| We like squash. |
Hello Friends, it is Wednesday and that means it is time for the Hodgepodge.
Joyce asks the questions.
We answer the questions.
1. Let's do our gratitude question first this week...what's the best thing about your home, and have you taken time to enjoy it lately?
I love our kitchen, we did a make over of our kitchen in 2022. We put in a gas range. I love, love cooking on gas. Yes, I enjoy it daily.
I also love our south facing windows, especially in the winter months. I sit in the afternoon sun and soak it in.
2. Do you like squash? Of the varieties listed, which one's your favorite and how do you like it prepared? Is squash of some sort on your Thanksgiving menu??
acorn, butternut, delicata, spaghetti, zucchini, crookneck (yellow squash), patty pan
We love squash. The above photo is a summer squash called Eight Ball, we make a stuffed squash with this variety. I also love using butternut squash to make a squash soup.
My mom hosts Thanksgiving, in years past she has had squash on the menu.
3. Last time you were 'squashed in' somewhere, or felt squashed?
We were traveling with family and we had three in the backseat, I was one of the three. Yep, I felt squashed.
4. Have you ever played squash? What about other 'racquet sports' such as racquetball, tennis, pickleball, badminton, table tennis (ping pong)? Are these sports something you enjoy?
I have not played squash.
I have played tennis, pickleball, and badminton.
Badminton is my favorite to play.
5. Something in today's society or culture that feels like a 'racket' to you? If you don't like that one, tell us about a place you've been recently where there was a lot of 'racket'.
I can be a Charlie Brown when it comes to how I see Christmas in our society.
It all can get to be a little too much.
Lucy : Look, Charlie, let's face it. We all know that Christmas is a big commercial racket. It's run by a big eastern syndicate, you know.
Charlie Brown: Isn't there anyone who knows what Christmas is all about?
Linus : Sure, Charlie Brown, I can tell you what Christmas is all about.
Linus: Lights, please.
Linus: "And
there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping
watch over their flock by night. And lo, the angel of the Lord came upon
them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were
sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, 'Fear not:"
Linus:
"for behold, I bring unto you good tidings of great joy, which shall be
to all people. For unto you is born this day in the City of David a
Savior, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye
shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.'
And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host,
praising God, and saying, 'Glory to God in the highest, and on earth
peace, good will toward men.'"
Linus: That's what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown.

Dear Carla, I love ❤️ Charlie Brown.
ReplyDeleteYes, LInus - that is what Christmas is all about! Your turkey meme is too cute!
ReplyDeleteWe have a gas range too, I love it. You're squash looks delicious. That's funny about the back seat. I haven't played badminton in years. Christmas has me stressing this year. I have Hallmark ornament where Linus tells that story. Excited no, but I am preparing for it.
ReplyDeleteGas ranges are the best, and what professional cooks use. But I tend to set myself on fire with them, so I have to have electric. I love badminton too!!
ReplyDeleteBadminton is the only sport that I can play reasonably well. That was the sport offered in college (this was a new college so did not have a big PE department). Used to play all the time with our son. Squash looks wonderful.
ReplyDeleteYour kitchen sounds wonderful!
ReplyDeleteBack seats are not meant for adults, my girls and fella found that out a little while ago in the back of my dad's car.
Your turkey meme did make me chuckle.
Oh my goodness that turkey meme! TOO funny and sad for all the lil' turkeys out there. I love those Charlie Brown lines. I am one who gets into the decor side of Christmas a lot- but try not to forget the reason for the season. I´m assuming you grew the squash in the photo above? It looks so good!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great answer for #5! I love Charlie Brown...thanks for sharing! I enjoyed your Hodge Podge answers this afternoon!
ReplyDeleteThat is my all time favorite part of any Christmas special...and I'm a huge Christmas special fan. I play it on my computer often during December. ❤️
ReplyDeleteA great hodge-podge and your squash dish looks delicious.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
That random thought at the bottom is too funny (not for the turkey though).
ReplyDeleteLinus and Charlie Brown--so special and so on-target about the true meaning of Christmas. Cheers!
ReplyDeleteI love all squash too! Loved that Charlie Brown movie. Also loved the turkey meme. Janice
ReplyDeleteI enjoyed a gas range until we moved to the country in 2018. Enjoy yours to the full. A gardener like you should enjoy squash of all kinds! :) Haha...love your random thought!
ReplyDeleteWe have gas hobs but electric ovens. I'd prefer a gas oven but it's what was in the house when we moved here and I've no immediate plans to change things. Love your reminder about Christmas - it's so commercialised now - we even get told when to expect the supermarket "Christmas" commercials to be shown for the first time. Sigh.
ReplyDeleteYes I am getting excited about Thanksgiving though.
I love squash, too. Mostly the fine textured ones, like butternut or delicata. Not spaghetti squash. We did a kitchen reno in the past year, and yes it brings me joy every day. Everything just works so much better. The price at the supermarket feels like a racket right now, how can everything be so much?
