Waving Goodbye to February and it is the Hodgepodge

Madison, Wisconsin twinkling at night.

Hello Friends,

It is Wednesday!

That means it is time for the Hodgepodge.

Click here to join the fun!

Joyce asks the questions.

We answer the questions.

1. America celebrates turning 250 years old this year. Primary cities set to lead the celebrations on July 4th are Boston, Philadelphia, New York, and Washington D.C. Other significant locations for celebrating will be Charleston SC and the 'historic triangle' which includes Jamestown-Willimasburg-Yorktown Virginia.

Of the cities listed how many have you seen in person? Of the cities listed which would you most like to visit this year? Any plans to do so? What's one place in America you think everyone should see? If you're not American what's one place in the US you'd like to see?

I have visited Boston, Philadelphia and New York.

I would like to visit Washington D.C., nope it is not on the 2026 itinerary.

If you have not visited Wisconsin yet, I would highly recommend it.  Wisconsin is home sweet home for me and most of our family. You can experience all four seasons in one day if you hit your visit just right. Ha ha!

I am sharing photos of our state capitol, Madison.

2. Three sounds you love to hear?

♥ bird song

 ♥ water in nature

♥ the cry of a loon on the lake during a summer evening

 3. Three sounds you hate to hear?

▼ loud vehicles

▼   fighting

 ▼ hail

 4. February 24th is/was National Tortilla Chip Day. Are you a fan? With salsa, guacamole, queso, or just plain please? Do you like nachos? With what on top? Is there anything (besides nachos) you make that calls for tortilla chips?

 I am a superfan!

I love tortilla chips with salsa, guacomole, queso and plain.

I love nachos.

We like everything on top.

Another thing we make that we like to eat tortilla chips with is taco soup.

5. We March into March with next week's Hodgepodge...what's one thing on your March calendar that makes you smile?

We have two music events we are going to attend in the month of March.

 6. Insert your own random thought here.

 The promise of spring!

  1. We have a loon in our cove now and we love it. We used to only see them on another part of the lake, but we've seen two here the past few months and I think they live here now : ) We have lots of Wisconsin friends here on the lake. There's a fair number who've migrated from that area here. It's funny how people find the lake. We make our brats the Wisconsin way now because a friend gave us the instructions. Have a great day!

  2. Good Morning Carla. Love all your answers. Growing up in Michigan when we stayed at my grandma and grandpa's house on the lake and I loved the singing of the loons out on the lake too. Have a great week. Hugs. Kris

  3. Of those cities I have not been to New York...not sure I would want to anyway. I hate hail too because round here its a sign of a tornado most times. We put tortilla chips in our Mexican soups too! One day would like to visit your state. Janice

  6. Good Morning. I like nachos too. And taco soup sounds delicious!
Your capital building is gorgeous! I love how it is lit up at night.
I love the sound of loons too. Such an incredible sound.
I have been to Wisconsin. You do have a beautiful state! I have several pictures of barns that I took when we were driving through Wisconsin. ❤️
Blessings to you. Enjoy the rest of your week.

  7. Loud vehicles! I can't believe I didn't think of that. One of our neighbors has a "hot rod" type of car and when they crank it up, I imagine people over a mile away can hear it hahaha!

  8. I've visited all those cities and would love to again. Hopefully I get a chance to visit Wisconsin in my lifetime :).
Tortilla chips, yes any way I can get them! We have a little local shop that makes excellent salsa and their own chips. They are Incredible. Yes, bird song is pure joy. Laughter, too.

    Yay for Spring!

  9. Oh my, your tortilla chips and taco soup look really good, Carla. I love to hear the bird's song too, well most of them. There's one around here that's pretty loud. What is it about loud vehicles?....I'm with you on that. I chuckled when you said, "you can experience all four seasons in one day." My father-in-law used to talk about Wisconsin all the time, telling us how pretty it was. The photo of your state capitol is dazzling at night. Have a happy week, Carla.

  10. I've been to Madison a few times because our best friend from High School went there. Yes, Wisconsin is awesome and I would like to visit Washington, D.C. also. Those are nice sounds and I don't like the others either. You're making me hungry with your nachos. Enjoy your music events. Yes, Spring is definitely something to look forward to. We have been having some temperature around 80 degrees. Enjoy the rest of your week.

  11. I love to hear the birds singing as well. And the loon calls are so lonely, beautiful, and kind of sorrowful all at once.

  13. I love the sound of water in nature as well! I haven't been to Wisconsin in a long time- probably since I was a teenager. I'd love to visit DC but I doubt very much it will happen in '26.

I don't hear loons in Montreal, but I am familiar with their sound from videos and documentaries. A beautiful, haunting sound! Very unique and soothing.
