Camping in June

Hello Friends, it is time to get an update from Ernie our rescue dog.

Ernie went on his first camp trip in the month of June.

We enjoyed the shores of Lake Superior.

One week before our camp trip a large storm blew in the area we had our camping reservations.

I will share the photos of the destruction along the shores.

Thankfully we had lovely weather during our camp trip.

Our campsite.

Looking up from inside our tent.

A week before our trip a heavy rain and wind storm caused  a lot of damage.

If you look up, you will see a grill at a picnic site, the grill is just about to collapse off the edge after the washout.

Lake Superior... my favorite.

Completely, and perfectly, and incandescently, happy.

October 20th Snowstorm 2020

 Hello Friends,

It is 2020, the year that just keeps surprising us. Our October was starting out lovely, I had flowers still in bloom, happy bees and slowly getting my garden put to bed. Things were going smooth. I felt confident I would have all my garden work done by November 1st.

Oh, but the wind shifted, we got very cold and it began to snow.

8 inches in total!

And I woke up to a cold 10 degrees this morning!

October Snow

Looking into my greenhouse, snow outside, green inside.
Kale, spinach and lettuce.

Time to get out the snow shovel.

The snow is accumulating.

Jack o Lantern's are hiding.

And my garden is waiting for me to finish putting to bed.

Good New..  the good news is that the weather is slowly warming up for the rest of the week. I will be able to get outside and finish digging gladiola bubs and planting my tulip bulbs.

On the road between the houses of friends grass does not grow.

What a Week!

 What a week..
The week of 7/15 - 7/19 was one crazy week.
It started with our youngest having an accident at work. He got his finger smashed while moving some boat anchors. We had to take him to ER. He needed a drug and alcohol test because the accident happened at work. Sadly, the clinic was short staffed and very crabby folks working at the clinic. A simple pee in a cup took 2 hours to complete.

!Good News!
He is healing well.
No further action will need to be taken after his 3 weeks of wearing this splint.
The heat and humidity built and built during our week.
By Friday 7/19 the heat and humidity was so bad that it was hard to breath. We went to Chippewa Falls that afternoon to look at an apartment with our oldest son. Getting out of the car in the city with all the buildings and concrete was like walking into a sauna or rain-forest ? I don't really know how to describe it, all I can say was I was melting.
In the mean time the sky was brewing.
A terrible storm tore apart our county.
As I type this up, it is Tuesday 7/23.. the storm hit on 7/19.. people are still out of power. We have many friends and neighbors who have major damage. Trees oh how sad to see so many big beautiful trees all down. We have friends who lost 10 to 12 trees in their yards. They are uprooted making a huge clean up.

!Good News!
The tree above just missed our oldest son's car.
No lives lost during the storm!!!
 Bites!
I ended up with some sort of bug bites. I think they are deer fly. I had an allergic reaction to them. I was in terrible pain and dizzy.
I soaked my leg in baking soda, iced it, and did that again and again.
I also put aloe on the bites. I had 5 bites all together.

!Good News!
I am happy to report I am back to 100%.

 Spilled Coffee Grounds!
My husband spilled coffee grounds. When I say spilled coffee grounds they went every place. In the heat register, under the cupboard doors, I mean everywhere.
What a mess. The shop vac now smells like coffee.

!Good News!
The kitchen got a major cleaning and the heat registers too!
With the big storm a cool front has come in blowing away the humidity. Making for some perfect summer days. And just in time.. I am off on a little getaway.

Be Back Soon!

Anniversary of the Barron County May 16th Tornado

Click above to read more about the 2017 Barron County Tornado.

May 16th 2017 will be one we will remember. As an F3 tornado ripped along about 2 miles from our home. Our area was hit with hail. We had hail damage to our roof and gutters. I am happy to report that today, exactly one year ago all of the repairs to our home and insurance claims have been taken care off.

Our area showed care and support for all who lost everything. We have new neighbors who lost everything. They lived in the trailer park that was severely damaged by the tornado. They now live in a lovely home across the street. At first they rented, now they have it has their home.

Of all the stories from May 16th, 2017. The one that I am in awe of is from my  sweet 93 year old that I deliver Meals on Wheels. The path of the tornado was right along my Meals on Wheels route.

I shared her story last summer, I would like to share it again, as we all face challenges each and every day. Her positive attitude makes me smile.

I was back to work the week after the touch down. As I made my deliveries I was in shock. As I drove to my sweet 92 year old, I could not believe it!  A huge pine tree fell on her house and the entire area around her was gone, ripped up, her deck was gone, trees, flowers, garden and even the shoreline down to the lake.
I gave her a hug! I asked her "you are 92 years old, have you ever been in a tornado?"
"No, I have not! This is my first one."
Her son lives across the street from her, she told me he came over and said "Mom, a tornado is on the way. We need to get you down in the basement." She told him, " I am not going in the basement she said, I am going to the bathroom, I will never make it back up from the basement."
She was out of power for four days. She told me, "I stayed right here! I was not about to leave my home."  The interesting thing was that after the tornado, our weather was cold and rainy for the rest of the week. With a tarp on the roof and half the house and no power, it got chilly. She said, "Oh I was fine, I went to bed early and got cozy under the blankets."

My sweet 92 year old, has just lost half of her home, all of her trees and her shoreline. She takes me to the window that over looks the lake. The tornado also touched down across the lake, and took all the trees and tore up the earth. As she looked across the lake, she looked at me and said "Carla, I never knew all those homes where across the lake, it is so pretty at night to see the lights twinkle."

Another positive thinker in the tornado.
The area the tornado hit was full of trees, the homes were built among towering pines. What is so strange is the tornado took the pine trees, garages, out buildings but left many of the homes. I noticed today when I delivered, one of the homes that survived, they planted a vegetable garden. Something they could not do before because of all the shade.
I hope they have a great first vegetable garden season.

This evening there will be an Anniversary of the 2017 Tornado at the Park. Each survivor will receive a cherry tree to plant. My 93 year old plans to share her story and cheer as her neighbors and community worked together as they cleaned up the damage the tornado caused.
She also told me she is excited to plant that cherry tree.

What is Up Doc

What is Up Doc?

Last week was a whirl wind. I was preparing for the Cameron Street Sale and for my parents to come stay with us for the weekend.
On Friday morning I was feeling very good about my To Do List.
 √
 √
Making my check marks .

Then all of a sudden Friday morning a freak thunderstorm came rolling in. A lighting strike hit straight down in our back yard!

The lighting hit our bird feeder, followed the internet cable, blew the internet cable, continued into the house, blowing the T.V. cable, router, our boys alarm clock and the Christmas lights they have in their room.
Talk about crazy, freaky and just plain spooky!!
Thankfully we are all fine. Our home is fine. We have to have a new cable put in this week. Our internet company will take care of that. Of course a new T.V. , router , and so on.

On to Saturday and The Cameron Street Sale.

My mom and dad made it to our house fine on Friday. They also had a storm to wait out before leaving. They arrived on Friday night and we had a fun dinner and got ready for Saturday morning.
My mom and dad setting up my mom's craft booth.

My booth has fresh cut flower's in bunches and jars.
Gourds, broom corn and decorative corn stalks.

It was a great day for us. My mom and I both did very well at the Street Sale.
Thank You to all of you for the support during the week.
And Thank You to my friends who came out on Saturday and supported my mom and I.
