Magic

Magic happened at the TePaske house during the month of August.
We found two monarch caterpillars and watched an amazing magic show unfold.

My sister gifted our boys a Butterfly Garden from Insect Lore click here to visit Insect Lore
many years ago. We raised monarch butterflies in the past. It had been awhile. Feeling nostalgic for little boys (mine are growing up so fast).
I got the Butterfly Garden out of storage and the hunt for monarch caterpillars started. We found two and the boys were so excited. I just loved this, at age 17 and 15 still fascinated with the magic of butterflies. The following photos will be the magic show.

The first butterfly and about 20 minutes later the second.

  1. I remember doing this with my girls. It was so much fun!! My niece asked for it for her birthday and we got it for her too!

  3. Love watching the plants for eggs and seeing how many caterpillars we get. My young cat has taken to catching monarchs over winter, guess they're a bit slow and weatherbeaten. Pity it's not the cabbage butterflies she gets.

  4. A "magic show" is on stage at our house right now! We're waiting patiently for the butterflies to take their bow.

  6. Oh Carla, this truly is magical! Every child should see this process happening before their eyes so that they would grow up planting butterfly gardens and appreciating these beautiful and fragile species.

  8. That is amazing, Carla. I have never seen that happen myself. How great that your teens enjoyed it...there is so little that 'impresses' teens these days. It is fun to see your kids enjoying nature at its best. xo Diana

  10. Love this! We didn't get to hatch ours this Summer but always love seeing the transformation! We've only done painted ladies and have always wanted to hatch monarchs. Pretty amazing! I'll show my girls!
