Crash, Boom, Bang
Thank you to all for the well wishes for our basement wall.
I am happy to report our wall is up and our project should be complete by the end of the week.
We prepared over the weekend to have our crew come on Monday.
Our friend Lori was hoping we would find buried treasure.
While tearing out some dry wall in the laundry room, my husband found .52 cents up in the beam of the house. "We are rich!"
Monday, we woke up to SNOW! Because of the weather our crew had to cancel the original plans.

Monday, we woke up to SNOW! Because of the weather our crew had to cancel the original plans.
Our laundry room is along the wall that needed to be prepared for demolition! I have been out of a washing machine and a dryer while waiting for this project to start. Did I ever find out how spoiled I am with my washing machine.
Thursday we woke to sunshine and warmer temperatures as the day continued.
THINGS ARE GOING TO GET LOUD!
The wall came out easy for our crew.
A big scoop!
They used a dump truck to haul away the old rock foundation and old soil.
No buried treasure was found in the hole.
No buried treasure was found in the hole.
A big cement truck coming in.
A new footing was poured. Our contractor hoped to use the original footing. It ended up not being in good shape. Because of that set back, we were not able to lay the brick the same day as opening the house.
Our crew had a cool way of sliding down the brick to each other.
Slide and catch.
Wrapping up the basement for the night.
All day Friday rain was in the forecast.
It did not rain! It was cool and damp. Thankfully, it did not rain.
Saturday and Sunday we enjoyed a beautiful Spring day.
The wall is drying nicely.
Monday our crew plans to put on a water proof coat.
The hole will need to be filled up.
Our driveway will need to be touched up.
Wednesday, I should be back in business with my washing machine.
I might just give it a big kiss!
Thank you again, for the well wishes.
This project was just a wee bit stressful for me.
We had a great crew! We had great weather!
Yippee!
That is some project and no washer and dryer? Yikes! We have been there a few times and it was not pleasant. Hoping you're back in business soon! :)
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness! I bet it was really strange to see your house in that state. I'm glad the project is coming along and think how amazing it will feel to be able to do laundry again! Blessings to you!
ReplyDeleteThere's always something that doesn't go to plan in renovation. I'm glad the wall is up and everything will be good and strong. Rain is interfering with our roofing project.
ReplyDeleteI hope that you've kissed your washing machine and dryer by now.
Good luck with the rest of your project.
Hugs,
JB
Glad to hear you've seen the last of this project! To be without a wall is a problem, without a washing machine, a disaster!!!

So thankful the rain held off that one day it was forecast. I know you look forward to things being back to normal!
ReplyDeleteWow this is a big project. Even though I love the primitive style..I am so spoiled with modern conveniences such as ALL major appliances. Glad the rain held off for you. Janice
ReplyDeleteI can see how this would be stressful for you, Carla. It's a lot of disruption and a really big project. I'm glad things are progressing for you. It will be nice for you to have your laundry back! Hugs, Nancy
ReplyDeleteIt seems it is going fast, but not fast enough, but hopefully you will be able to do laundry by Wednesday. What holds the house up? Are their jacks? Or are their beams holding it up? That's how they build walls between properties here, because wood falls apart.
ReplyDeleteGlad your basement is getting fixed.
ReplyDeleteI bet you had all the boys (big and small) in your neighbourhood watching this take place. So glad it is nearly fixed.
ReplyDeleteWhat a huge undertaking! I know it's exciting for the boys but I'm sure you and hubby will be very glad for it to be done! Can't believe you had snow! oh my! Have a good week. Take lots of pics! Hugs, Diane
ReplyDeleteWow! Scary! I'm glad the fix went well, and hopefully now it's all just a fun story to tell your grandkids someday!
ReplyDeleteWoah this is a major job! I'm sure it has been stressful but you can see the light at the end of the tunnel! You probably will kiss that washing machine!
ReplyDeleteWow! So interesting to see how they tackled it. I hope you enjoy some good quality time with your washer this weeks... One of the many things we take for granted in our lives!
ReplyDeleteCarla,
ReplyDeletewow, so much work going on at your house! I'm so glad to hear it's all going smoothly. I am no stranger to construction projects. My husband has been in the industry for 35 years. Hang in there during the whole process, my friend.

I'm sure that wall is beautiful! Glad to hear that it is all working out for you.
ReplyDeleteIt was a very interesting project, glad the rains held off on Friday. Can't wait to see it all finished.

Oh my goodness! I'm so glad you told me about this project....I love seeing before and after pictures. I hope you share more. Removing a wall is no small project, and I'm so happy to see it turned out so well Carla.
ReplyDeleteSo glad everything worked out with this! What a lot work. The thought of you kissing your washing machine makes me smile!
ReplyDeleteThese pictures are great and remind me of the bowing wall my wife and I had replaced two years ago. The great thing about your crew is how they stayed with the job despite the rain delay. In my case, when I had a rain interruption they moved their men to another job and I had to wait five days before they started. You made a great choice with this team!
