Thanksgiving of 2018 found our family just getting home from attending Basic Training Graduation for our son Sam at Fort Jackson, South Carolina.
After graduation we were able to spend three fantastic days in Augusta, Georgia, before Sam had to report for duty at Fort Gordon, Georgia.
As we planned our trip back to Wisconsin we took our time and visited the Tallulah Gorge, located in the Northeast Mountains of Georgia.
Yikes.. I still need to do a post about our stops on our way back home.
Our last Cracker Barrel that we stopped at was in Northern Kentucky. Stopping at Cracker Barrel is a big deal for us when traveling, because we do not have any near to us in the Northland of Wisconsin.
Our waitress shared that they were baking pies for Thanksgiving. My husband looked at me with puppy dog eyes. We just can't celebrate Thanksgiving with out pecan pie. No worries about the turkey, mashed potato or squash. He needs pie.
We did just that. We bought a pie and celebrated Thanksgiving safe and sound back home in Wisconsin. Our Sam enjoyed Thanksgiving at Fort Gordon, Georgia and was able to call home. He shared that he had a great dinner and what really made the dinner special was who served them.
Some of the high command came to Fort Gordon to thank the men and women for their service and served them Thanksgiving dinner.
Thanksgiving day will be here soon and we are so excited to host Thanksgiving this year. We have a small family, it is just six of us. I am excited as this is my first hosting Thanksgiving.

You had quite an adventure a year ago....and lots of memories and stories to tell! I always loved pecan pie best! Enjoy your week and your sweet family. Happy Thanksgiving!
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving Carla. I hope you have a great time celebrating.
ReplyDeleteIt's such a blessing to have the family together for Thanksgiving! Enjoy the holiday (and the pies!) ;)
ReplyDeleteThose first two pictures are powerful and oh so moving, Carla. Puts a lump in my throat.
ReplyDeletePecan pie is our favorite pie! I understand how your husband feels about that. Have fun getting ready for the big day. Tell us all about it when you get back from your break!
I love Cracker Barrel too, but don't get to go much because there aren't any around here. I didn't know they sold pies, but bet they're yummy. Pecan is one of my favorites.
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving!
It is so hard to believe that was already a year ago! I have never had a Cracker Barrel pie, but that will be on my list to try. Hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving at home. I can imagine how exciting it was for you to host!
ReplyDeleteThat year went by so quickly. Hope your had a nice day yesterday. We have one Cracker Barrel 15 miles away and one 37 miles away. Haven't been to either one of them but I have been a few times in Florida. I like them.
ReplyDeleteCarla- I remember your son coming home and that was a wonderful Thanksgiving,I know. We, too, look for Cracker Barrel's when we travel. Did you know there used to be one in Appleton but it closed several years ago. It was by the big Fox Valley mall.
ReplyDeleteHappy after-Thanksgiving week to you-xo Diana
Carla, you have the sweetest posts. Glad I didn't miss this one. Hope your Thanksgiving Day turned out perfect. Cracker Barrel is my favorite place to eat too...always "pecan pancakes", always! I'm holding on to a 25.00 gift certificate to Cracker Barrel now, a gift for my birthday in September. Now just got to get Poppy in the mood to eat out. We have a Cracker Barrel just 30 minutes away.
ReplyDeleteBelated Thanksgiving Wishes.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
