Snow Cave

Chill February brings the day,
when hearts and flowers we give away.
Tasha Tudor

This past week my boys spent some time with Grandma and Grandpa. They built an amazing Snow Cave! My mom used the skid steer to pile a big, big pile of snow up for them. The boys dug and dug and dug. They said they worked on it for about eight hours.
My dad put a light in the cave for the evening hours. It light up like a space ship. I did not get a photo of it at night, my mom did. She did share it with me. It was so cool.

And now for the tour of the snow cave!

I am peeking in to the entrance.

Inside the cave. The boys thought of everything. Several windows, shelving and two side rooms.
This cave was a perfect place to play house war.
The boys explained the game to me they created and this was the base.

It was very warm inside the cave. My dad brought in a few chairs for the boys.

And he brought in a light for the evening hours. The boys said it was so cool!

 A few more windows.

 Landscaping the entrance.

 A window made of ice.

The Snow Cave  from the outside.

Do you have any memories of making snow caves or forts?

  1. Your guys are so cute!!! That is one impressive snow cave, but most impressive of all is that grandma who drives a skid steer to make a snow mountain for them! My grandsons would trade me in any day for a skid steer driving grandma!!! LOL

  2. What fun this must have been for the boys and so wonderful of your mom and dad to help then out with their great cave. It reminds me of my youth but our cave wasn't so elaborate.
Thanks for sharing these cool pictures with us.

  4. What wonderful grandparents. I've never seen anything like this in my life, since I've lived all my life in Southern states. I hear the temperatures are brutal today up your way. Stay warm, My Sweet Friend!

  7. I have shared some fun igloo memories with you before, so I won't bore you again, but man this brought them all back again. Those boys are super creative. I think you may have a couple of engineers or architects on your hands! Wow!

  11. That is FABULOUS! I was just thinking today of when my son build a snow cave, nice, but not as big as yours. The light is a great touch also.

  15. Carla, this is so cool. What fun your boys must have had in the snow cave, and dad too. This brought back special memories for me as well, as we made dirt forts in the fields behind my house when I was growing up. We would stay in there all day, until we were called for dinner. It was a great summer for all the neighborhood kids. These pictures are great, and I love the one with the light.

  16. How fun!! You did bring back memories of my sister and I out playing in our snow fort. I do imagine though, that we were playing house instead of war :) I am so jealous that we never had lights in our forts. Well done, boys... Well done!

  17. That's so neat that they made that at your parents house, and that your parents encouraged them and even helped them out. Grandparents are so special and important.
