You've Got Mail at The Little Garden That Could

This week we have been very busy working at the gardens. Each day it is always fun to check for mail. Yippee, our flag was up, You've Got Mail at The Little Garden That Could.

We received a dinner reservation.
We received a thank you.
And we received....we will get to that.

In case you missed my post about the The Little Garden That Could mailbox, Click here

Today we received the following note in the mailbox
There's a wood chuck eating up your garden!!
It goes under the rock pallets by the water tanks -
spotted one more!!

GULP! Any ideas? Anyone want a woodchuck for a pet?

Have a great weekend!

  1. Catching a groundhog (woodchucK) is as easy as catching squirrels. Set a trap with carrots or other veggies on the little platform and as soon as they go in and walk on the little platform the door closes and the little culprit is rapped. You can release him far away. We release our squirrels at least 5 miles away.
A great idea having a mailbox in the community garden but not such good news having a letter telling you that you have a woodchuck eating your veggies. Good luck catching him/her... You can see some videos on Youtube on catching woodchuck / groundhogs.
    Have a great weekend.
    Hugs,
    JB

  4. My son has them living under his deck. They are so destructive....but now she has babies that come right up to the back door of their house and he doesn't have the heart to trap her. He will eventually-when the babies are grown and gone. Good luck!!!! xo Diana

  5. Oh my! I'm sure there are lots of critters that would like to munch on a tasty garden. Hope there's enough to go around...and you still have a bountiful harvest. Enjoy your weekend! Hugs, Diane

  6. Oh but a woodchuck, how cute. He deserves a bit of salad and greens. Maybe if you made him a bit of dinner and put it out he won't eat our garden.

  8. I think it is so awesome about mail in your little garden mailbox! Of course, knowing that there is woodchuck eating up your garden is not great news, but at least you have found out and can't start finding ways to protect that gorgeous garden!

  10. Sorry to hear about your furry friend. I have used live traps with success. Groundhogs are attracted to herbaceous green plants, sweet fruits and tasty vegetable. Try just have to be more tantalizing and tempting than the luscious treasures in your garden.

  11. Yikes! I know my sister-in-law had a whole family of woodchucks move in last year and her garden has never been the same. I know she borrowed her fair share of have a heart traps but couldn't bear to move a whole family of hungry babies. this year she's opting for the farmers market. Let me know what you guys figure out! Love the mailbox to keep everyone in the know!

  12. A live trap and removal to a distant woods worked for me. Cute as they are a lot of damage can be done with burrowing under garages ....:)

  13. So much fun!

Well, except for your garden intruder. Have no idea how to deal with that visitor. I hope he isn't doing too much damage!

  14. Okay, Carla, did you drop off that critter at the end of our driveway? LOL Because on Saturday I got a few photos of a woodchuck (or maybe a groundhog) who mysteriously suddenly appeared on our driveway. He looked like he might have been stuffed full of your lettuces and cababbages! ;-)

  16. Oh my! I know my parents would do a live trap and then move the critter to the woods, far far away.
Lovin' that you have correspondence coming through your mail box!
