Dog Days

Ernie, chilling on my mom's chair.

Hello Friends, do I have a story for you. Two weeks ago our neighbor stopped me to have me meet their new puppy, Lucy. I noticed Lucy had band-aids  on her sweet puppy face.

Lucy was attacked the day before by a pit-bull that lives down the street from us. I did not even know a pit-bull lived at that house.  The pit-bull got out of his fenced backyard and traveled down Arlington Avenue. Lucy the puppy was out with her 7 year old owner, when all heck broke loose. The pit-bull attacked Lucy the puppy, threw her up in the air. In the meantime, Stella our other neighbors dog sensed trouble, she got in between the pit-bull and the little girl. All the commotion brought all the adults out. They were able to get the pit-bull and called the police.

The pit-bull was taken back to the home that it belongs and told to keep that dog in its fenced yard.

YIKES!

This week I was out for my evening walk with Ernie. A white dog started to follow us from behind down the sidewalk as we did our usual walk around our neighborhood. A father out playing with his three children saw the dog and tried to catch it. This gave me time to get a move on and hightail it home.

YIKES!!

And for my final dog days story. The evening of Thursday of last week,  my husband and I set out for our evening walk. We see a women with a dog ahead, she does not have the dog on a leash. As we get closer, we are walking faster than she is, she says, "No worries, my dog is friendly." As the dog proceeds to run full speed, barking and  foaming at the mouth towards us. It happens all so fast!! That dog is after our Ernie, who is on a leash. I cannot pick Ernie up because the foaming at the mouth dog is pushing into me. My husband is trying to grab the dog. The women yells at us, "I will handle this." She turns on her shocker that she has in her hand to full blast, the dog begins to yelp in pain and is paralyzed.

We once again, hightail it home.

YIKES!!!

We look over Ernie, he is fine. We look at each other and shake our heads.

"What in the blue moon is going on with people!"

  1. I remember when I was a child, everyone let their dogs roam. There was always dog fights and children getting bit. That’s why we eventually got all the leash laws, mandatory licencing, and vaccination. Because of careless people who ruin things for good dog owners. Here, we can no longer take our dogs in state parks because of of bad dog owners. Fortunately I haven’t encountered any of that in decades. But if you go to the country, occasionally there’s a country dog that runs a long the side of the car, barking, showing teeth like he’s going to kill us while biting the tires! 🛞 🙀

  2. Makes me sad for the the little dog who the pit bull attacked. I personally am not a fan of Pit Bulls. So thankful that the little girl was not hurt. Wonder why the owner had not ALREADY used a small dose of the shock when she saw her dog being aggressive. Your Ernie looks so comfortable in the chair.

  3. That’s one wild “Dog Days” saga From Lucy’s scary pit-bull attack (go Stella!) to the surprise white dog shadowing you, and then the foaming “friendly” dog sprint… yikes doesn’t even cover it.

  4. Holy Cow!!! I just read all of this aloud to Phil. I am so glad all of you are alright! Yes, of course a dog is very friendly...with it's OWNER!! I am terrified when Phil walks, because there are a lot of dogs roaming around here. I want him to carry an umbrella, or at least buy some pepper spray or something. Speaking of which, you need to do yourself!

  5. Wow, what a story! We have wild boars wandering our streets and people are careful with their dogs.

  6. Those are some crazy and scary stories. The dog attack on your own pup must have been scary. I hope that the pit bull doesn't get out of his yard again. They are born to be aggressive and the breed has harmed so many people.

  7. OMG. That is why they have laws that your dog has to be on a leash. Down here if a dog bites anyone or any animal it has to be quarantined for 10 days and rabies tested on day one and day 10. It is reported to the county and if the dog does it a second time it has to be euthanized. These are strong arm laws but a dog off a leash and aggressive can really hurt someone. Poor Ernie had to be so frightened along with you. I am glad he was ok. We have always treated our dogs like our own family as I know you do with Ernie. Most people do but we forget sometimes they are still animals and sometimes their instincts take over like with the pit bull and that ladies dog. I hate those shock collars. I am glad it got the dog under control but if she had him on a leash she would not have to go to such extremes to hurt her own pet. Ugh!!! Maybe we should put the shock collar on her. Did I say that out loud lol! Have a good week. Hugs. Kris
