Hello November Hodgepodge

We are starting to get cold here in Wisconsin. The smell of wood smoke is in the air.

It is the first Wednesday of  November and it is time for the Hodgepodge.

Joyce asks the questions.

We answer the questions.

Click here to join the fun!

1. Besides Thanksgiving, something on your November calendar you're looking forward to?

We have a house project that needs doing, I am not looking forward to the mess. But I am looking forward to our son's coming to help.

2. Dictionary.com's word of the year is '6-7'. Huh?

Is it even a word??? I had to consult the internet to find out it's meaning because apparently I'm old and this particular slang is not part of my vocabulary. Is it part of yours? According to the article I read, it's a viral term, more of an inside joke with an unclear meaning driven by social media.

What do you think?

Dictionary. com says it's selection each year is a 'linguistic time capsule reflecting social trends and events, but they also admitted to being confused by '6-7'. Some say it means so-so and is sometimes accompanied by the up and down hand motion we associate with the phrase so-so.

What word do you think would have made a better choice?

Ha Ha ... well I have no idea just like you Joyce. I apparently am old too or old fashioned, when we lived in a world when words were words.  I will stay in that old fashioned world.

Call me a fuddy - duddy I do not care.

Ha Ha!

What would I pick for the word of the year?

Turmoil

Our world continues to be in a state of turmoil.

 3. What's a food, trend, activity, or thing people love but you think is just so-so?

I tried a bubble tea for the first time, I was not impressed.

 4. Are you a tea drinker? Hot or cold? How do you like yours and at what time of day? Do you like flavored teas or teas billed as calming, energizing, healing, etc?

I love tea. I like both hot or cold. I drink a hot tea daily, in the afternoon, usually around 1:30 pm. I enjoy a black tea with honey. Lady Grey tea is a favorite of mine.

I also have a cup of hot tea at night. I enjoy peppermint or a ginger tea at night.

5. The November Hodgepodge has always included a weekly gratitude question. Here's the question for today-what are three things that make your heart sing?

♥ my family

♥ my friends

♥ my faith

 6. Insert your own random thought here.

We are just about done buttoning up for winter.

My checklist..

Washed the greenhouse.  √

Put a layer of mulch on the raised beds and other gardens.  √

Planted garlic, tulips and daffodils.  √

Water hoses drained and put up. √

Emptied and cleaned pots.  √

  1. Good Morning sweet friend. We are getting cooler here too. Possible rain snow mix on Sunday ugh! Here we go. My little squirrels I give peanuts to are also running to hide them for their winters treat. So another sign it is coming. Have a great rest of the week. Hugs. Kris

  4. You know I don't think that I've ever had bubble tea. It sound kinda odd so I'm not pining to try it! I do like warm tea quite a bit and it sounds like you do, too :). Good job on all of your garden tasks. I still have peppers on plants!! But it's going to all end this weekend. Anyway, I'm also going to plant garlic before next week. I've never done that before. Please send any pointers you can think of my way!

  5. I'm happy to be a fuddy duddy, too. :) Hooray for son coming to help with a project. I love it when our boy show up to help! I need to do some serious work on our planters. Ugh. November clearing jobs snuck up on me. Happy day to you!

  6. I hope the project on the house goes well but how great to have your sons home to help.
I am not a fan of bubble tea either, I tried it once and the texture was not for me.
It sounds like you are very organised with your garden. You have just reminded me that I need to drain and put the hosepipe away.

  8. Thay smell of smoke sounds refreshing. We never get that here. Hope your project goes well and enjoy your time with the boys. Yes, that '6-7' is weird. So true about the turmoil. I've never even heard of thst tea. Beautiful answer for #5. Wow, you accomplished so many things. Way to go! Love the statement on the Dove wrapper.

  11. You've been busy but sounds like you're ready for cold weather. We're supposed to have a freeze on Sunday. I'm drinking tea right now : ) Good luck with your project! How nice to have sons to help.

  12. I've never had bubble tea but one of my co-workers loves it. The weather man is actually predicting really cold (for us) temps for Monday -- high in the 40's and low in the 20's. My husband has to go to the farm house (a couple of hours away) to drain the water (plumbing) to keep it from freezing.

  15. Oh Carla, I loved when you said,.....when we lived in a world when words were words. Some of them today I just don't get. I love tea too, and I've been having peppermint at night as well. I hope your house project goes well. Having your sons there to help makes all the difference, doesn't it? And your DOVE wrapper saying is absolutely delightful! I didn't see those orange Dove's this year.

Have a blessed November week, Carla.

  16. Getting cold here in Ohio too. But, right now the sun is out so your picture looks much colder. November is my Darling Daughters Birthday which was on election day. My BD is in a couple of weeks, and having our daughter come home for about a week around Thanksgiving is giving me something to look forward to. Not the actual Thanksgiving...the noise and chaos bother me. I'm enjoying visiting everyone on my blog list to catch up, as I've been away from blogging for too many months, and it's nice getting back into it.

  17. You did a lot in the garden! I just heard of 6-7 too and I'm still confused. I don't think I'll be using it. I hope your November project isn't too much of a pain.At least your sons will be helping!! I've been doing some painting jobs before I start seriously decorating for the holidays. I love smelling wood smoke, especially since we don't have a wood burning fireplace anymore. I'm still searching for a candle that smells exactly like that. I have a pretty good one. I can't believe it's November!

  18. I'm still not sure why the 6-7 thing is a thing, haha. I agree on Bubble tea, and Nutella - in theory I should like it. I like chocolate and hazelnuts -but I don't it made into a frosting? Traveling to see parents and relatives in November is probably what I'm looking forward to.

  20. I love tea, too (and coffee). Earl Grey is best. And I drink lots of herbal teas.
You are so ahead of me on buttoning up the garden. Maybe tomorrow??

  21. Yes how can 6-7 be classed as words? lol. I'm glad you're on top of your winter preparations. Our kids in Vermont have already had snow this week!
