Hello Friends, it is Wednesday and that means it is time for the Hodgepodge.
Joyce asks the questions.
We answer the questions.
1. What's something you think is under appreciated. Explain.
I think the folks that do our "Dirty Jobs" can be under appreciated.
Monday evening we attended our monthly village board meeting. Listening to the Street and Utility Department report reminded me of all that is going on behind the scenes to keep our municipality going strong.
2. As winter approaches how do you stay productive?
We live in Wisconsin. The above funny can explain how we roll around here in the winter. We just Keep er Moving.
There are a lot of fun activities in the winter.
One of the many is the Book Across the Bay. Ski, snowshoe or walk along the frozen shores of Lake Superior. We have skied and snowshoed in this event.
It is held at night, with luminaries lighting the path. The winter sky dark and full of stars, it really is magical.
3. What's a popular food you don't like?
I do not like broccoli or cauliflower? Are they a popular food?
4. What do you think is more interesting-art or history? Elaborate.
I enjoy both. If I have to pick one, I will go with history. History was my favorite class during my school days.
5. What advice would you give to someone half your age?
Set boundaries. This was something I had to learn, the hard way.
Below I share one of the books that helped me a great deal after my trust was broken.
Beyond Boundaries: Learning to Trust Again in Relationships
By John Townsend
For when your trust has been broken: discover how to set firm boundaries again, how to connect deeply without being hurt, and how to safely grow your most intimate relationships.Painful relationships violate our trust, causing us to close our hearts. But to experience the freedom and love God designed us for, we eventually have to take another risk.In this breakthrough book, bestselling author Dr. John Townsend takes you beyond the pain of the past to discover how to re-enter a life of intimate relationships. Whether you're trying to restore a current relationship or begin a new one, Townsend gives practical tools for establishing trust and finding the intimacy you long for.
And when it does this is how dirty our vehicle can get after a day out on an adventure. Salt and sand used on the highways to keep our roadways clean of ice and snow. Oh that makes me think about another "Dirty Job" all those that maintain our roadways. Thank you.. so we can Keep er Moving!
I'm not sure broccoli or cauliflower would make it on to a list of favourite foods but I will eat both lol. Have a good day Carla
ReplyDeleteWhat a cool event! I love that it's lighted too. So pretty! My hubs does not agree but I miss a teensy bit of real winter. We might get one light snowfall here but then it could be 60 degrees the next day so it's not what I call real snow. I think broccoli is very popular and cauliflower is one of those people have mixed feelings about. I love them both though. Enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteBook Across the Bay looks like an amazing event. I do like broccoli but my husband only tolerates it haha! I can't imagine having that much beautiful snow. I don't have enough warm clothes for your climate brrr! Our weather folks have trouble, too. We are in tornado alley plus only four hours from the Gulf coast -- we've been known to close schools and churches because a tornado or hurrican was heading our way . . .and then it turns or doesn't intensify. We've also closed everything down because they were sure we were getting snow and then none . . .but the opposite also happened not too many years ago. They didn't think we were going to get anything but a dusting of snow and instead we got a blizzard (by southern standards) and a lot of us got snowed in at our various work places. Mark made it home but it took him 7 hours. Someone on our staff had a four wheel drive jeep and we slipped and slid to my mother-in-law's house where I stayed four days in the same clothes (we did wash them haha!). Our daughter was able to walk to my mother-in-law's house and she had her gym bag so she at least had a change of clothes. I actually feel sorry for the weather forecasters when they are so wrong.
ReplyDeleteI agree with you about the “dirty jobs” They are undervalued and unappreciated but are essential. I detest it when I hear others refer to these jobs as “unskilled” So that would mean the CEO or banker could step in and do the job? I doubt that!
ReplyDeleteI’ve read many of John Townsend’s book and Boundaries is one of them for sure.
Have a good one, Carla
What a fun event to participate in! I'd worry about walking on a lake and I would need some encouragement and reassuring. :) Fun and funny GIF at the top of your post! Yes, those who do dirty jobs need some encouragement!! Happy Wednesday to you.
ReplyDeleteHope you don't get too much snow. Take care. Good point on the dirty jobs. I hope you enjoy those events this winter. Yes, those are popular foods. Sorry you don't like them. I think I would of guessed you would pick history. I like what you shared on relationships. I could use some advice. I hope your winter is a mild one and that dirt would really bother me. I remember it well from Chicago.
ReplyDeleteI can tolerate winter, but even though I've spent most of my life in Wisconsin...winter is just too long. So I have trouble following the "keep er moving" advice. I'd rather hibernate through most of January and February. Southern (note the stipulation) Wisconsin is, however, in my opinion one of the best places to live from March through October. ;-) This was a fun post!
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like a really good job. Boundaries have always been hard for me. The big ski over the bay photo looks beautiful!
ReplyDeleteLove how you all roll in the winter with the event which is one way to keep active and enjoy winter.
ReplyDeleteI'm sorry that you don't like broccoli and Cauliflower. I love them both but I don't like them overcooked. They have to be a bit crunchy.
ReplyDeleteI used to love winter but as I get older, I enjoy the first snowfall and then, I'm done, lol...
Your snow alert made me laugh. I'm sure the snow isn't too far away. It's getting cold here.
Take care. Hugs,
Julia
I considered a similar answer to something under appreciated, but chose something else. But you're so right - we sure should appreciate the folks that do those "dirty jobs" that help keep the country going! That Book Across the Bay event looks so cool - and also cold! Hope you're having a great week!
ReplyDeleteUGH how well I remember, all those years we lived in the Midwest, when cars looked like that during the winter months! When I was a kid I thought that all winter, beautiful white snow covered everything. Living "up north" as a college student and then married adult, I realized that my brother-in-law, Ron (who grew up alongside TG in a suburb of Toledo, Ohio, but who now lives just across the state line in Temperance, Michigan) was right when he said: The romance of the snow lasts until the day after Christmas! Hahahaha after that it's gray and dirty and ugh just all the things that make me glad I live someplace where it does not snow. Hardly ever. But then I'm the type to watch snow from the windows rather than get out in it, hahaha! Not the outdoorsy type at all. You are so right about setting boundaries being one of the most important things ever. xoxo
ReplyDeleteHi Carla. The event on Lake Superior looks amazing. I do not look forward to winter but I do love it at the holidays and also when special events are going on. Have a great rest of the week. Hugs. Kris
ReplyDeleteWhat a fun event! I do like broccoli and cauliflower, and I dislike black olives.
ReplyDeleteI agree, I do appreciate the folks that are employed with "dirty jobs".
I agree with you on the so called 'dirty jobs'. They are essential. I don't really have an opinion on cauliflower but I love broccoli in a curry, it absorbs all the juicy and becomes an explosion of flavor.
ReplyDeleteYes, those dirty jobs are essential!! I think people greatly underestimate their value and importance...and I'm a history buff, too!! (But I think you knew that!!) Happy Week my friend!
ReplyDeleteThat event looks so pretty! I love broccoli and cauliflower but I hate beets (I don't think beets are a popular food either!).
ReplyDeleteYes, in Wisconsin we have to Keep -er movin!
