It is an A+ Hodgepodge

It is Wednesday and it is time for the Hodgepodge.

 Joyce asks the questions.
We answer the questions.

2011 Visit from my Aunt Sally to the boys school at the time.
She works with Kingdom Dog Ministries

The kids gave Glory the dog an A+!

1. Way back when (the Hodgepodge bicentennial to be precise) several of you submitted questions as part of a giveaway I was hosting. I went back to that list for inspiration today and found a question  submitted by Marla, who blogs over at Marla's Musings. Thanks Marla!
She asks-At what age did you feel like a 'grown-up'? What keeps you young now?

I felt like a grown up at age 21. I was living in my own little house. I was working  in Accounts Payable for a great company in my hometown. I just met Jeremy, my husband today. I was on my own and making my way. I was blessed to live only 10 miles from my parents and they gave me a lot of support.

What keeps me young now?  My boys!

2. When did you last buy a vehicle? Was this by design or because you had no other option? Was the car/truck purchased for your own personal use or was it bought for someone else to drive? On a scale of 1-10 (with 10 being delightful and 1 being 'pass the Excedrin') how would you rate the experience?

My husband and I hate vehicle shopping. When we purchased our current truck, it was a NEGATIVE experience. Looking back, we are like, "why did we not just walk out?"
The saying goes" You live and learn!"  Still!

 3. Corn bread, corn chips, corn pudding, corn on the cob, cornflakes, corn chowder-your favorite of the corn-y foods listed? What needs to be served alongside your selection?

I love fresh sweet corn. While growing up my parents had a big garden full of sweet corn. My sister and I could not wait for the first meal of sweet corn.
Pass the butter please!

4. What's something in your life that regularly requires you to 'put your thinking cap on'?

I am learning German with my boys.

 5. Share a favorite movie set in a school or classroom, or whose theme relates to school days in some way.

The Blind Side

 6. Reading, writing, and 'rithmatic' are commonly referred to as the three R's. What are the three R's in your life right now?

 Raising two teen age boys.
Reaping our produce in our garden.
Remembering Sam's baby days. I am going to start a T-Shirt quilt for my son, Sam who will be 16 in 2016. I have saved his T-Shirts from day one.

 7. What's something you've learned or tried recently you can say was as 'easy as ABC'?

I made Dill Pickles for the first time. I thought it would be hard, not at all, ' easy as ABC.'

 8. Insert your own random thought here.

  1. I love the T shirt quilt, Carla. Wow, that's thinking ahead! Good for you for making dill pickles! Our daughter puts an oak leaf in each jar. Sounds like something Druids would do, doesn't it. Well, I mean if they were canning pickles... Anyway, it's supposed to make them crunchy. We'll see how that works out. I thought of you while canning peaches... Made me remember your delicious peach ice cream!!

  2. Aww these are always so fun to read. I love the t-shirt quilt idea. I've saved some clothes from each of my girls and hoping they'll make it into a quilt one day.

  4. The only lines in German I know: "Why didn't you come before the stairs burned?" and "Do you have a light?" Not too useful since I don't smoke and haven't yet faced a burning staircase!

I'm sure your study will be more fruitful! Have a great week!

  5. I thought I felt like a grown up that first week away at college, turns out that was winter camp! I really felt like a grown up the day we bought our first house. I love your quilt idea, how sweet! 16 is a big number, everything starts to change.

  6. Good answers! I tried to learn German a few years ago via tapes since my mother's family were German Americans but I waited too late for this old brain to do it. Keep at it!

  7. I'm trying to refresh my French and my sister in law is doing the same. We have agreed to only text one another in French. It's hard : ) Good luck with your German. I think that's a tough language. My sister in law is fluent.

  9. That's so fun that you're learning German with the boys! I took German in high school. It's my favorite "other" language. :)

  10. That is so special that you are making a quilt for your son out of all his t- shirts. And you're learning German, fantastic! I've always wanted to learn another language. Good luck.

  11. You know I love these posts! I adore that quote - it really makes you think! I agree with the sweet corn, nothing like it! How can a bite of Summers sweetest lead to so many wonderful memories? Love the idea of the tshirt quilt, I've kept special outfits from my girls too (figuring they'll be put to use someday!) Finally....German?! Pretty incredible!

  12. German?! That is fabulous! I've hard that it is one of the most difficult languages to learn, besides English! Congrats on doing that!!

  13. You can't have too many languages. I love sweet corn on the cob with salt and butter please.

  17. A t-shirt quilt? How interesting. I wonder how you make that? I've got a denim quilt and a corduroy one started for my daughter using her first clothes and the blocks are small as her clothing is still small. (She is 3 now) I liked your quote - how very very true.
