It is One, Two, Three Strikes You Are Out!

Hello Everyone.. thank you for the well wishes for my son's injury, my bug bites and the storm damage to our area. Thank you, thank you.

Our little getaway was a trip to the city.
My youngest son is a New York Yankee fan.. DJ LeMahieu his is favorite player.
Yanks vs Twins
A perfect night for baseball!

We enjoyed a fun night of baseball. Home-runs, RBI's, amazing catches and DJ played at first base. We had seats on the first base side. Atticus just loved it!
Oh and it was $1.00 Hot Dog Night!

We had a fun night watching the game.
The next morning we explored this..

What a Week!

 What a week..
The week of 7/15 - 7/19 was one crazy week.
It started with our youngest having an accident at work. He got his finger smashed while moving some boat anchors. We had to take him to ER. He needed a drug and alcohol test because the accident happened at work. Sadly, the clinic was short staffed and very crabby folks working at the clinic. A simple pee in a cup took 2 hours to complete.

!Good News!
He is healing well.
No further action will need to be taken after his 3 weeks of wearing this splint.
The heat and humidity built and built during our week.
By Friday 7/19 the heat and humidity was so bad that it was hard to breath. We went to Chippewa Falls that afternoon to look at an apartment with our oldest son. Getting out of the car in the city with all the buildings and concrete was like walking into a sauna or rain-forest ? I don't really know how to describe it, all I can say was I was melting.
In the mean time the sky was brewing.
A terrible storm tore apart our county.
As I type this up, it is Tuesday 7/23.. the storm hit on 7/19.. people are still out of power. We have many friends and neighbors who have major damage. Trees oh how sad to see so many big beautiful trees all down. We have friends who lost 10 to 12 trees in their yards. They are uprooted making a huge clean up.

!Good News!
The tree above just missed our oldest son's car.
No lives lost during the storm!!!
 Bites!
I ended up with some sort of bug bites. I think they are deer fly. I had an allergic reaction to them. I was in terrible pain and dizzy.
I soaked my leg in baking soda, iced it, and did that again and again.
I also put aloe on the bites. I had 5 bites all together.

!Good News!
I am happy to report I am back to 100%.

 Spilled Coffee Grounds!
My husband spilled coffee grounds. When I say spilled coffee grounds they went every place. In the heat register, under the cupboard doors, I mean everywhere.
What a mess. The shop vac now smells like coffee.

!Good News!
The kitchen got a major cleaning and the heat registers too!
With the big storm a cool front has come in blowing away the humidity. Making for some perfect summer days. And just in time.. I am off on a little getaway.

Be Back Soon!

Midsummer Eve

I was contacted by the Son's of Norway
if I would be willing to make flower crowns for the Midsummer Eve Celebration
held at the Pioneer Village.
I was super excited to participate.  My family joined me. My husband got some fun photos of everyone enjoying the evening.

 Me making flower crowns.

The lady smiling at the camera is Robin, she is the one who contacted me to participate.

 Celebrating

I have shared the advertisement below about the festival.

This year, the Pioneer Village Museum has joined together with the Sons of Norway - Dovre Lodge to bring Midsummer Eve traditions to the Barron County community. Join us to celebrate Scandinavian heritage, culture, and community following the Strawberry Festival and Quilt Show on June 22nd.
As with both ancient and modern traditions, a bonfire will be central to the celebrations (along with the presence of the local fire department!), and the Sons of Norway will be raising a maypole (majstång or midsommarstång). Anyone who wants to attend in traditional clothing is more than welcome to! This is the Pioneer Village's first time hosting this type of event, and we hope to make it special for everyone involved.
Bring your friends and family for an evening of cultural learning and fun!

And a little more about Midsummer Eve..

Midsummer (Norwegian: midtsommer; Swedish: midsommar; Finnish: keskikesä) is a Northern Hemisphere tradition that spread through Northern Europe to the Americas. Though the origins of this celebration date to pre-Christian summer solstice festivals, it survived the Christianization of Europe in the form of the Feast of St. John the Baptist, established in the 4th Century CE to celebrate his birth. (This date was chosen to align with the established birthday of Jesus, December 25th; according to Biblical lore, John the Baptist was born six months before Jesus.)

Scandinavian immigrants to our region brought Midsummer Eve celebrations with them. This is a celebration that has endured up to the present day, both in Scandinavia and in the Scandinavian diaspora worldwide, particularly the United States

A Journey Remembered and Joy List Monday

A Journey Remembered

This past week was my friend Katie's memorial service.
I was honored to create a bouquet for her service from our North Country Master Gardner Group.

Celebrating the Life of  Katie on July 8th, 2019

The tributes to Katie where so well done. Her grandson did a fantastic job and had us all laughing. A very special young man to be brave to do this in honor of his grandma. It was very special.

The message was titled " A True Lady Who Loved to Play in the Dirt"

Katie's sending off song: This Land is Your Land

 A Journey Remembered
As some people journey through life, they leave footprints wherever they go..
footprints of kindness and love, courage and compassion, humor and inspiration, joy and faith.

Even when they're gone, we can still look back and clearly see the trail they left behind. A trail bright with hope that invites us to follow.

Happy Birthday America

May we think of freedom, not as the right to do as we please,
but as the opportunity to do what is right.
