The Forge

 The Victory Forge

If you are a regular reader of The River, you know our son, Sam has been in Basic Training at Fort Jackson, South Carolina. He is in his final test, The Forge.

Sam is now in the Forge.
My sister gifted our family the candles to burn during this final test for Sam.

Prayers for Sam!

May he do well and complete the task before him.

I will be honest, I had a hard weekend. I just wanted to hug him. Talk to him, meet his battle buddies, meet his Drill Sergeants and so much more. I have had a few cries this weekend and a few more Monday.
Thank you for the prayers my dear family, friends and blog buddies.

  1. It really is tough being a mother of all boys...I know! I'm keeping him in my prayers. He'll do great and I know you'll be proud! What a blessing to have these young men here in our country to protect us!

  2. Dear Carla, I think it will be harder on you than on Sam. Your prayers are powerful and he will be all right. I'll include him in my prayers and ask St Padre Pio to take care of him and keep him safe on his last test of endurance.
    Big hugs my friend.

  3. I am thankful for brave and dedicated soldiers like Sam. I pray for him, and for you, Carla.

  4. What a beautiful gift Carla! I will be praying for you all. Being a mom is so difficult, but it seems to get more difficult when we can't physically hug or touch our children every day while they are away. I still struggle with it and my oldest has lived in Florida since he was 19...he just turned 35! Love and hugs to you sweet friend!

  5. I wish him all the best. Those candles are such a lovely gift. I will be praying for Sam.

  6. Love the candles, Carla. What a great way to feel close and send support. I can't even imagine what you must be feeling. Being the mom of a recent high school grad myself, I know that there's a lot of talk lately of Parents's Weekends and Homecoming visits where meeting the friends and getting a feel for their daily life is possible. It must be hard to hear about it all in letters, but not be able to hug and hold him or be a physical part of his current world. Soon...xxoo Hugs to you.

  7. I have been praying for him. And also praying for peace for you. The candle is so special!! Your sister could not have gotten a better gift.

  8. I hope all goes well and you hear from him soon x

  9. I can well imagine it is tough.
The candles are a very nice gift.

I do hope all goes well for Sam, prayers for all the family.

    My good wishes

    All the best Jan

  10. Carla, Please tell Sam when you get the chance, that we are so proud of him. That forge looked like a tough thing to get thru. He is in my prayers. As are you and your family. My heart aches for you honey. Blessings and hugs, xoxo, Susie

  11. He will do well. what a lovely gift to receive. Not long till you can hug him either!!

  12. No worries Sam is going to make you proud. Love that candle you were gifted. Prayers for Sam and for all of you waiting for the great news on him passing this last leg of his basic training. Good Luck Sam.

  13. I hope you hear from him soon so you can rest easy. What a beautiful gift from your sister.
    Prayers for your family.

  14. Keeping my fingers crossed for Sam. And sending a big strong hug to you, until you can hug him.
