Just about forgot...

 

When I flip the calendar page, I will share the past page with you here on the blog.

Only one more page to go.. today here is November 2024.

And the story is, we adopted a rescue dog in October of 2023. My sister gifted this calendar to us featuring a little rescue dog. As each month goes by I will give a little update on our Ernie.

He is doing well... but he will be the first to tell you he does not like cold weather. We had wild cold winds in November and he would have to put his face down and brave the wind as we went for our walk. His fur would blow right flat on his back.

He would be happy to get home, get a treat and curl up in his bed. 

 

October Copper Dog Update

 

 

November is going by fast, and I have yet to share the October calendar page for our little rescue dog, Ernie. My sister gifted us a cute calendar featuring a rescue dog. We rescued our Ernie, October of 2023. I have been sharing monthly updates as I flip the calendar. 

Ernie has officially lived with us for a year.  He has done so well. We love that little dog and his personality.

Hello Friends, back in October of 2023, we adopted an 8 month old rescue dog named Ernie. I have been sharing his story along with the calendar page from each month. My sister gifted us the calendar, it is so cute, I wanted to share each page and give you an Ernie update for the year. 

September found us going on two camping trips. Ernie loves all the hiking we do. 

He is always excited to see us grab his orange leash, time for a walk and explore.

He has come a long way from that day in October that we brought him home. He truly is a sweetheart and makes us laugh everyday. And it is true, I sometimes wonder who rescued who, he was just what I needed after a troubling time.

Hello Friends, our Penelope the cat and Ernie the dog love to soak in the sunshine.

 

Penelope's birthday was in late August she is 7 years old.

 

We were very lucky that she had no problem having Ernie come to live with us. They became fast friends.

 

Our pets match our rug. Ha Ha!

 

Tea pot's on, cups are waiting, favorite chairs, anticipating, no matter what I have to do, my friend, there's always time for you.

Turning the calendar ... what is new with Ernie

 

We flipped the calendar.. it is time to do an Ernie report.

April 22nd marked Ernie's six month date of being rescued by us.

He has come a long way!! When we first brought him home he was scared of everything. We slowly introduced him to our home, yard and neighborhood. 

Today, he is very comfortable in his home, yard and neighborhood. It all takes time and patience. 

He loves to have belly rubs. 

He loves to be brushed. After our hikes in the woods, we have to do a tick check, he sees the brush and gets ready for a good scratch. 

He loves to stop and visit our neighbors dogs, Simon and Prince when we go for our neighborhood walk.

 

We are working on jumping. He gets so excited to see us when we arrive home and gets excited when we have friends over. 

He does not mind being brushed, but if we do find a tick, he does not like us trying to pull it off. With all the wire hair it is not that easy. Working on letting us pull ticks. Thankfully he has only had three stuck.

We recently stopped in at our favorite Gouda Cheese Shop and we were given a free mustard sauce to try. It is delicious and it is all gone. I loved dipping my chicken tenders in it and with my hard boiled eggs.

 

Spring has sprung here in the garden.

 

 

Ernie and Penelope.. are like little children, they want to get in the bathroom with you. My husband is busy using the loo, with the door closed. They are saying"let us in"!

 

 

My friend Khristeen sent me this photo via text message. More signs of spring and more taking time to stop and notice the little things.

 

 

 Our first duck egg... from Lucy and Ethel. Not sure who laid the first egg, but thank you.

We flipped the calendar. Here is what Ernie has been up to..

 ♥ doing very well with sit and stay... will listen to guests to sit to receive a treat

 ♥ playing fetch... brings back his ball or toy, placing it by your feet

 ♥ walks very well on his lead and listens to sit and stay on our walks

♥ working on... barking... he loves to bark at our neighbor kids when they are out playing

♥ he also had overnight company... which he loves... when our boys come to spend the weekend... just like me.

 1. What's a talent you wish you had? 

I wish I had the gift of music, I cannot sing or play any instrument or keep a beat to be  honest about it. I am a mess... but I love music. 

2. In one word, what's your state of mind right now? 

HAPPY

 3. What's the next major purchase you need to make? Will it happen this month? This year? 

One may not think a vacuum cleaner as a major purchase, but it takes some research on what one to purchase. Yes, we will be purchasing a new vacuum cleaner this week.

 

Ernie + Penenlope + Me = a lot of hair to vacuum up. I shed as much as the dog and cat in the Spring. Ha Ha!!!

 4. Tuesday (April 2nd) was National PB and J Day...did you celebrate? No  

 Is a peanut butter and jelly sandwich something you eat weekly or more?No, but my husband loves PB&J sandwich's and he eats them weekly. 

