Happy December it is the Hodgepodge

Happy December
My favorite month of the year!
December is my birthday month! Christmas! And the start of Winter.
Now before you toss a snowball at me for that last comment, let us start the Hodgepodge.

Join Joyce and the rest of us for all the fun!

 1. Did you watch The Charlie Brown Christmas special Monday night? Who's your favorite Peanuts character and why?
"Most psychiatrists agree that sitting in a pumpkin patch is excellent therapy for a troubled mind."~Linus

Would you agree?

Yes, we did watch The Charlie Brown Christmas special.
My favorite Peanuts character is Linus. He makes me smile. My boys have blankets...at age 15 and 13 they still have blankets. I do wonder, will we be making  sport coats out of them?

I will agree with Linus. I am a gardener, and I always seem to find peace when I am gardening.

2. Describe a sound from your childhood. What does this sound bring to mind?

Old Time Country Music. My parents played cards with my grandparents every Sunday afternoon and they would listen to the Country Count Down. My sister and I would play with all the fun toys our grandma had for us.

3. You've won a trip to a winter wonderland...would that excite you? Which one of the following would you most want to experience (or which one would you dislike the least)-see the Aurora Borealis in Norway, stay in Sweden's Ice Hotel, go dogsledding in Lapland Finland, take a winter wildlife safari in Yellowstone or celebrate Winter Carnival in Quebec?

The Winter Carnival in Quebec would be my first choice. Yes, winning a winter wonderland trip would be so much fun for me. Winter is my favorite season! I love to xc ski! I am still waiting on some more snow to head out for the 2015/2016 season.
 4. Who or what keeps you humble?
Proverbs is my favorite book of the Bible. The book of Proverbs helps me stay humble.

5. What part of preparing for Christmas do you like the most? Explain.
I love decorating! I enjoy putting up our Christmas tree and looking at all our ornaments. Many of our ornaments are homemade or given to us by loved ones. They all have special stories or memories attached to them.

6. Gingerbread-yay or nay? Is making a gingerbread house part of your family holiday tradition?
Nay-no we never have gotten into making gingerbread homes. My husbands mom use to make lovely ones.

7. What's one thing you want to start, do, or complete before the calendar rolls into a new year?
We had four trees die this summer. We have one more to cut down. I would love to see this project out of the way!

8.  Insert your own random thought here.

My boys are getting so excited for the Star Wars movie!
How about your family?

  2. I love reading your answers. I love decorating for Christmas too but this year, I'm not getting excited yet. I always decorate with the same decorations year after year. I'm still feeling under the weather.

    Hugs,
    JB

    1. Happy December! It is so much fun to unwrap a Christmas ornament, and reminisce about its origin. I've never made a gingerbread house, but I certainly love gingerbread men! Yes, there's lot of excitement about the movie. Hope you all enjoy!

  3. Happy early Birthday!! I usually enjoy putting up decorations (hate taking them down) but just not feeling the spirit right now. I am not a snow skier (never been) but I sure would love to have some snow! I just don't want to take a snow day at school because I want more days off in the spring! Stopping by from the HP!

  4. My mom used to make a whistle/ hollering noise to call us home for dinner. I can still hear it in my head! When she made that sound, and we could hear it for blocks, we would come running home. Sweet memories. Happy early Birthday! :)

  5. My daughter just played Linus in her school's musical! He's become a favorite of mine too! A few of us are excited about the Star Wars movie but not so much me!

  6. Maybe you could turn the blankets into pillows? My hubs wants to see the Star Wars movie. I haven't kept up, but loved the first few. I might need a refresher before we see this one. Happy December!

  7. Carla, I love that many of your ornaments are homemade or given to you. I have a few ornaments that the kids made when they were little that I treasure. This picture of the manger is so very pretty. I admired that right away.

    Enjoy the Christmas season, Carla!

  9. Hi Carla. I love the winter and snow too. I know some people get mad at me when I get excited and hope for snow but it is so beautiful. There is nothing like it! Happy Birthday Month to you :)

  11. Love the December theme! Love that last photo - my hubby is OBSESSED! We have 12-17 on the calendar, 7:15pm and he's seeing it solo for the first time (no joke!) we will go over Christmas break. I love Linus too and the decorations are so special - I'm definitely not one of those silver/gold ball ornament people - our ornaments all have meaning and the girls pick a special one every year.

  13. Happy birthday, a happy December, and a happy winter... I like winter, because it is the coldest time of the year here! Though I think the nights have been colder than usual, but that's good for my peach tree. I don't have to turn on the heat at night, only in the morning for about an hour. :) My home must be well insulated, because it only goes into the 60s at night even though it has been in the 40s at night. My favorite season is autumn, but the leaves are only changing now. I think LInus... He had a lot of good lines in the comics, and often wisdom... Charlie Brown did too. The other characters always seemed a little more ordinary. xoxo Su

  16. That is a sweet childhood memory. I love my ornaments and after the tree's are done I too love just looking at all of them. Sorry about those trees. I'm looking forward to seeing the new Star War's but we won't be rushing there for the opening, most likely a few weeks later.

  17. Hope you have/had a great birthday. Summer and then autumn are my favourite months. I don't like the cold.

  18. My parents had a big yellow kettle that would whistle when the water was boiling. I loved that whistle. My electric kettle is boringly discreet and just turns off.
    Happy Birthday!!!
