June is Dairy Month in Wisconsin ~ Hodgepodge

Welcome to the Hodgepodge

Joyce asks the questions.
We answer the questions.

Joyce will be taking next week off, so be sure to join in the fun this week!

1. What's something you're looking forward to in the month of June?

June is Dairy Month in Wisconsin. I look forward to it, because my parents are diary farmers. I love the fact that I grew up on a farm. I am very aware of what it takes to feed a nation and a world. I am proud my parents have worked so hard to continue to dairy farm. Knowing that the milk from their cows makes delicious, cheese, ice cream, yogurt and so may more great items, makes me smile.

2. In what way have you come full circle?

In answering question number 1, I explained how much I enjoyed growing up on a farm. Currently I live in a small town. I have struggled with this for many years and dreamed of moving to the country. As the years have gone by, I have gotten use to town life. What really helped me recently is having a garden at the Community Gardens. I have 4 garden plots....which my boys says looks like a small field. I guess I am starting to close in on that farming life with my big garden. I am able to plant all the flowers and vegetables I want, and I have a Fresh Flower and Produce Stand right in my front yard. Providing fresh veggies for my small town neighbors.

3. Lonely Planet lists 10 spots in America you should see in 2015 and the reasons why. How many on the list have you seen? Which one on the list would you most like to see?

Queens NY, Western South Dakota, New Orleans, Colorado River Region, North Conway NH, Indianapolis IN, Greenville SC, Oakland CA, Duluth MN, and the Mount Shasta Region CA

Duluth, Minnesota
December, 2012

We love Duluth, Minnesota and visit Duluth every year. This year we visited the last weekend of March. We hope to get back yet this summer. Duluth is full of wonderful places to explore.

We live about 110 miles from Duluth.

We have also visited Western South Dakota.

Out of the rest, the one I would like to visit the most would be the Colorado River Region.

 4. A song that describes your mood right now?

"If You're Happy and You Know It"
"Clap your hands"
Clap
Clap

 5. Strawberry ice cream, strawberry short cake, strawberry pie, or strawberries right off the vine...your favorite?

Fresh Strawberries....yummy!

6. Aesop's birthday is celebrated on June 4th, although there is some disagreement as to whether or not that's accurate, or if he was even a real person. Regardless, the name Aesop is associated to this day with many well known fables. Which of the following best applies to something in your life right now? The Tortoise and the Hare (Slow and Steady wins the race), The Ant and the Grasshopper (Be prepared), The Fox and the Goat (Look before you leap) or The Crow and the Pitcher (Necessity is the mother of invention)?

The Tortoise and the Hare
Slow and Steady wins the race. You can not push planting a garden. You have to take your time and remind yourself slow and steady. We had several days of hard rain and then very cold weather. Seeds and plants need care and patience.

 7. The answer is yes...what's the question?

The question is, Are you happy?
The answer is, Yes!
On May 31st, my husband and I celebrated our 18th Anniversary.
I am happy and blessed.

8. Insert your own random thought here.

There are no gardening mistakes, only experiments.

  1. Hi, I love your photos today! I love that you are able to garden and share your bounty with your neighbors. A blessing for each of you! You should be very proud of your parents. We visited a dairy farm last summer nearby. Very interesting and we enjoyed an ice cream cone! Wishing you a great day.

  2. Carla- GREAT photos and what a FUN post. I am so glad that you are able to garden even in town. That is just wonderful. There is always a bright lining somewhere if we look for it. I was born/raised country but really like the convenience now of living close to town. xo Diana

  3. Minnesota is one state I've never visited. Several people have mentioned today they love Duluth. Do you read Cranberry Mornings blog? She's also a Wisconsonite and posts beautiful pictures of the area. She is #7 on today's list.

  5. I just love fresh strawberries and double cream ... think you call it heavy cream.

I also love raspberries with cream too ... and if I get a mixture of both - well even better!

    All the best Jan

  7. Funny, I somehow glossed over your song choice, but after reading your answer to #7, I thought, "her song choice should be 'If you're happy and you know it'." Scrolled back up and what do I see? LOL

  10. As always, my favorite weekly post! I'm with you - nothing like fresh strawberries! I've visited Colorado, my parents used to live in Indianapolis, I spent New Years Eve 1994 in Queens, have been to South Dakota and we are about an hour from North Conway so I'd pick...one of the two spots in CA - I've never been!

  14. How lucky that you grew up on a farm. Love the cow pictures.
Great answers too. I'll go with the Tortoise and the Hare. I'm slow and steady but i go till I reach my goal.

  15. In the thumbnail on my side bar, I could see you were sitting on a cow....I couldn't wait to pop over and see how that was going! haha! How interesting that you grew up on a dairy farm. I know it's hard for farmers to make a go of it and I admire them so much. I had fun looking at the 10 cities to visit this year. My husband and I met in Greenville, SC. We were there at a church convention and found out we had been going to the same church in NC. It's a small world indeed! Enjoy your evening my friend. Hugs, Diane

  19. Sounds like you have the best of both worlds, the advantages of being in town with the space of the country. And being happy? Can't beat that. :)
