Hello Summer and It is the Hodgepodge

Hello Summer and it is the Hodgepodge.

Joyce asks the questions.

We answer the questions.

Click here to join the fun!

1. Summer officially begins this week (in the northern hemisphere)...what was your favorite thing to do in the summer when you were a kid? What do you like most about summer now?

Family would come to visit from Southern Wisconsin. I enjoyed playing and visiting with my aunts, uncles and cousins.

And what do I like most about summer now? The same thing, we get together as a family one weekend every summer. We laugh, get out on the water kayaking, fishing, campfires, enjoy delicious food and we have s'mores.

 2.  Something you'll celebrate this summer?

I guess I answered this above. We will celebrate family.

  3. Summer tastes like? Smells like? Sounds like?

Summer tastes like?

Watermelon!!

Summer smells like?

The beach!!

Summer sounds like?

Road construction .. the below photo was taken from our bedroom window.

 4. June 18th is National Splurge Day...what's the last thing you splurged on? What might you splurge on today?

What is the last thing we splurged on? Cheese! We love Gouda cheese. Marieke Gouda in Thorp, Wisconsin makes the best Gouda. We don't live close by, so when we had a recent road trip that way, we stopped and splurged to fill the cheese drawer in the refrigerator.

Click here if you want to learn more about Marieke Gouda

I will not be doing any splurging today.

 5. Share a favorite summer quote, saying, song lyric, or meme.

"And you know it's not so much the heat as it is the gosh darn humidity"

 6. Insert your own random thought here.

We enjoyed a special Father's Day with our boys.

We went to a local baseball game, it was a fun game, lots of action and of course spending the day with family, that is what it is all about.

  3. The best kind of summers is exactly like you described Carla.. I am becoming a fan of Gouda cheese....Daughter (Trista) has introduced me to it and how yummy it is on a salad. Your guys are all handsome young men. Summer is Here in Texas for sure..

  4. Your summer quote is a perfect one for Alabama . . .where I live. This morning when I stepped outside, it felt like a wet hot blanket! It is not even 9:00 a.m. yet and the humidity is 83%; Dewpoint is 73. We love grits at our house and when I make cheese grits, one of the cheeses I use is gouda - yum!

  11. Hope you get lots more family fun in this Summer. Here in Michigan we call the orange construction barrels our state animal. They come out everywhere this time of year. Janice

  12. I don't think roadwork would be a very pleasant sound of summer - hope the work is finished soon and benefits you! Thorp, Wisconsin is a bit too far away for us to visit or we probably would - it being our last name plus we love cheese! Love the Father's Day photo. Hope your summer is off to a great start!

  13. My daughter has a friend from Wisconsin (they live in TN) and whenever her friend visits family she returns with cheese to share. I will have to ask her about this one. I love gouda. And all cheese : ). I love your patriotic flower pot! Happy summering!

  14. Carla, I have not had watermelon yet. What a pretty pot of flowers that is with the flag. I've heard about the humidity in the southern states. I didn't realize Wisconsin had such humidity. I love that Father's Day picture. And I liked hearing about your visits with your aunts, uncles, and cousins. Those seem to be the most memorable times we had growing up.

  18. How nice spending time with family. I enjoyed reading you answers. Yes, humidity can be really hard to handle. We don't get much here which is nice. I could go for some watermelon. I most likely will not be visiting much since we are heading to Montana on Tuesday. Take care.

  21. Hahaha once I was in New Orleans and saw this sign on a door: "It's not the heat; it's the stupidity." Oh DEAR! How TRUE! Down here, where high humidity is a given at least 70% of rhe year, we are likely to say "It's not the heat; it's the humanity." Hahahha xoxo
