It is an Adventure Hodgepodge

Hello, welcome to the Hodgepodge!

My son Atticus, learning how to bird hunt with his daddy.
 Happy Father's Day

Joyce asks us the questions.
We answer the questions.

1. June is National Great Outdoors Month. Have you spent any time appreciating the great outdoors this month? If so where, and if not do you have any plans to enjoy the great outdoors before the calendar turns?

Yes, we enjoyed a hike Tuesday, June 16th.  We hiked 6 miles on the Tuscobia State Trail. We enjoyed a lovely day with temperatures in the 70's and no humidity.

Sunday we plan to celebrate Father's Day biking on a local bike trail.

2. What's a current hot button issue for you?

People who think the food they purchase at the grocery store just is made right at the grocery store. I know that may sound strange. Sadly it is true. So many people have no idea what goes into feeding this world.
Lack of water in California is a HUGE issue. This week farmers have been asked to reduce the amount of water they use AGAIN.
Living in the Northland of Wisconsin, I sure do appreciate all the California farmers who are working hard so I can enjoy fresh celery in January!

The water issue has been something California has struggled with for years. I pray as people are educated about where and how our food ends up at the store, we can find ways to help solve some of the farmers struggles.

 3. What's a food or treat that 'disappears like hotcakes' in your house?

 Fruit! My boys love fruit.
My husband will put his name on a few apples in the fruit bowl. If he does not, by the time he  comes home from work, they will be gone. Our boys love fruit, I can not complain about that.

  4. How hot is too hot?

I do not mind heat. I can not stand heat and humidity. 80 degrees in Wisconsin with 85% humidity....HELP!

  5. Do you have an artistic outlook on life? What does that mean to you?

I notice beauty or I will find beauty in something that may not seem beautiful.
So, I think I do.

6. What's one question you'd like to ask your father, or one you wish you could ask your father?

My dad's father passed away in an accident when he was 15 years old. I have always wanted to know more about my dad's dad, my grandpa, but it is not an easy subject to bring up with my dad.

7. Something you learned from your father?

INDEPENDENCE
My husband calls this "You can be so stubborn, why don't you ask me for help?!?"

 8.  Insert your own random thought here.

"Too many people try to fake their way through life. That is why the real ones shine so brightly...."
Rules of the Road

  1. I love Wednesdays on your blog! I would love to ask my father a ton of questions...sadly, I cannot, but if I had the chance to see him once more, I wouldn't ask him anything, I would just say I love you! :)

  2. But Hillary says, 'Fake it til you make it!' You disagree? ;-)) It IS so funny that we were in the same area yesterday. It was a beautiful day in Rice Lake, wasn't it. I'm going to try to talk Mr. C. into going to the Red Cedar trail in Menomonie on Sunday after church. We've not been there in a while and it's beautiful! Thanks for the idea. I love the way you are raising (rearing) your boys. You and your Mister are wonderful examples and parents! I feel for the farmers in California, but I sure hope the solution is not to drain Lake Superior. I hear that has actually been proposed by some - to divert water from our Great Lake. I like the idea of desalinization of water from the Pacific much better. Have a wonderful day, you guys. :-))

  5. I think both my parents taught me independence and I see so many kids these days having no idea how to rely on themselves. Mine will!

  7. I always love these questions and answers. And I like the 'meaning of independence'! lol We aren't hiking this month. I took a photo of our outside temp today.....it was 100 degrees! That's WAY HOT for us at this time of year. We'll be inside all week. Sweet hugs, Diane

  9. Hi Carla, I always enjoy your photos. I hope you all will enjoy your time together for Father's Day. We love fruit too. We plan to visit the farmer's market tomorrow and yes, I will be remembering all that goes into the farmer's getting this delicious food to the stores. My roommate in college lived in south GA and her entire family did/and still does farm for a living. It's a struggle. It was 100 today in GA! xo

  10. I always have to "google" your destinations! Love that your boys love things at are good for them.
Hope that some day, some how, you get to learn about your grandpa!

  11. What an interesting post. And now I know where you live too, sort of. I have wondered about the River and how lovely it would be to live close by one. No such luck here in the desert mountains of very dry California. All that rain did was mess up my road.

  12. I like that Joan Bauer quote. My favorite new quote is: I'd rather be gobbled up by alligator than nibbled to death by ducks! I think that there is a post in it, but I've yet to figure it out :-)

  13. What a COOL name, Atticus!

The photo of the raspberry made me smile. We had them growing wild in our yard when I was a kid.

  14. "...People who think the food they purchase at the grocery store just is made right at the grocery store."

I was shopping at Wal-mart a few years ago and almost bought a sweet little Dora the Explorer sugar cookie wrapped in cellophane in the bakery section. There was a basket of them and they looked like they'd been baked that morning, wrapped gently, and set out for sale. Flipped it over....made in China. I couldn't believe it!

  15. Hi Carla, thanks for visiting and following my blog! You have a wonderful blog and I'll be happy to follow back. I was happy to read about the deer solution. I will be trying that! I hope it is okay to spray on strawberry plants because that is what the deer are nibbling on. Have a nice day!

  16. Always enjoy these Carla! I can't keep fruit around either, and berries se
To disappear at lightening speed! My Dads father passed away when my Dad was 17 - after he asked my Dad to shovel the driveway (he went to friends instead) and his Dad ended up shoveling and had a heart attack. I could t ever ask him about that - but I have always wanted to. We have a lot in common Carla!

  17. 'June is National Great Outdoors Month', I didn't know that !

But it is a great month to get out and about.
It's also a good month to enjoy soft summer fruits ... with double cream (think you may call it heavy cream)

    All the best Jan

  20. Such an outstanding quote you have up there! And such a lovely shot of your son! I am with you on all of the food and water issues. I have been working to educate myself more fully when it comes to growing more food on our little plot as you should always have a back up plan I believe. Great getting to know you more and I am glad we have connected here! Nicole
