Hello November ~ It is the Hodgepodge

2016 Thanksgiving place settings. I used broom corn and acorns. Each acorn had the initial of a Thanksgiving guest.

Joyce asks the questions.
We answer the questions.

 1. What does/did Halloween look like at your house this year? Did you decorate? Pick pumpkins? Carve pumpkins? Expect trick or treaters? Wear a costume to a party or event? Make a costume? Feel glad you didn't have to come up with a costume? Cook a Halloween themed treat? Eat all the leftover candy?

Yes, I do Autumn/Halloween decorating.
We carve pumpkins and roast the pumpkin seeds.
We decided to hand out candy this year. We took a few years off after a kid was pushed off our steps by his siblings. He fell off the step and dumped all of his candy.

As I am answering the Hodgepodge questions our lights are on and we are up to 20 Trick or Treat visitors and no mishaps.

2. What are you waiting for? Elaborate

My son received some news that change his after graduation plans.
Waiting for him to decided and praying for answers.

 3. Do you wish you were friendlier, braver, more creative, more athletic, or something else? Explain.

With the answer of question number 2 ... patience. I want to fix things, help find the answers quickly ... patience, Carla.
One day at a time.

 4. When it comes time to paint are you a do-it-yourselfer or do you hire someone? What was the last paint job completed at your house? What room most needs painting now? How do you feel about wallpaper?

When it comes to painting, my husband is the painter. He loves to paint and does a fantastic job. We painted some outside trim on our home.
Our kitchen is in need of a re do.
I love what Kris at Junk Chic Cottage  did with her new living room using wallpaper. Love it!

 5. What is one specific thing you felt gratitude for in the month of October?

Our family enjoyed a week getaway to Madison, Wisconsin. We had great weather, awesome family time and memory making.

6.  Insert your own random thought here.

I am starting to create our 2017 Thanksgiving place settings. Do you have place settings at your Thanksgiving table? Any fun ideas?

  1. I love your crafty natural place settings! I usually have way too big of a crowd to do any. I tried a few years ago but just collected chargers for each guest and did natural centerpieces. I'm not hosting this year so I don't need to think about it. Ohh..sounds mysterious about your son's future plans. I hope your answers are clear and decisive! 🙏 I need more patience too! I'm ready to decorate for Thanksgiving. I keep the fall things up and just take down the Halloween things. I have a few Th'giving decorations and I'm excited to put my turkey pumpkin together. We handed out candy but only had 2 groups come by to trick or treat.

  2. Such a fun and lovley post, dear Carla. Can you believe November has arrived?!

I will be praying for your son as he makes some decisions concerning his future. God always has a plan... :)

    Hugs to you!

  3. I'm already drooling thinking about Thanksgiving dinner. It's one of my favorite holidays. I decorate for autumn but not Halloween. We never get trick or treaters where we live at the edge of town. I'm kinda glad since I don't need to have candy in the house to tempt me! :) A fun post and I really like your table setting.

  4. It's hard to wait, isn't it. I'll be interested in finding out what this is all about. Prayers for you all! Thanks for sending me over to Junk Chic Cottage. You might just have rescued me from a miserable time this winter, peeling off wallpaper bit by tiny bit. That is a pretty and LIGHT color she has on her walls! Have a wonderful Wednesday, Carla.

  5. I adore your Thanksgiving table setting - if this is the one your going with! I haven't started yet but thinking! I need more patience too my friend - you're not alone! It's tough and I want to fix things too! Are you a Libra? I am! I will be praying for answers and decisions in your life! We are putting things together after that freak storm in the Northeast! No power for days and we are slowly getting back! That's why I've been MIA! Slowly getting there!

  6. You created a beautiful place setting! I am glad you showed it closer, so now I can see the initial. Did you paint it on with glitter paint? What an awesome idea! Yes, I decorate a lot for autumn, not so much for Halloween. Except on Halloween eve, my kitchen tablescape for the girls. You will see tomorrow. So your son has some big decisions to make, I hope his options are all happy. I have always been so terribly impatient! But now I find with age, I am getting a lot better. Too bad it came so late in life!

  7. I like that you use natural elements in your decorating. I don't have plans...even for dinner yet! Not sure what will take place this year. Hugs!

  8. I love the simplicity of the place setting and the special touches. So very Fall. Hoping with you that all works out well for your son. My gratitude was for family, too.

  9. I like your place settings. I'm not hosting Thanksgiving or Christmas this year, but will tuck that acorn idea away for later. I hopped over to see the wallpaper and like the accent wall. Her living room is so pretty! Hope your son is able to make a good decision and feel peace about the way forward.

  10. Senior year is such an exciting time, but it's also filled with so many decisions. I hope that it all works out and he (and you) feel good about whatever decision he makes...xo

  11. I enjoyed reading your hodgepodge. I do enjoy setting a table. It's been awhile since I've done that and we're heading to a friends home for Thanksgiving this year so no table set again. Boohoo. Love the acorn and wheat idea. Hope a good decision is reached.

  12. Oops, i guess I forgot to click publish.
My comment just didn't make it through. I think your place setting looks fantastic. I especially love that you painted initials ion the acorns.

I sure pray and hope that your son will make the right decision. Life is full of decisions and choices. That's part of growing up. Everything is a new experience. Good luck to him. Hugs, Julia

  13. I used to make the place settings and do all sorts of Thanksgiving decorating but I have toned it way down since the girls have all grown up. We still have Thanksgiving but I've even used Thanksgiving themed paper plates in the last 5 years or so. I'm sure I'll get back into it as the grand kiddos get older. :)

  14. These are fun! Sometimes I have place-settings; sometimes I just let people sit. My brother-in-law is never happy with where I place him, so I give up. I'm glad you had a great time in Madison. :-)

  15. Hi Carla. You are off to a great start on your Thanksgiving table setting. My daughter has Thanksgiving and has pretty Turkey plates she uses that I handed down to her. So happy she picks up where I left off with making a pretty table for Thanksgiving. Love when our kids pick up and carry out traditions. Happy Thursday.

  17. Happy November, Carla! Patience is so hard, especially when it involves your children! I'm taking down Halloween decor (we didn't have much of it because I'm not a huge fan) and I'm decorating a whole lot for Thanksgiving. I will probably put together several tablescapes just for the fun of it before the big day.

Your acorns are so cute! I love the glitter!

  18. I will pray for your sons decision. Patience is a good one. I use to have so much but not so much anymore! I love your place setting.

  20. Sorry about the difficult news for your son, but I'm a believer that all things work together for good! Your last year's Thanksgiving setting is perfect, simple and lovely! It will be fun to see what you come up with this year, maybe something used from your garden? How nice that your husband likes to paint, that is a helpful quality to have, as things always need painted, lol! Hope you have a lovely weekend :)

  21. We don't do place settings, but you have me thinking we should!
I love the brightness of the living room at Junk Chic Cottage. That is so opposite our house, and so neat!
