Dandelion

Dandelion's cheery flower
Opens with the sun.
It closes to avoid rain
Or when the day is done.

Dent - De - Lion
In French, its name means "Tooth of Lion" because of its pointed leaves.

When it's finished blooming,
It shuts to make the seeds,
And turns into a ball of fluff
To catch the passing breeze.

  1. Beautiful pictures. I made plenty of wishes with these when I was young. Some of the most heartfelt bouquets are delivered by tiny little fists holding wilted dandelions!

  4. Beautiful images! I love dandelions and usually post them every year. They are so bright and cherry, and dot the yard like little bits of sun. My husband does not feel the same way, and he relished mowing them down. But they defeat him and come right back up! To me, they are not weeds, they are wildflowers! And when they go to seed, they leave a gift, a puff ball for the little kids to blow and make a wish.

  6. I love the seed heads of these plants - pity it means more weeds in my garden.

  7. When I was little I used to mash them up, mix them with water from the hose and give them to my mom...perfume! She was thrilled! ;)

  8. When my kids were little I used to get a lot of pretty dandelion bouquets.
My husband made wine and I have cooked the leaves as greens, very delicious and my grandson has dried up the roots for making some kind of herbal tea I think.

  11. Beautiful! I love dandelions, they remind me of the first sign of spring! I can remember thinking bouquets of them for my mother, I must've been five or six. I love their perfect sunshiny yellow color, weed or not, they are so fun!

  14. Is it me, or is there thousands more of these little yellow plants (or do I daresay, weeds!). I can remember my son sniffing these all the time when he was tiny to the point where he had a little yellow nose :-) I can't wait to tell the time with them at the end of the season! xx
