Hello Friends,
It is Wednesday and that means it is time for the Hodgepodge!
April 7th is National Beer Day
We have a question about beer in the Hodgepodge today. I am sharing photos above of a past Mother's Day with our boys at Leinenkugel's.
Alright, roll on with the Hodgepodge.
Joyce asks the questions.
We answer the questions.
1. Egg on your face, putting all your eggs in one basket, a good egg, walk on eggshells, nest egg, or a tough egg to crack...which eggy idiom currently applies to your life in some way? Explain
I am going to go with "a good egg" ... my PT guy encouraged me to try an eight week exercise program to help me gain some strength that I have lost. It is called Slow Burn. I was a good egg and signed up for the class.
2. April 7th is National Beer Day...are you a beer drinker? If so do you have a favorite? Beer battered fish, beer bread, beer can chicken, beer brats...which one sounds good to you? Have you made any of these?
I do enjoy a beer every once in awhile. My husband enjoys Leinenkugel's. I will say the Leinenkugel's Juicy Peach is very refreshing on a hot summer's day.
I like beer battered fish, beer can chicken and beer brats.
My husband will grill me a beer can chicken every year.
Grill season will start this week in our neck of the woods, I cannot wait.
3. Do you have siblings? What's the best thing about being your sibling? If you don't have siblings, what would you say are the pros and cons of being an only child?
I have a younger sister. It is great to have family you can count on when in time of need.
4. How do you feel about floral scents in products? Do you have a favorite?
I like lavender. I have a lavender lotion that I love to use in the evening when getting ready for bed.
5. What's one thing in your home that begins with the letter G that you would say is a keeper, something you'll hold on to? Tell us why.
Our grill ... can you tell I am getting excited for grilling season. We do not grill year around. When the grill comes back out on the deck, it is like opening day of baseball around here.
My husband does all the grilling. He uses a charcoal grill. He is a master with charcoal. It has been fun to watch how he has taught our son's to use a charcoal grill.
6. Insert your own random thought here.

Happy Easter!

Your cake is darling! I love the nest egg and the view from the top to see that gorgeous ribbon effect piping. I'll bet it tasted great, too! "Grill" is a great G word. I didn't even think of it nor did AI help me out with it!! So excited for you guys to start grilling. We did charcoal grilling growing up. Love that smell! Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteThe cake!! I love it...I was waiting for the unveiling! You always come up with such great ideas. We're waiting for grill weather, too. It needs to warm up a bit though, still so cold here. My G word would be my girls! Haha. I'd like to keep them around my house forever, but speaking of nests...well, you know! 😉 Xo
ReplyDeleteI love this years cake Carla. Super cute. I look forward to seeing the cake each year. This one is amazing and so so pretty. The picture of you and your sister is adorable. Ahhh the memories. Hope you had a wonderful Easter. Hugs. Kris
ReplyDeleteI was wondering when we would see that Easter cake. Lovely as usual and it looked so yummy. Chocolate...my favorite. We have always like Leinenkugel's Canoe Peddler, but cannot seem to find it anymore here. A favorite "G" word for me would be our grill too. Cannot wait for Bob to bring it out. Janice
ReplyDeleteOh your cake is adorable and I bet it tastes so good! I like beer. About once a year I will enjoy a beer with Mexican food. So what's on the grill for opening day?
ReplyDeleteHooray! We get to see this year's Easter Cake. I like it. Grill is a great G to come up with. We grilled steaks yesterday. I like lavender, too. Have a beautiful Wednesday!
ReplyDeleteYour cake is amazing.
ReplyDeleteFirst, I have to say the chocolate cake LOOKS AMAZING! Yum. Egg on my face? lol I tend to learn from my mistakes, so that's not as bad as it sounds. I don't drink beer too often, but I do enjoy one every now & again. I have an older brother, just by 13 months - I'm grateful I grew up with a sibling. Scents, oof that's tricky - I tend to love and then get sick of the smell quite quickly.
ReplyDeleteWe grill mostly year round, although this year winter was more wintery than normal so there was less grilling. When we lived in the UK my hubs co-workers thought it was hilarious that we grilled so much. Your cake is beautiful! I love the piping! Happy opening day!!
ReplyDeleteI remember Leinenkugel's from Wisconsin. I haven't had the juicy peace. Good for you taking that class. I certainly could use one. Glad you like those beer battered meals. I've never had any. Sweet photo of you and your sister. Yes, lavender can be nice. We can grill year round and we like it. Your Easter cake is adorable. Have a lovely day.
ReplyDeleteI love the cake!! And I love lavender. always have. But not in food! I only like beer in cooking.
ReplyDeleteAwe... I love your Easter 2026 cake. Adorable. My dad always cooked with charcoal and oh how I miss it...More and more, people are cooking with pellets and grills, but you can't beat a big steak cooked over charcoal. Sweet picture of you and your sister...
ReplyDeleteI sometimes use lavender essential oils in my diffuser. I love that cake and I get it tasted really good too!
ReplyDeleteI like a cold beer after cutting the lawn in the summer.
ReplyDeleteYour 2026 Easter cake is beautiful and I bet the eggs will be gone before they have a chance to hatch, lol.
Happy Easter time.
Hugs,
Julia
Yes, Leinie's is great. I also LOVE Spotted Cow. I don't drink beer very often, but it tastes delish on a hot summer day! Thanks for the reminder about the scent of Lavender and how it can be relaxing. Your Easter cake is impressive. I hope you had a very Happy Easter!
ReplyDeleteYou outdid yourself again with your Easter cake! Amazing!! I missed National Beer Day..oh well! I do like an IPA every once in awhile. You're getting me excited about grilling season. That photo of you and your sister is so cute!
ReplyDeleteI hope the Slow Burn class is going well.
ReplyDeleteI am not a fan of beer but a Juicy Peach one does sound good, especially on a hot day! Have fun grilling! Yum to that cake!!
The cake is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteYour 2026 Easter cake is beautiful. I can tell you put a lot of hard work into the decorations.
ReplyDeleteI have two brothers and two sisters and they are all true blessings in my life, the best connection to my past and my memories, a gift to my present.

All of you better get your preps and shelter ready, now that the US sabotaged the peace talks in Pakistan it'll be bombs away again in Tel Aviv. Bibi and Trump are hell bent on torching the planet.
DeleteI'm so excited that grilling season is almost upon us!
ReplyDeleteI love your answers. I am envious of your husband's grilling techniques. I am the 'griller' at our house. I love a Weber grill but here I have to use gas so that has been a learning curve. We have rain coming for the next 5 or 6 days so I guess our grill won't come out until at least next weekend.
ReplyDeleteYour cake looks rich and decadent. YUM. xo Diana
Such a cute Easter cake! And I love that photo of you and your sister!:)
ReplyDeleteI love the pictures! haven't seen your boys in such a long time. That's a great picture of you!
ReplyDeleteCute cake, the only thing missing is a marzipan robin.
ReplyDeleteHello! The picture of you and your sister is precious! And the cake!!!!! I love it!
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed your answers. The Easter cake is so pretty!!
ReplyDeleteYour Cake is fabulous! I wish I had a piece. The photo of you and your sister is darling.
ReplyDeleteI like to grill but never grilled with charcoal. I just don’t know how.
Happy new week. xxoo
I remember that dear picture of you and your sister. It is such a treasured photo. Your Easter cake! That is awesome, Carla! The little bird nest on top is delightful. How creative your 2026 cake turned out. Lavender is one of the best scents for sure. That's so good of dad to teach the sons about grilling. I'm still in awe with that cake! ; )
