Thank you to all that have sent best wishes our way as our son Sam ventured off to Basic Training this week. The adventure for Sam began on Wednesday when storms in the Midwest were causing all kinds of flight delays and cancellations.
Wednesday morning we headed off to Eau Claire to meet with Sam's Drill Sergeant and receive a brief of what will happen as Sam heads into training.
Sam's flight was to leave at 1pm. We said our goodbyes and waited to watch the plan take off. The flight was delayed to 3:30 due to weather in Chicago. We had a few more hours with Sam.
He did depart for Chicago at 3:30, once in Chicago, his flight to Columbia was cancelled. He stayed over night in Chicago. The USO helps all military and Sam was able to get a room for the night and a good meal. The next morning he flew out of Chicago on his way to Washington DC to Columbia, South Carolina.
Once he is at base, we will receive a packet in the mail letting us know Sam's address to send him mail, information on graduation details and more.
Thank you again to all of you for the encouragement during this new season for me and for our son. We do appreciate you all.
♥
Carla

Oh Carla, it's so hard to say goodbye and watch that plane leave. I've been through that a few times. Sam is such a special boy. I love how close you are to your boys. You have a good family. That is absolutely the most beautiful sunflower!!! Love, Henny
ReplyDeleteGood Morning Carla. Sam did not get a great send off with all the storm delays. I guess this is his first lesson on patience and seeing some things are out of anyone's control. I am happy to hear he made it safely. Sounds like he is in good hands. Hugs my friend I know this is a hard transition for all of you. Like I have said before I promise this is going to get better and your beautiful son is going to carve out a journey in life of unbelievable adventures. You are going to see your beautiful little human being you raised make a difference in this world.
ReplyDeleteI know as a mom that saw two daughters leave our nest it is heart wrenching to let them go. Only advice is that they will make you proud and you will see good things for Sam's future. Big hugs. Kris
Sorry he had flight trouble but I'm glad you got a few more hours with him. Take care and God Bless all of you.
ReplyDeleteHe has some adventures ahead, that's for sure. And you've raised him to be a hard worker so he'll do well!
ReplyDeleteIt's a whole new chapter for you and a challenging one. My first day of service (it is mandatory around here) the bus had a puncture and I was late as well :-)

Hello, I went by to say hello, since I've been disconnected from everything for a long time. As always I love your work. That I still think that they are not chapucillas, but great works. A kiss.
