When Crime Hits Home

The Web of Crime Hits Small Town America

Hello Friends,

Have any of you been robbed?

Do you ever feel the same after?

Your personal items stolen, your notes, your written thoughts, your gear.. taken.. not to be seen again.

Sadly, this happened to our military son this past weekend. His car was broken into and the thieves took his National Guard Duffel bag. It is a big deal. He has his gear in the duffel bag, gear that keeps him safe during drill and times of deployment.

Going on the Defense

I do not have much more to say regarding this situation, but that is makes me sad and sick to my stomach for many reasons.

As I sign off today, I look to my  friends for counsel.  How to feel safe? The robbery did not even happen to me, but my defense is up.

  1. Carla I am so sorry this happened to Sam. You do feel so violated when someone could do something like this. I agree with you it is sad that we have to live in a world where our defenses have to be up all the time. We all work so hard for the things we have in life and when someone comes along and just decides to take what we worked hard to have is sickening. I hope Sam can replace the bag and things he needs. I am so sorry. xoxo Kris

  2. Terrible. I have been stolen from, a big ticket item, but that was in San Diego. Just a few weeks ago, I had an unsettling experience. I wonder now about security doors or camera? Have alarm. The problem these things go to non emergency. But they were trespassing so I could have called emergency, but how long, not good, because that would be low on priority... I was told to put a no trespassing sign, but I need a new one, because someone "borrowed" it. LOL

  4. I am so sorry that this has happened to Sam and I can understand how it must hurt you and him. I hope that he will be able to replace his stolen gears that but his personal things might be irreplaceable.
What a sad thing to have had his car broken into.

We have had a bike taken from the front of the garage when the kids were teens, then we have had a brand new jack hammer stolen in front of the barn. Because we didn't had yet written down the serial number and model, we were unable to report it missing for recovery. It was most likely sold in a pawn shop, then we had a whole set of acetylene tanks that we rented and all the equipment for welding in the machine repair shop that belonged to my husband for repairing farm equipment. All done under cover of darkness. That is not a small thing to carry away. It was certainly very disturbing and also very inconvenient as farm machinery breaks down so often, especially during haying season.

One thing I know, thieves keep on stealing until they are caught and put in jail.
Lets hope that they will get caught with identifiable stolen merchandise.

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.

  5. Oh no!! I have never had this happen to me, or any of my family, but I can't imagine the different upsetting emotions over a theft. I will say that given the stories we hear lately, we have been taking precautions that we didn't used to feel were needed.
I hope Sam can get the items replaced in time before they are needed.

  6. I'm so sorry to hear about this Carla. It seems the ugliness of the world around us is closing in, closer each day. I am praying that your son recovers his bag, but more importantly, that his heart heals from dealing with the unpleasantness of this situation!

  7. You have to be pretty low to steal from the National Guard!!! What a shame.

  8. So sorry to hear this Carla. I hope Sam can replace his things. Living in London we're very aware of crime - never leave anything of value in the car overnight etc. We have an alarm for our house which we can put on at night too. But yes it is unsettling. Sending a virtual hug.

  9. I'm so sorry this happened to Sam, Carla. We feel deeply for our children, and when they hurt, we hurt along with them. You must be so upset with this, and also worried. Saying a prayer for you and your family, dear friend.

  10. So sorry this happened to him.

Understand why your defense is up!!!!!!!

Logically, we all should make a habit of, listening to our gut instinct. All the time. Crime does not leave a calling card, saying I will strike at such-and-such a time.

Always be alert to messages from our gut instinct.

Which may tell us, how not to be a target. Walk with purpose. Don't leave valuables where they can be seen. Etc.

    Courage!

    🌷🌺🌷Gentle hugs🌷🌺🌷

  11. Oh this is horrible. I had a friend whos granddaughter was robbed. She is in the Navy. No one should have to fear that they will be robbed. I have always been told if you do something wrong, something bad will happen to you twofold. Lets hope the bad guy(s) get what they deserve. What is this world coming to. Hope Sam is safe. Janice

  12. It's so heartbreaking when something like this happens, and you never see it coming which makes it a hundred times worse. I pray the Lord will heal your son's heart and yours too. xoxo

  13. What terrible times we live in, and yet, I know this kind of behavior has been going on forever. My sister worked a local fast food restaurant in the 70's, in high school, and was robbed at gunpoint...in our very small town. It was very traumatic for all of us. It's a hard feeling to shake once you have that sense of safety taken away. Sending big hugs to you. xo

  15. It's tough to feel safe after something like that happens. I would just pray through it and remember that God didn't create us with a spirit of fear...something you've told me recently, LOL! Please keep us posted. I hope the police find the thief or thieves.
