Keeping Summer Alive ~ It is the Hodgepodge

Keeping Summer in our Hearts

Hello Everyone!
It is Wednesday and it is time for the Hodgepodge!
Joyce asks the questions.
We answer the questions.

1. It's National Waffle Day (August 24th)...what decision are you currently 'waffling over'? (or share one you've recently 'waffled over')
A decision I am currently 'waffling over' is if I will add a path in our front garden. This will require pulling many plants and placing a pathway with bricks or dirt or mulch.
Waffling over this .... mmmmmm

 2. It's the middle of August, but I'm already seeing lots of autumn-related posts. Do you think we rush the seasons? If so, does that bother you? I saw (here) an end of summer bucket list that included-

make s'mores, read a new (or favorite) book in the park, eat something delicious and bad for you at a state fair, be a tourist for the day, have a pot luck picnic, book a last minute summer getaway, relax by or in the pool, take a hike to watch the sunset, have a day on the lake, try a new summer recipe

Which activities on the list might you squeeze in before summer officially comes to a close?

I walked into Hobby Lobby, Monday to purchase some art supplies for our youngest son. I walked into a world of Christmas trees!! Do we rush the seasons? Yes! Does it bother me? Yes!
I am still in the world of gardening, eating fresh tomatoes, cucumbers and eggplant from the garden. Picking flowers and listening to Summer bugs. I think the Christmas Carols can wait until after August!

I will squeeze a few new summer recipes in. I have several I want to make with fresh zucchini, eggplant and tomatoes.

 3. Your favorite summertime 'art' found in nature?

Flowers

 4. Stephen R. Covey is quoted as saying 'We judge ourselves by our intentions, and others by their actions.' Agree or no? Do you define yourself based on your intentions, your actions, or something else?

I agree. I know I have judged people by their actions.
As for me, I have judged myself using both.

5. Are you useful in a crisis? Elaborate.

I am!
I am able to give first aid. I can try to calm a frantic person.
I try to keep everyone thinking positive.

6. What's been your go-to dish this summer? Is it something you'll continue making as the seasons change?

Garden Fresh Salads
I will not be able to make the same salads once our kill frost arrives.
I will be able to open green beans, corn, kale and other goodness that we have froze or canned for Winter eating.

 7. Adult coloring books are a thing now. Have you jumped on the bandwagon? If not is this something you think you might enjoy?

I received an adult color book for my birthday. I have enjoyed the times I have colored in it.

 8.  Insert your own random thought here.

What is your favorite school supply?

We went shopping for school supplies. I am a sucker for cute folders.

Have a great week my friends!

  1. I love cute folders too. My daughter started school supply shopping but I didn't go with her. She's been painting designs on her notebooks. I was in Michael's yesterday and same thing..Christmas! Too soon! I'm sad my morning glories didn't grow this year. I didn't have much gardening luck this summer. I can see you being great in a crisis!

  3. I vote for the path in the garden because they are so pretty!
My favorite school supply would be the never ending search for a perfect pen. I have faith though, I will find it.
Enjoyed your answers, have a good week!

  4. What do you like to do with your eggplant? I've got some from my daughter's inlaws and have made eggplant part and another eggplant pasta style dish but would love to try something else. Those are both kind of heavy for me. I love planners and post its. I wish I could use more than one planner in a year : )

  5. A path in the garden will be lovely. My sil did that and it is so sweet to look at and walk on. But my goodness, you are industrious. Love the sound of all that fresh food and the thought of enjoying your canned goods this winter.

  8. I say "go for it" to the path in the garden, It adds a new texture to the landscape that I find appealing. AS for school supplies...I love colorful markers. I was an art major in college and can't survive without at least two dozen markers in the house! Have a great week!
    Cheers!

  10. You have made me hungry for a salad! I will be anxious to read about your path in the garden plans. Let us know what you decide. We have done a few small projects in our yard, but the heat and humidity are still to severe to do much.

  11. LOVE YOUR FLOWERS - they are really the best art (how could I forget those?) Garden Fresh Salads yum! Oh and I love some of the cute post it notes - they have some adorable ones out there these days! xo

  12. I love cute folders! Hobby Lobby seems to have Christmas things all year round. They told me that they do with Fall, too! But I do understand why craft stores rush the season. People who craft and make things need time. What is this gorgeous flower?

  13. I don't feel like we rush the seasons but I do think we rush the holidays. If I could rush a season it would be summer. This heat is ridiculous. :)

  14. Your photo is stunning! I hope you have a print made of that :)
Christmas trees? Say it isn't so! It's only August!
Do we have the same color of Morning Glories growing?

  16. I am with you Carla and feel they rush the seasons too. I am a summer girl and am loving each and every day. I know fall is around the corner but I will savor each of these last few days of summer. Have a great day.
    Hugs,
    Kris

  17. First of all, I LOVE that introductory photo of you guys and the quotation. That is absolutely perfect! I'm with you on the early Christmas carols. Good grief! I'm voting for the path through your garden. :-) And we're getting wonderful vine-ripened tomatoes here. I just discovered, thanks to Mr. C., that a really fresh ripe tomato is delicious with potato chips. I did not need to know that. :-((

  18. P.S. I love all school supplies, especially a spiral bound art sketch book, 6 x 9. It's my favorite thing. Followed by that would be nice pens.

  19. Interestingly enough I have always enjoyed browsing in stores like Staples, Office Max etc. I like looking at the latest writing implements, notepads, calendars and planners, etc, i.e. school supplies. I don't know why, but I do. I hope that you have a wonderful week!

  20. I've been waffling lately over a few things biz related. I am hoping that once the kids go back to school I can stop waffling and take action! But I am in no rush to send them back....so.... ;)

  21. I have always just loved it when the stores put out the shelves of perfectly arranged school supplies! I don't know what my favorite school supply is, I do like sharpies a lot!

  23. Yes, the stores may rush the seasons with their merchandise, but I get so excited when I see the Fall stuff out, as it's my favorite season. I'm glad you like your adult coloring book, Carla. It's relaxing to color in I think.

That Purple flower puts me in a trance it's so pretty haha.

  24. Personally, I can't wait for the summer trading to finish and then the autumn stock comes into play. I don't like Christmas being thrust on us, after all, there is still Halloween and Guy Fawkes Night (over here) to get through first. Enjoy the last dregs of summer xx
