We Made it to Seven

Valentine's Day 2026 was Episode 7 of 52ish Day Datn'.

We headed to our favorite beach, Wisconsin Point along the shores of Lake Superior. Wisconsin's winter has been cold, cold, cold, I know I have mentioned that a few too many times here, but I have to share it again as you look out at Lake Superior you see a frozen shore, you get the idea of what the days and days of negative temperatures can do. This was the first time that we have visited and the water way out on the lake was frozen.

If you look close you will see a man walking out on the ice of Lake Superior to go fishing. It was very foggy on our Valentine day visit to Lake Superior, making for some unique photos.

The storms on Lake Superior can become very strong, making for high waves. You can see in this photo how the power of the water pushed this beach sand up on the boardwalk.

Our pal Ernie came along with us too. He loves visiting the beach.

After our hike on the beach, we visited Anchor Bar, Superior, Wisconsin.

My husband had wanted to visit for awhile, but it is a busy place. The other times we planned to stop in there was a line outside. This time we were able to get two seats at the bar. They have a simple menu, burgers, all kinds of toppings for your burger and fresh cut fries.

Lake Superior memorabilia to look at throughout the bar.

Our next stop was to find a ski resort for our son's.

The ski resort  is located in Wisconsin, but you have to drive into Minnesota to get on the road that leads you back into Wisconsin to get to the ski resort.

I wanted to take a peek at the St. Louis River, the river that gives Wisconsin and Minnesota the up north border.

Time to head back to home sweet home.

It was a fun adventure.

  1. That does sound like a nice, albeit, cold adventure! The picture of the guy walking on the lake is a bit eerie looking with the fog and everything. Cool though! Ernie is just so cute and I can see how he'd like the beach. The restaurant sounds good- gotta love a themed restaurant and with fresh cut fries to boot? WINNER!!

  2. How strange that you have to drive into MN to get to a ski resort in WI. Lake Superior is the most wicked of our lakes for sure. Then comes Michigan and Huron. My mom lives along Lake Huron so I have seen this lake many many times and swam in it. I have seen all of the Great Lakes. So glad you are able to continue date night. That bar looked cool too and glad you were able to get in this time. Janice

  3. Sounds like a nice day out. Your little dog is cute and looks like he had fun too. It's kind of cool to be able to walk out on the lake, but I don't know if I could handle that kind of cold anymore. I'm ready for spring here, and we got a tease this weekend, but it's a cold Monday once again. Have a nice week!

  4. Wow that is amazing of how frozen Lake Superior gets. The bar looks cool. Little Ernie is just loving his new rescue parents and life. He hit the jackpot when he found you. I love our Friday date nights. We have been doing them for years. It is a great way to re connect. I am glad you and Jeremy are on date 7. Wishing many more fun dates. Hugs. Kris

  5. Woah, I don't think I've seen a frozen Lake with all the "movement" in the frozen water. That's crazy. There is nothing like fresh cut fries, yum!

  8. Lake Superior is so pretty even with the lake being frozen. That photo of the man reminded me of Jesus out on the waters when His Apostles were on the boat through a storm. That photo is very unique, Carla. I love the pic of little Ernie exploring. That bar looks festive with all the items on the wall, and the food sounds delicious. Have a good last week of February. Where do the months go? ; )

  10. These photos are amazing! Such beautiful scenery, even if it was so cold! I hope that man going out onto the lake to fish knows for sure the ice is solid! That would make me nervous! It's so interesting to see the waves actually frozen in place! Love your Doggie too. Looks like a perfect day!!!

  11. I have never seen such a thing. It looks like the water froze mid-wave!! Really cool! Gosh, that person way out there is so scary. So many people fall through the ice.

  13. What a great idea. That water with the ice chunks look so cool. I always wonder what a snow covered beach would be like in person.

  14. That looked like a fun adventure and day date. Yay for Ernie coming along. I love the photo of him on the log. It's so interesting to see all of the frozen water and beaches. We love sitting at the bar and getting some food. That place looked cool and so did the ski resort. I can never get over people walking out on ice!

  17. Yay for number 7!! You're on a roll! That's crazy that the lake is frozen so far out. Our harbors look the same and I honestly don't remember them being that way in decades. Ps...how cute is Ernie?

  19. You took some really nice pictures. The one of the piece of driftwood (underneath the picture of your dog) looks like a horse's head to me.
