On The Road ~ Brunet State Park

Episode #31 of our Day Date's was to Brunet State Park. We enjoyed a beautiful bottle up summers day. Brunet State Park is one of our favorites.

Ernie enjoyed the hike too.

We enjoyed low humidity, a gentle summer breeze and no bugs. Making a great day to hike in the woods. We saw three fawns and their momma. An Osprey caught a fish along the river and we witnessed it!

I could never in a hundred summers get tired of this.

I seek quiet joys.

We enjoyed our day out. On the way home we stopped in at a farmers market. We picked up some fresh blueberries, a gift for a friend and a big tomato.

Smoke Gets In Your Eyes

Hello Friends,

Our 52 dates continue... our kayaking beach day was our # 29.

It was a good plan. We were going to kayak to the Siskiwit Bay and enjoy the beach.

It was a good plan until the smoke from the Minnesota Boundary Water fires and the Canadian fires began to roll in.

Our kayaking and beach day was cut short.

We planned to try a new place to eat, The Corny Fish Shed. We drove on over to Cornucopia to eat. The meal was very good. Several people were there with the same plans we had as the smoke continued to roll in.

Once again on our adventures we came across some sayings and a duck.

The Duck

LIVE FREE OR DIE

AN OWIE TO ONE IS AN OWIE TO ALL

We enjoyed fish tacos, made with Lake Superior Whitefish.

Guac and Chips.

Praying for all in the firestorm. The evacuations of the those in the Minnesota Boundary Waters of those canoeing and camping, once again show the love and support we have for each other.

Praying for rain.

Praying for those who have lost so much in this firestorm.

Heading North

Episode #17

We went to our favorite place on earth for our day date #17, Lake Superior.

We enjoyed doing a lot of stuff this day, it was a full day.

We visited Tetzner's Dairy.

Visited Houghton Falls.

Stopped at Siskiwit Falls.

Enjoyed dinner with my parents. We met up for a smelt fry.

I pressed spring flowers along the way.

It was a fun, full day up North.

We purchased fresh smoked fish. Fresh from the waters of Lake Superior.

We came home with fresh ice cream!

We enjoyed a homemade ice cream sandwich.

I was picking spring flowers and pressing them as we traveled.

Thank you for coming along with me on our day date #17.
How do you like the added art work to this sign? I am finding a lot of additional touches to the signs on our adventures.

Episode #24

Hello Friends, I last shared episode #14 with you on our day dates, I am rather behind. Today I am jumping to episode #24. I plan to stay current and go back to share our past day dates. I will tell you, life is full and I will take that as a blessing. My goal is not to fall behind again.

Friday, June 12 we took a trip to Interstate State Park, St. Croix, Wisconsin.

Looking across the river is Minnesota, "Hello Minnesota".

Click here for more about Interstate State Park

We decided to hike Silverbrook Trail. We have visited Interstate many times when our kids where growing up, but we never hiked this trial.

Below is some information about the remains of the mansion that once was.

You are able to see much of the foundation, the old mine and the natural spring.

The weather was beautiful. We had high humidity earlier in the week creating some nasty storms. Friday was a perfect Wisconsin summer day. We did see some storm damage on our hike.

Team Day Date

We set off to find the hidden waterfall.

I love the sound of water, we could hear the falls before we could see it.

Later in the evening we did have a thunderstorm, you can see the clouds forming in the below photo.

We enjoyed a fun dinner at the Drive In before heading home.

It is a Badlands Hodgepodge

Badlands, South Dakota

Hello Friends,

It is Wednesday and that means it is time for the Hodgepodge.

Joyce asks the questions.

We answer the questions.

Click here to join the fun!

 1. April 22nd is Earth Day...what's the most 'out of this world' place on earth you've ever visited? Tell us something about it.

We visited the Badlands in South Dakota. In my opinion it is 'out of this world' with unique beauty.

I found a flower growing.

The colors are always changing in the landscape.

They call it the land of stone and light.

2. A favorite quote, verse, or song lyric with the word earth in it?

"The earth laughs in flowers."

Ralph Waldo Emerson

 3. What's the most trivial thing about which you have a strong opinion?

I do not like when one mixes our coffee roasts. Ha!

We purchase different roasts of coffee. I like to just have the french roast be the french roast. There is someone else in this house that will mix the french roast with the dark roast and other roasts. He makes up his own roast I guess.

Ha!

 4. What's your most commonly used kitchen utensil or tool? What's the last thing you made using that tool?

The strainer. I use a strainer just about everyday.

I strained tuna to make a tuna sandwich for lunch.

5. Marilyn (Memphis Bridges) gave me a great book of 3000 questions, and I'm going to try to use one in our Hodgepodge every week. Here is today's -

What is your greatest extravagance?

Plants!!

Seeds!!

Gardening gear!!

Where We Left Off

Where we left off was episode 11 of the 52ish Day Datn' ...

so here we go with episode 12.

Episode 12

We attended a choral concert at a local church. It was a beautiful evening enjoying local musical talent.

We captured a photo of one of the beautiful stained glass windows as we left the concert.

Episode 13

Episode 13 started with a walk along the Red Cedar River. It was a beautiful spring afternoon.

We returned home from our walk along the river and started in on the kitchen dance.

We worked together making dinner.

We made a Dubliner

&

Fresh Roasted Pepper Tomato Soup

Not Wisconsin Cheese ... but oh so good!

We finished this day date with our favorite ice cream.

His & Hers

I am the Mint Chocolate Chip and he is the Really Reese's.

 Episode #14

On the road we went for this Day Datn' trip.

We headed to Colfax, Wisconsin to explore another section of the Red Cedar River.

Red Cedar Preserve and Recreation Area

We enjoyed a two mile hike along the banks of the Red Cedar River. We saw several ducks, geese and swans. We enjoyed the area and we know we will be coming back to do this hike again in all the seasons.

We decided to drive into the community of Colfax before heading for home. We are glad we did. We found more places we want to explore. I have a feeling Colfax will be another episode of 52ish Day Datn'.

To be continued....