 What's your favorite kind of jelly? Strawberry

 

5. Are you easily intimidated? Who or what intimidates you?  

I do not want to make this a looooong story... so I will share the short version.

Who intimidates me... are people HIGH on drugs. During the summer of 2023 our neighbor across they way got hooked up with a fella, that ended up on drugs. He started to bother me while I was out working in my garden. His eyes would be popping out of his face, he was sweating and acting very strange. Needless to say, he intimidated me BIG TIME!!!  There is more to this story that I will share another day.

I am thankful for my husband, family and friends who stepped in and helped me during this time... until the fella was escorted out of my neighborhood.

January Update ~ The Little Copper Dog

My sister gifted us a 2024 calendar ~ The Truth About Dog People ~

As I change the calendar page each month, I will share the illustration and  give an update on Ernie our rescue dog.

 

 

I shared the story about adopting Ernie here.

January Update

 ♥ Ernie has lived with us for 3 months.

♥ His paperwork from Texas stated that his birthday was December 10th, 2022 .. his paperwork from Wisconsin stated that his birthday is February 10th, 2023. He is a year old. He moved in with us in late October. Adopting an older dog, who was not neutered at the time, (he is now) a rescue and not knowing what challenges may all come with that, we are happy to report Ernie is doing very well.

♥ Ernie does not look like he did in the photo above. He has gained weight and the color of his fur has darkened.   

 

 

 

  ♥ He loves to play tug. 

♥ He loves to go for walks.

 ♥ He loves to cuddle.

We are working on.. knowing when to stop barking. He is a great watchdog, but once I have let him know it is alright these folks are our friends, he still is not sure and will give his two cents of woofs a few more minutes.

Jumping up.. we are still working on this, he gets very excited when we come home, when he is greeted by friends and when he plays.

 ♥ 

Ernie as been a very good distraction for me. And that is part of why I wanted to take on the challenge of bringing Ernie home. No one knows what a rescue has been through and how they will act. We have been blessed, Ernie wants to learn and is eager to please. And for me with society feeling rather shaky right now. The media keeping up the frenzy of FEAR. We took on the challenge of Ernie, keeping me grounded in reality. And enjoying life that comes with training up a little copper dog.

 1. August 8th is National Cat Day. Do you own a cat? Are you a 'cat person'? Your favorite 'famous' cat?

We do own a cat. 

A story about our cat Penelope... aka "That Cat" !!!

We purchased a new rug and she made sure it was Penelope approved. The rug set for 24 hours before placing our dining table and chairs on it.

 

  Yes, I am a cat person. 

My favorite famous cat is, Catbert.

 Catbert is a red fictional cat, and the "evil director of human resources" in the Dilbert comic strip. He was supposed to be a one-time character but resonated with readers so well that Adams brought him back as the HR director.

 2. Cat nap-copycat-scaredy cat-curiosity killed the cat-cat got your tongue-like herding cats...which cat phrase applies to your life in some way currently? Explain. 

Cat nap ... Friday  I had a very busy morning and early afternoon. At 3:00 PM I laid down and enjoyed a fantastic Cat nap.

 3. What's your favorite or most- often-made one pot meal?

  4. What do you wish you'd placed in a time capsule fifteen years ago? 

A vax for common sense... where has it gone?

I love my mornings in the garden. It is peaceful, me, the birds, plants and bugs.

 Hello Friends, today I am sharing a little of this and that with you.

 

I purchased and planted this peony two years ago and this was the first season for it to bloom.

 My husband and I cleaned our basement and three closets. We decided to have a sale. My husband named it the Driveway Sale, because it was not in the garage or in the yard.

Ms. Penelope... she does not understand when we turn on the central air in our house. She loves to lay on or in front of our heat vents during the heating season. When it is time to turn on the central air, she smells the vents and jumps back when the cold air blows out.

 Shut the door, not that it lets in the cold ~ But that it lets out the cozyness.

I recently prepared 15 vases for a Celebration of Life. One of my customers who shops regularly at the Flower Shack contacted me about designing 15 vases for her Grandma's Celebration of Life. 

Her grandma loved receiving a bouquet from the Flower Shack and was always impressed with how long the flowers lasted in the vase. I was so happy to hear that. I strive for vase life in designing my bouquets. 

I was blessed to design the bouquets for the Celebration of Life.

The hardest part is the transport. I was happy to have my husband who is a master at packing help me make the bouquets secure for transport.
