Welcome to the Greenhouse

Hello Friends,

Welcome to my greenhouse. It is busting full at the moment. This week I will start to plant out cold hardy plants. We have some cold nights in our forecast for this week, so I will wait on planting out peppers and tomatoes.

My greenhouse is unheated, just the power of the sun keeps my greenhouse cozy.

I have tired different ways to retain heat in my greenhouse during the cold spring nights. I have pavers as one section of flooring in hopes they heat up during the day and slowly cool down in the evening. I have tried black buckets of water heating in the sun and placing them in the greenhouse at night to slowly cool down.

Soon we should be free of frosty nights up here in Northwest Wisconsin and the growing season will get on the way.

Strawberry plants that I started from last years strawberry plants.

A peek at my lettuce patch.

This is me.. my husband caught me coming out of the greenhouse saying "where am I going to put all these plants?"

We had to downsize our garden last autumn after the growing season for an upcoming garage build. It is hard for me to downsize my garden. I already have been planning just how to squeeze in and save as many plants as I can before the construction starts.

 Welcome to the Greenhouse!!

  1. It truly is hard to start the garden in Spring in the midwest with our crazy weather. I hope now that we are free of really cold temps. Ha Ha you look so cute trying to decide where to put all the plants. Have a great week. Hugs. Kris

  2. It looks like all of your plants are doing so well. I have a couple of little greenhouses and they stay warm the same as yours, with the heat from the sun.

  3. Your greenhouse is wonderful, Carla. I hope everything remains good with those chilly nights you may have this spring. We are also getting a few of them here. Everything looks so green and growing beautifully. I like how your husband got that picture of you coming out of the greenhouse, so cute. Have a blessed week, my dear.

  5. It’s beautiful! Love all of the pictures! How wonderful to have an option for a bountiful harvest even when your outdoor climate isn’t cooperating. We are done with the low temps and fave berm for a couple of weeks which has been wonderful.

  10. Very nice! I use the sunroom and the back porch for the same purpose, but a greenhouse would better accommodate my messy supplies and potting activity. Enjoy!

  15. What a great greenhouse! It is almost 90 degrees here in Alabama today! We did have a night less than a week ago where the low was 49, but I'm sure that was the last one until October.

  16. HI CARLA. YOUR GREENHOUSE LOOKS AMAZING AND YOU HAVE ALREADY SO MANY PLANTS IN THERE. WE ARE HAVING BIG TEMPERATURE SWINGS. VERY HOT AND THEN VERY COLD AND VERY WINDY. EVEN DANGER OF FROST AT NIFGT. I PUT MY PLANTS OUTSIDE AFTER THE TEMPERATURE IS SUITABLE AND NOW I HAVE TO BRING THEM IN THE EVENING BUT IT'S 11:00 AM BEFORE I CAN PUT THEM BACK OUT IN THE MORNING. I PUT MY BUTTERCUP SQUASH AND CUCUMBERS UNDER LIGHT UNTIL IT WARMS UP BUT THEY ARE ALREADY SETTING THEIR SECOND LEAVES. IT THEY FAIL, I'LL PLANT DIRECTLY IN THE GROUND.

I HOPE TO SEEE YOUR GARDEN PROGRESS.
    HUGS, JULIA
