The Rest of the Story

Do you remember the color of the month for November? Black, and I shared some cuteness, with little black chicks that grew into big black and white hens. At that time I shared there was more to the story.

The rest of the story is.. during the lock down, there was not an egg to be found in our county. We have been tossing around the idea of getting chickens for awhile. Well, when my husband could not have his fried egg in the morning, that was it. We ordered five chickens from our Farm and Fleet store. The chicks arrived May 15th.

My husband built the coop in the photo below. I will share a post on the coop build in the coming weeks.

We named our sweet hens, Lolly, Polly, Molly, Holly and Dolly.

Not only do we have farm fresh eggs.

I have great fertilizer for my gardens.

Merry Christmas

  3. This is so neat. Love the names of all of your chicks! I prefer fresh laid eggs over the store bought ones. I would love to have a chicken house and hens, but I'm too afraid of snakes!! Merry Christmas

  7. You guys are so cute with your chicks and congrats on raising them and now you have fresh eggs. I have had fresh eggs in the past and I have to say they do taste so much better than store bought that are older. Love their names. xoxo Kris

  9. What a cute story. I had to laugh at the chicken's name. What came to mind is Lollipop song. I bet they would come running if they heard that old song. Nothing like knowing where your food comes from. Wishing you the best of luck with raising your chicken. There are so many benefits.

I love the Christmas photo. Thanks for sharing.
    Stay safe and well.
    Hugs, Julia

  16. I have been so fortunate to get eggs at the store every time. In fact, we have enough for baking as well. I'm glad your husband can have his fried egg for breakfast now. I was just about to make a fried egg and toast. Carla, this is a wonderful Christmas photo of both of you. : )

  20. This post tickled me so much! FIRST ... those darling black chickies! Black is my favorite color and they were (as babies) so perfectly black! And then to grow up to be black and white! Blanc Noir is my favorite color scheme of all. And their names! Just wonderful. I happen to love names that end in the "lly" sound! And I bet those eggs are scrumptious. What a honey of a chicken coop too! Good job, Jeremy. xoxo
