Happy Birthday Atticus ~ It is the Hodgepodge

This will be what we will be doing in the next week. I hope! The weather here in Wisconsin has been the usual CrAzY!
Wisconsin has been cold!
23 degrees on Sunday morning. My birdbath water froze!

Next week I will miss the Hodgepodge, I will be planting. And in high hopes our Wisconsin temperatures will begin to warm up.

Here we go for today, May 18th, my son Atticus is 14 today!

Joyce asks the questions.
We answer the questions.

1. Tell us about a time you found yourself 'in the middle of nowhere'. Was this deliberate?

I had to chuckle, the first thing that came to my mind was, I grew up in the middle of nowhere.
In all truth, my husband and I both grew up surrounded by Wisconsin State forest and county land. We had to drive two hours to get to Walmart!

It is funny now, because I live only 6 miles from a Walmart today. My parents still live "in the middle of nowhere" cell phone service is spotty to none!

 2. What's something you're 'in the middle of' today or this week?

Staking out my garden plots.

 3. At what age do you think 'middle age' begins? What does it mean to be 'middle aged'?

I am not really sure. I have never been a person who cares about age. In fact I forget how old I am! I have always been like that. My dear friend Marv will be 87 in July. He still drives to Texas each November and drives back to Wisconsin in March! I hope to be just like Marv. He does not give a hoot about how old he is, he just keeps doing! I love his attitude.

4. Ravioli, stuffed peppers, samosas, deviled eggs, steamed dumplings, pierogis, or a jelly donut...your favorite food (from this list!) with something yummy in the middle. Your favorite not on the list?

 My favorite on the list.
Ravioli
My favorite not on the list.
Stuffed Cabbage

5. Albert Einstein is quoted as saying ''In the middle of difficulty lies opportunity.' Would you agree? Have you found this to be true in your own life? Feel free to elaborate.

For those of you who follow The River, know that I will be selling my fresh cut flowers at a farmer market for the first time. For the past two years I had a stand in my front yard with my flowers and some produce. I plan to continue with that as well this summer.
I have always wanted to sell at a market, this year I decided would be the year.
Sadly, when I called our local markets, they did not want me. They have flower vendors from another city come and did not want me to waste my time.
I was discouraged. I even lost my enthusiasm to go on.
But another opportunity was waiting to show it self.
I will be selling my flowers at the Bruce Community Farmer's Market.

6. What's a song you remember loving from your middle school years? Do you love it still?

Girls Just Want To Have Fun
Cyndi Lauper
Oh my, my friends and I would rock out to this song.
We had so much fun.
Yes, I still love it, it brings back a lot of fun memories.

7. May 18th is National Visit Your Relatives Day. Will you celebrate? Which relative would you visit if time, distance, and expense were not considered.

We do not live close to any relatives. So I will not celebrate.
If I could pick one to visit, time, distance and expense was no worry, I would pick my
Uncle Paul and Aunt Sally who live in Caldwell, Texas.

 8. Insert your own random thought here.

  6. Happy Birthday to your handsome son! Any big plans tonight or this weekend? You know I love your hodgepodge and I had to chuckle because yup, that song brings back memories (some of awful 80s fashion and rubber jelly bracelets) and also I always forget my age!!! PS I grew up eating lots of pierogies and stuffed cabbage being polish with a Grandmother who was VERY polish. I'd still pick something else off that list ;)!

  7. Oh, I LOVE the sign quoting Toad from Frog and Toad. So cute!! and I love the pic of your two handsome fellas. Happy Birthday to Atticus! Funny, I answered the question about middle of nowhere about the same. We LIVE in it. :-) Hope you have a wonderful evening, Carla. I love planting time in the garden. I plan to set out my tomatoes and peppers on the 4th of June when I am pretty sure that we're past frost (but never guaranteed!) xo

  9. Happy Birthday to Atticus! My daughter is 35 today. I hope to be like Marv too....my dad will be 93 in June. I have been thinking about age a lot lately because I'm being bombarded with Medicare stuff in the mail these days. I've never made stuffed cabbage but we eat cabbage all the time.

  13. I'm loving how you love celebrating your son's birthday! Hope it's a fun day!

I'm doing a lot of gardening, at least what my poor back lets me do---about 1 1/2 hours a day. I'm thinking about taking a blog break. Which makes me think of your friend who is elderly and still going strong. I hope I get my back in shape so if Ilve that long I'm able to do what I want!

Good for you with the selling of your flowers and veggies. I love that!!!

  14. The picture of your two sons is wonderful, love that old pickup! I agree with you that age really does not matter... I've seen old people act young, and young people act old... what really matters is how you live! Your friend Marv sounds delightful to know, such a blessing to have such a good friend! Good luck with selling your flowers, sounds like a very exciting venture, and it will be fun to meet people at the farmer's market! Have a blessed day my friend!

  15. I'm a die hard Red Sox fan. However, my favorite National League team is the Cubs. If they ever play the Red Sox in the World Series I'll be really conflicted. Thanks for your visit to my blog page. GO CUBS! GO SOX!
