September Hodgepodge

'Tis the Change of Season's

It is Wednesday and it is time for the Hodgepodge.
Joyce asks the questions.
We answer the question.

1. Is a picture worth a thousand words? Elaborate.

the beauty of nature

I think a picture is worth a thousand words.
Sharing the beauty of nature, the the joy of family having fun and all the other happenings we capture in a picture.

 2. Have you ever driven any part of the Pacific Coast Highway? If so what was your favorite stop? If not, is this sort of trip on your bucket list?

I have not driven any part of the Pacific Coast Highway. Yes, I would love to do this someday.

 3. How do the changing seasons affect you? As the seasons change do you find yourself looking more forward or backward? Which season-season transition bothers you most? Why do you suppose that is?

I am a gardener and my flower business runs on the seasons. The change of season's affects me in how busy I am. In the winter, I will rest and plan for the next planting season. In spring, I prepare and plant my seeds. In summer, I nurture, care and begin to harvest. In autumn, I harvest and put the garden to bed.

Each season I look forward, in my personal life as well as my flower business.

The season-season transition that bothers me the most is Winter to Spring. Winter takes awhile to let go in Wisconsin. I have a terrible time during Mud Season as I call it. I can no longer enjoy winter sports, like cross country skiing because we have mud, snow, slush, oh just a big old mess.
I get stir crazy!! I want instant Spring!

4. It's your birthday and you get to pick the dinner menu. What are we having? Do you ever lie about your age?

Taco's
I love taco bar!!

I have never said a lie about my age.

 5. What's a life lesson you've learned recently?

Our Boston Terrier, Molly, my first dog, is 12 1/2 years old. She is not feeling very well. Recently visiting with Judy at Cranberry Morning
she and Mr. C gave us some good advice regarding Molly.

The time comes when you have done all you can and have to look at the quality of life your pet is living. My husband and I are thankful to have friends who have walked this path before us and will give honest advice.

6.  Insert your own random thought here.

As we remember September 11th.
Please watch this 12 minute documentary, narrated by Tom Hanks.

  1. It is so sad to mourn a pet. Not too long ago, I remember that you lost your kitty to a strange defect. We lost two of our indoor rescues this year, so now there is only Lucy, and the two outdoor ones. I hated having to put them down, but they were really suffering. Jack was such a fighter, always seeming to get a second wind that the decision was even worse than Anya. My dad just put down his twelve year old cokapoo about a month or so ago and he misses him terribly. He was such a hard decision after several surgeries. xoxo Su

  2. Your sweet Molly is adorable. I hope she gets better and you have much more time with her. We had a Boston Terrier when I was little. I loved her so much.

I also like your pictures. The flowers are beautiful, the snowman is cute and you all look like you are having so much fun in the water.

  3. I am so sorry about Molly, I know how hard it is. Especially when you have to make decisions. Your pink and purple flower picture is beautiful!!! I do NOT like to see summer leaving, especially the loss of the light and flowers. Did the snowman belong to you?

  4. I'm sorry to hear Molly isn't feeling well. It's sad when they get older. I'm sure she's had a wonderful life with all of you. I love the seasons too. I agree about winter into spring! I have been on the Pacific Coast Hwy, and while the views were amazing, the girls and I all felt horrible car sick from the twists and turns!! I don't think I'd do it again. I hope you're having a good week!

  5. I'm really sorry about your Molly. Our dog passed away earlier this year. The last few years were difficult, but we hung in there with her knowing we would know how to handle the right time. Thankfully, the Lord took it out of our hands.

  6. So sorry about your sweet Molly. I don't even let myself think about the day with Tucker. Our pets are family and I get a bit testy when I hear someone say something like, "He's just a dog." I won't even tell you my response. I tell Judy all the time how lovely I think your state is. To have 4 definite seasonal changes again would be lovely. We just go from hot to hotter here in the low-country of SC.

  7. It's hard to let pets go but it's part of having responsibilities - having to make the right but sometimes hard choices. I hope you have more time with Molly but sounds like you got good advice about letting her go when the time comes. Instant spring sounds like a good idea.

  8. Your flowers are so beautiful, Carla. And I know they bring cheer to all who receive them! I'm sorry about Molly. And the offer stands, by the way. Hugs to you guys. xo

  9. Sounds like you have your seasons down. I see how mud season can get wearisome. Glad you could get honest advice about your beloved pet. Hope the rest of your week goes well. Visiting from hodgepodge...

  11. Dear Carla, having an old pet, (it seems unfair that they age so fast as compare to us) not having quality of life is so very hard to bear. It's always so difficult making the right decision for the pet... Hugs... My heart goes out to you and your family.

I' so glad that you have a hobby that brings you so much joy and an income. I love flowers and flowers and gardening but I get no income from it.

The video of 9/11 got me crying as I watched it. What a powerful video. I had seen many videos before about 9?11 but had never seen this one. Thanks for this. It shows that ther are so many good people out there. We only hear from the bad one.

Take care. Warm hugs from New Brunswick Canada.

  13. It's been a sobering week....that's for sure. I always want to eat Mexican food for my birthday, so pass the tacos please! You did get enough to share, didn't you? Hugs!

  14. Your hodgepodge posts are always interesting. Yes, to the tacos for me, too! Spring comes a little earlier here in Madison (I know because my parents and I used to live near Green Bay). I realized long ago that I can never live further north than I live now--mainly because of the winter-to-spring transition. It IS frustrating to go back and forth--even in Madison or points further south! Molly is so sweet. I hope she'll have more time with you and that you'll feel peace when it's time for her to go. Hugs.

  15. Yes photos are more descriptive than words sometimes. We had to make that tough decision about our cat earlier this year, she was 20. Always hard.

  16. I am so sorry that your Molly isn't well, we have an older dog that is experiencing some health issues! I am a fan of authentic Mexican food, but it is hard to find one in our area, San Antonio has some great ones, I get to enjoy once in a blue moon. ~smile` i enjoyed your responses, especially the one about the seasons much as how I feel. Thank you for sharing.
    Blessings

  17. Good morning Carla. Sorry about Molly.
I know it is hard. My heart still breaks that Cooper's time with us ended. We got only a year with him but it was a year full of love and he really did love his life. When he began to suffer we knew it was time. I think it is the most unselfish thing you can do is to be aside your pain and loss to put there needs first. Once they start to suffer or do not have a good quality of life it is time. I feel for you with having to make decisions on Molly.
    Hugs,
    Kris

  18. I am so sorry to read that Molly isn't doing well. Making those decisions for our four-legged family can be so painful, but I know you will make the right decisions for her.
I'd not seen Boatlift before, what a touching story.

  21. Jake is our 4th dog. We have been married 33 years and had 4 dogs. we never had to go through the dementia like Jake is having now. Max was 16, Baby 15 and Cooper 13, we believe the same as Cranberyy morn, when it is time, we don't let them suffer. the vet can help you know when, if you can't tell your self..
