Goodbye July and it is the Hodgepodge

Goodbye July and it is the Hodgepodge.

Joyce asks the questions.

We answer the questions.

 1. On July 29th 1957 The Tonite Show premiered with Jack Parr as it's host. This marked the beginning of the modern day talk show. Do you watch any daytime or late night talk shows today? Do you have any thoughts on the hubbub surrounding the cancellation of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, or are you more in the camp of 'who is Stephen Colbert?

Last week I had to share with the world that I have never been on a roller coaster. This week I will share with the world I have no idea who Stephen Colbert is.

No daytime or late night talk shows for me.

 2. What's the best part of your day?

I love going for our daily walk. My husband and I walk together, we try to do this daily. We talk about current events, family, friends, weather and dreams we plan to reach for.

 3. What's something your generation does that you actually dislike?

I do not know... hopefully I will learn something reading others answers.

 4. When you cook do you clean as you go, or clean it all up once you're finished cooking? What's the last thing you cooked/baked in your own kitchen?

I clean up all at once.

I made fresh coleslaw, with vegetables from our garden.

5. Sum up your July in ten words or less.

Home Improvements

Home improvements the theme for our July 2025.

 6. Insert your own random thought here.

Our son Sam purchased his first home.

We helped on moving day.

We helped with home improvements the weeks after moving in.

The house is located in a great neighborhood.

I know many happy memories will be made here.

  4. Wow, congrats on the first home - it looks really nice! I clean as I go, I get overwhelmed with clutter. No talk shows for me, no matter the time of day. Breakfast, soft boiled egg on avocado toast.

  6. Oh how exciting for Sam! You are fortunate that he will be living nearby (our kids live in the Madison area, so we're fortunate, too). I agreed with you on most of your answers, although we are late-night TV watchers. I find that I go to sleep earlier than I used to, especially in the summer, but I enjoy watching the opening monologues...we mainly watch Stephen Colbert or Jimmy Kimmel. The story surrounding the ending of the former is interesting, but too complicated for a comment. ;-)

  9. What a beautiful house! Congratulations to your son.
I’m familiar with Steven Colbert, though I’ve never had the desire to watch his show; it simply doesn’t pique my interest. The last late-night host I truly followed was Johnny Carson, and for me, none of the successors have quite matched the charm and charisma he brought to late-night. Of course, I was in my 20s and 30s when I would watch him back then.

  10. Congratulations to you son on his new home. It is always so good to see our children purchase their first home. Like you Carla, I never watch the late show and I am not familiar with Steven Colbert. I never even watch Johnny Carson. I'm usually in bed by 9:00 so no time for these late shows. I'm hoping to start walking but most likely not until the temps drop.

  12. This is a really lovely home!! I used to watch the Jack Parr show in the 50's. What I dislike about the current generation is when they keep scrolling on their cell phones when visiting or eating together!

  14. I believe he is on very late at night. I don't watch him. I'm so happy you two walk together. Home improvements are never fun but they are definitely necessary. No way, Sam bought a house. How exciting. It looks lovely. Congratulations!!!

  17. I love walks with my husband too, and wish we had the time to do it every day, or at least more often than we do. What a great "best part of your day"!
