples look perfect! Our trees are loaded but oh so imperfect and a lot of work getting them peeled down for applesauce. That looks like a wonderful place to pick your apples. =) And the apple crisp....yum!

  13. Yes we love apple orchards and visit the one we have here nearby in Preston often in the fall. Truth to tell though in Chippewa Falls its Leinies Brewery that draws our visits so I can keep track of their "Honey Weisse."...:)

  14. What a great tradition!! My blog post coming up is about my trip last weekend, but I have to tell you that I ended up at an orchard in Minnesota where we were not allowed to pick apples! Isn't that crazy?
