Traveling Down Memory Lane Hodgepodge

It is Wednesday and it is time for the Hodgepodge.

Joyce asks the questions.
We answer the questions.

 1. October 21, 2015 is Back to the Future Day. Did you see the movie? The sequels? In the second film, Doc takes Marty into the future to prevent Marty's future son from making a mistake. They leave 1985 and land on a 'skyway' on October 21st, 2015. So tell us, what were you doing in the fall of 1985?

I do not remember the movie, Back to the Future. I think I watched it, but I do not remember it.
I was heading off to elementary school in the fall of 1985, I would have been 11 years old.

 2.  If time travel were possible, would you want to go to the future? The past?

I would want to go to the past. I enjoy history and I would like to go back and meet many of the people I admire in our history.
When my boys were younger we would read Mary Pope Osborne, Magic Tree House. Back in time we would go with Jack and Annie.

3. We're not flying cars, but some of the technology imagined in the 80's film has indeed come to pass in real life 2015-flat screen TVs on the wall, tablets, fingerprint recognition, video conferencing, online banking, 3-D movies, motion controlled video games, drone cameras, and smart glasses (Google glass).  Do you worry technology is growing at a rate so fast we'll soon be unable to keep up with it's demands? Do you think the Internet does more harm than good?

I enjoy a lot of what technology gives us. I also can get tired of it. As a mom of young men, the world of the Internet gives me some shivers. I pray for our society to fight the junk that is on line.

Information is at our fingertips, I do like that.
I enjoy my blog and have so many fun blog buddies. It has been so fun to meet so many of them in person.

 4. Your favorite dish prepared in a slow-cooker? Your favorite fast food?

My favorite dish in the slow - cooker - Roast Beef

My favorite fast food - I like Culver's fast food.
Do you have a Culver's in your neck of the woods?

 5. No time like the present, down time, face time, pressed for time, in the nick of time, make time, mark time, or just in time...which timely saying most relates to your life right now?

Make Time
My boys are growing up. My first born is learning how to drive. He is planning on getting a part time job. He has goals to buy a car and is thinking about what he plans to do after he graduates from High School.
Making time, to spend as much family time as we can.

 6. Tell us about a place you went as a child or younger person that's no longer there or is now something else. How does that make you feel?

My grandparents home. It was so much fun to bike to my grandparents home or ski in the woods and come around the bend. The property was sold a long time ago and it is no longer my grandparents home.
It makes me sad I can not take my boys to visit.
I do stop along side the road and tell them stories when we travel back to my hometown.

 7. Describe your comfort zone.

I like to be with people that love me. I enjoy smaller crowds of people.

 8. Insert your own random thought here.

My sister sent this to me this week ~

If you woke up this morning, it is time to celebrate!

  4. I watched the first and second movie...and played Hungry Hungry Hippos with nieces, nephews and my own kids and in 1985 I was a junior in HS and having a ball! Love your sister's sentiment. Very true and often overlooked.

  5. We don't have a Culvers here, so I've never been to one. I wonder if it's more of a western half of the US thing? I've never seen one in all my travels up and down the East Coast. Several posts today kind of made me wish I'd mentioned my grandparents farm in CO. Such a beautiful piece of property, now developed.

  6. You were 11 years old....oh my gosh! I do get tired of some of the technology because it draws me in and I waste a lot of time here. I've become lazy, I should be cleaning out drawers, cabinets and closets!!! My children are adults, I can understand why the Internet would give you shivers with young boys around. Sorry about your grandparents home, I know exactly what you mean about not being able to show it to your boys.

  7. I did a roast in the crock pot this week and tonight I made soup with what was left! It was SO good! You need to get those boys together and watch Back to the Future with them. You would all enjoy it! Hugs!

  8. Carla, I love these posts you do. Love pot roast in the slow cooker, too. yum!!!

It is hard to think we can never go back to our grandparent's home if they were a big part of our life. I have not seen my grandmother's home in 40 years...and I loved her sweet little house with the big front porch..and the rain barrel she kept by the side of the house. xo Diana

  9. Gotta love Hungry Hungry Hippo's!!!! I am with you on wanting to go back into the past. I think history and living in a different time when things were so much simpler would be great. Happy Thursday. Have a great rest of the week.

  10. Carla, you're just a pup! In 1985 I was celebrating 17 years of marriage. LOL. I love you, girl!

  11. Love that quote! Always enjoy these posts and the sweet way you write about the love of your boys and your family. It really comes through. I can see why when seeing those pictures of their amazing smiles! We don't have Culvers and I can't remember the last time I had Roast Beef but I do like it when the Grinch talks about ROAST BEAST ;) My hubby's all time favorite movie is Back to the Future so we've been celebrating this day...for a while now. Don't get me started on his plans for Star Wars!

  12. I would love to time travel and would also go to the past. I'm a bit torn. I want to visit my heroine, Jane Austen, but at the same time I don't want to part with indoor plumbing.

  14. I agree with you on visiting the past... that would be so neat!
I can only imagine the shivers the internet gives you. So much good and bad out here.
LOVE Culvers! I just learned this week that you can get take out chicken from them! That was an exciting discovery :)

  15. Yes, the past! Except I'd keep air-conditioning and good doctors.

How I wish I could once again be in my grandmothers' houses and write down some of their wisdom that went in one ear and out the other.

  16. You are right about the Internet; it can be a scary place. But it is also marvellous. Not sure I'd want to live in the past - though I'd certainly like to take a peek at bits of it - don't think I'd like the discomfort!
