Happenings

Hello Friends!
I am back! I will have lots to share with you in up coming posts.

If you are a regular reader here at The River, you know my month of May is a busy one.
Prep work for a graduation party, Mother's Day celebrating, a May birthday, end of the school year and the garden season all in the month of May!
And Jeremy and I will celebrate our 21st Anniversary, May 31st. We have decided to celebrate in June.  ~wink~

 Me and my boy!
Sam will graduate May 31st, 2018 from High School.

The perfect stamps for Graduation Announcements.

~ News Flash ~
Sam had been accepted to attend Chippewa Valley Technical College in August of 2018, he is planning to go into Computer Programming.
At the end of March, Sam came to me asking to talk. He had been thinking and praying about something regarding his future.
He decided to join the Wisconsin National Guard. It came as a bit of a surprise to us, at the same time it did not. Our son is very patriotic and has a serving heart. Things switched gears real fast. The Monday after Easter we met with Sam's  recruiter, from that point Sam did his MEPS and his deployment dates were shared.

We are blessed that we will have the summer to spend with Sam. He will deploy for his Basic training early September. He will be heading to Fort Jackson, South Carolina. After he graduates from Basic he will head to Fort Gordon, Georgia for is AIT, he is going into surveillance, communications and computer programming. He will be back home late April 2019!! He will be able to come home for Christmas.
We spoke with Chippewa Valley Technical College, they understood and were very supportive about Sam's decision. He his enrolled for August 2019.

WOW!
Yes, this mom's heartstrings have been playing all kinds of tunes. I am proud, I am anxious, I am excited, I am in awe of my boy. My boy, in all honesty the time went so fast. I have had a few days of melancholy, "hey, we did not get to do all we wanted to do" he can not grow up this fast!

Our graduation party is June 3rd. Everything is in order ..

What a great picture of you and him. You are as cute as can be...and so is he! xo Diana

  6. Oh Carla love the pic with you and your son Sam. He is so handsome. I am so proud that he is wanting to serve his country in this way. It takes a special person to do this kind of career so be proud that you raised such a wonderful and caring guy. In a country where we see so much unrest and violence it is good to see so many wonderful youth wanting to go in this direction and make our world a better place. Does my heart good to know your son is one of those. God bless him.
    xoxo

Lots of MAJOR changes coming and I understand that you must be feeling a wide range of emotions around this. It’s amazing that he’s confident in this decision, he seems very focused, something so rare I think in graduates sometimes. His future is bright! Congratulations my friend! I am very glad to hear he’ll be home for Christmas, that will be a celebration for the for certain. How is his little brother taking it? Thinking of you and sending huge hugs!!!

  11. Well done to Sam for taking the time to make sure he was making the right decision and the courage to go forward on a different path. (We had a similar experience with our son - he was fortunate to be accepted for a place at Oxford University. You can appreciate I'm sure what a wonderful opportunity that is in the UK. But, at the end of his first year which he had passed, he had reached the decision that the Oxford system was not for him. He took time out, went to uni in Nottingham doing a different subject, met his wife and the rest is history.) I think it reflects on your upbringing of your son that he is mature enough to choose his path. Yes it will cause you some anxt but yes you will be proud too. Have a great graduation party :)

  13. Graduations are so exciting. I saw that stamp but didn't really pay attention to its meaning. You must be so proud of your son. He certainly has a lot coming up in his life. I wish him all the best. I'm not quite sure how the National Guard works other then they are called up in emergencies. Will he stay in the states?

  14. Wow! I did not see this coming. I know how very close you are with your boys. The distance will be tough I'm sure, but if he's happy, I know you'll be so happy. Congratulations to him. What a courageous choice. And I just spoke to a friend today whose son is in the military and she said he FaceTimes her every night. xoxo

  15. Oh Carla! I can only imagine the tunes being played in your Mom's heart! Graduation is such a big change, but then to have him leave him too, I know you will miss him so, but you and your husband have truly done an outstanding job in raising such a thoughtful and patriotic young man! So much of you has been poured into him, and it shows, does he ever look like you! Such a cute picture of both of you! Will be praying for you as all of this changes take place, hugs to you sweet friend!

  19. God bless Sam for choosing this path. I think it shows a lot of wisdom and maturity to follow his heart and change directions. And how secure he must feel to know that he can come to you and talk about his plans and receive the encouragement he needs. Good job Mom and Dad! Congratulations to the graduate and prayers for the months ahead. I know God will guide each step he takes. Hugs, Nancy P.S. Great photo of you and Sam!
