My favorite Valentine made with love from my mom. Hello Friends, It is Wednesday and that means it is time for the Hodgepodge! Joyce asks the questions. We answer the questions. Click here to join the fun 1. The Winter Olympics kick off on Friday, February 6th...on a scale of
1-10 how excited are you? (1= eh and 10=watching every event all day
every day). What's your favorite Winter Olympic sporting event? 3 ~ I will catch some highlights. In years past I have enjoyed watching figuring skating. |
2. In other sporting news, the Superbowl (American football's
championship game) will be played on Sunday, February 8th. So tell
us...what's your superpower?I have been blessed with a green thumb.
I love to garden.
I grow flowers and vegetables.
3. Are you a romantic?
I care deeply about those that I love. I do reach out and try to be sure those who are close to me know that I care for them.
I also like old traditions ... handwritten letters, opening the door, sharing your jacket when you are cold ... or in my case usually his baseball hat.
My sweet husband will give me his baseball hat on windy days if I forget mine when we are on an adventure. My hair will be flying all over and will ask for his hat.
X O
4. Blue cheese-yay or nay? How about feta? If you said yes to one or both, what's a dish you like that calls for one of these?
We do not eat blue cheese.
We do like feta.
I have a muffin recipe that has spinach, sweet potato and feta all mixed in, it is delicious.
5. What's more important-doing what you love or loving what you do?
I love it when I can be doing what I love to do.
When my boys were growing up we all had chores we do not love to do. So to help with the attitude I turned to Mary Poppins ... to try and make those not so lovable chores into at least liking what we had to do. I still do this with myself.

In every job that must be done
There is an element of fun
You find the fun and snap!
The job's a game
… And every task you undertake
Becomes a piece of cake
A lark! A spree! It's very clear to see that
… A Spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down
The medicine go down-wown
The medicine go down
Just a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down
In a most delightful way
… A robin feathering his nest
Has very little time to rest
While gathering his bits of twine and twig
Though quite intent in his pursuit
He has a merry tune to toot
He knows a song will move the job along - for
… A spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down
The medicine go down-wown
The medicine go down
Just a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down
In a most delightful way

While we are on the subject of romantic, what are a few of your favorite romantic movies?
I am going to share two oldies.
Sabrina 1954
The Apartment 1960
I love your intentional, good attitude about doing chores that sound less than fun. Thanks for the lyrics to the song. Love it! You have been blessed with a green thumb. Mine is getting there :). I love that flower picture! Have a great day :).
ReplyDeleteI like the way you encouraged your boys to 'love what they do' even when they didn't. We like Sabrina and I think the new one is also pretty good, with Julia Ormond and Harrison Ford. I'm sure you're looking forward to getting back into your garden. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteMary Poppins to the rescue to get chores done lol! Super cute idea. You are so right with your super power being your beautiful flowers and veggies. Have a beautiful week. Hugs. Kris
ReplyDeleteWonderful to be a green thumb. I am managing a few hard to kill houseplants and that is a win for me.
ReplyDeleteMorning Carla...having a green thumb is a huge bonus in life. My mom had one and so do I. love all kinds of flowers and plants. Lets see...Sweet home Alabama and my all time favorite movie is "The Notebook." What a blessing it is for you Carla to have this very special heart made by your mom. LOVE IT!!
ReplyDeleteReading your answer to the romantic question makes me want to change my answer. Those are great observations of romantic. Haha, yep we've sung that song a few times around here! Hooray for your green thumb and the benefits you enjoy from that. Pride and Prejudice comes to mind for a romantic series. (the BBC version).
ReplyDeleteThis blog is such a bolt of joy, thank you for that! I love gardening, too. Also cooking. I like all cheese, but I can't enjoy it anymore - I think the lactose doesn't agree with me as I get older? Olympics, yes winter-5 summer-8.
ReplyDeleteAww! What a sweet gift from your mom!
ReplyDeleteI am looking forward to watching the figure skating too during the Winter Olympics.
That flower is beautiful! Well done with growing it!
You definitely have a green thumb Carla. Mine has no green in it whatsoever lol. (Unless we're talking spider plants but then who can't grow a spider plant?)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Valentine 💝 gift 🎁 from your mom.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous flower 🌼 🌸
That is a sweet gift from your mom. I'm going to watch the opening ceremony and ice skating for sure. Yes, you definitely have a green thumb. Sweet answer for #3. Sounds like a good muffin. Love your answer for #5 with Mary Poppins. I don't believe I am familiar with either of those movies. Enjoy the rest of your week.
ReplyDeleteYour Mom's heart is beautiful. I remember this song. My favorite Olympic sport is figure skating too! We follow it all through the season. This flower is gorgeous, and just made for Valentine's Day.
ReplyDeletethe last quote about figure skating and your mom' heart was me, Ginny. Blogger is making me anonymous again!
ReplyDeleteI love your super power - cool!!
ReplyDeleteI do like those words from Mary Poppins :)
ReplyDeleteYour moms heart is lovely.
All the best Jan
Great movies, Carla! There are so many I would add to that list, including an An Affair To Remember and Random Harvest. I'm definitely a romantic and I love your Mary Poppins reference for chores. There used to be a children's show on PBS called The Big Comfy Couch and at the end she would play music and do a 10 Second Tidy. I used to hum that song and set the timer when we had chores like that to do!! Of course, sometimes it was a 30 second tidy...but when no one can tell time, who's counting!! 😉 PS. Love your mom's heart!!
ReplyDeleteYou always have good movie pics! I love the Mary Poppins song. Those muffins sound so good. You definitely do have a very green thumb!
ReplyDeleteYour mom’s handmade valentine is such a treasure, Carla ❤️
ReplyDeleteYou were a fun mom in getting g your boys to do chores.
I don’t think I’ve ever seen either of those movies that you mentioned.
Your super power is a lovely one! Mine would be baking and cooking.
I use to like watching the figure skating too but have not done so in years. No Superbowl here. I did see the Budweiser commercial already and it brought me to tears. Janice
ReplyDeleteI love that you have a green thumb! Mine is rather brownish...somehow when God was handing out the green thumbs He must've given two of them to my sister and skipped right over me! LOL. Oh, I love how you sang the Mary Poppins song with your boys. And I'm glad that your boys learned to do chores "in a most delightful way". Re: the Olympics, I would love to watch the figure skating. Hubby is just bummed because they are taking off the Hockey games (NHL) while the Olympics are on. So maybe I can talk him into watching the figure skating with me instead...we'll see. He'd rather watch hockey players doing their fancy skating routines. LOL. Have a lovely week.
ReplyDeleteI don't think I have ever heard of either of those movies. I will have to look them up! I wish I had the green thumb superpower. I do love my houseplants and I am learning...but nowhere near a green thumb!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful treasure you have from your Mom. I love the beautiful details!
ReplyDeleteI wish I thought about making the chores more fun when my boys were growing up. Well done, Momma!
I will be looking up those movies. How fun!
You and I have the same superpowers. I too have a green thumb. I love to garden!
Happy February! 🩷

I love the lyrics from Mary Poppins and the wisdom in your answer to that question!
ReplyDeleteThe first movie that came to mind as a favorite romantic movie is actually a mini-series - Pride and Prejudice (the BBC version with Colin Firth). I love that one so much. I usually gravitate towards comedies or action movies so the romantic ones don't pop into my head! LOL
Hope you're having a great week - I'm quickly catching up on Hodgepodge comments before the next round!
