Winter is Here to Stay and so is the Hodgepodge

Hello Everyone, it is Wednesday and that means it is the Hodgepodge.
Joyce asks the questions.
We answer the questions.
A visitor under the bird feeder.

1. January is National Mentoring Month. Have you ever had a mentor? Been a mentor? How would you rate the experience?

Yes, I have a mentor. This is Marv. I have shared many stories about him on The River. I met Marv long ago. We met at the library. He asked me a question about an insurance agency in our Village, he was new to the area. We became fast friends. I learned that he had a passion for gardening.
For the past four years he has been my gardening mentor. We have gardened side by side at the community gardens for four years. It has been a blessing.

 2. What current trend makes no sense to you?

I will say self driving cars.   This self driving cars thing has me concerned. Maybe it is because I live in a rural area. I just can not see the self driving car handling Northwest Wisconsin roads very well. We have pot holes the size of swimming pools! You have to go into the other lane to avoid one of those. We also have deer, bear, more deer, rabbits, turkeys, more deer, cats, dogs, squirrels, did I mention deer that dart in front of you so fast that well, you have got to really be watching and have your passenger watching for critters as well, especially when night driving.

 3. I saw a cartoon on facebook highlighting a few 'weird' things that make you happy as an adult. The list included-writing with a nice pen, having plans cancelled, freshly cleaned sheets, eating the corner brownie, cleaning the dryer lint screen, and sipping coffee in that brief time before anyone else wakes up. (Credit for the cartoon goes here) Of the 'weird' things listed which one makes you happiest? What is one more 'weird' thing you'd add to the list?

 I love fresh sheets.
I love LOVE love to vacuum. I consider it therapy.

4. What's the last good thing you ate?

My husband made me fresh blueberry waffles, loaded with butter and real Wisconsin Maple Syrup.

 5. Describe life in your 20's in one sentence.

We were newlyweds, lived far from family and friends.

 6. Insert your own random thought here.

  2. Carla-It sounds like you have a wonderful mentor in your life! How great is that. I bet you have mentored him in some ways, too.

I agree- those self-driving cars would end up in a ditch in WI...or wrecked after hitting a deer! xo Diana

  4. We have way too many deer around here for self driving cars! Those waffles sound SO good! I'm on a waffle kick lately. I love hearing about Marv! What a blessing to have met him. I haven't seen any bunny or squirrels with our arctic weather but the foxes have been much more noticeable lately. So cute!

  6. What a cute picture of your little birdwatcher!! I, too, am concerned about the self driving cars. It would make me nervous to take control out of my hands. And you have a really valid point about the potholes!

  10. I certainly can't imagine self driving cars on the Wisconsin roads we know either. Frightening concept!

  11. I always enjoy reading the hodgepodge answers and one of these days maybe I'll remember to join in. I sure am not too excited about the prospect of self driving cars. We also have too many critters darting onto the roads here. I had a deer do several thousand dollars damage to my car several years ago and we've had headlights busted out by them. A raccoon put a huge dent in the lower part of my front fender when he darted out in front of me a few months ago. I hate killing animals but they are so quick that you can't avoid them sometimes. Your breakfast sounds yummy! I haven't had waffles in awhile.

  12. Yep I won't be getting a self driving car. There is so much traffic in London I can't believe they will keep you safe. Loving vacuuming? Definitely weird lol. Enjoyed your post Carla.

  13. Love your post Carla. Yep self driving cars is a big concern for me too! Love that you and Marv become fast friends and share your love of gardening. Precious life friendship for sure. LOL I love to vacuum it is my therapy too! My hubby wanted to get me a robot vacuum and I said no way I love to vacuum myself lol! Your hubby is a keeper for sure if he puts lots of butter on the homemade blueberry waffles! Yum and love all on one plate! Have a great rest of the week.
    Hugs,
    Kris

  14. I think the self driving cars are so far outside of my ability to imagine how many on the roads would work out that I don't give it a lot of thought. I'm sure they're coming though and can see where something like that could benefit the elderly or handicapped especially. Homemade blueberry waffles-yum!

  15. I'm with you on the self-driving cars! Regarding weird things: I don't LOVE to do laundry, but I like it. Maybe we can swap: You can come and vacuum for me, and I'll visit you and do your laundry. LOL.

  16. I hate the idea of self-driving cars. I do love the bunny under the bird feeder. It looks very cold there.

  17. I have never been enamored with gardening. My dad was and loved to putter around. That particular gene must have skipped me.
I am with you on the self driving car issue. I do not envision me ever riding in one. I'm noticing a consensus forming among other Hodgepodgers. Clean sheets seems to be a big deal. Who knew?
My furnace has been repaired and is now working properly you'll be happy to know. Thank you for visiting my blog page and leaving a comment.

  18. I always love reading the Hodgepodge posts and playing along in my head. And I'm with you when it comes to self driving cars. I don't see it doing too well in NYC either...
