It is a Garden Party at the Hodgepodge!

Hello Friends, it is Wednesday and that means it is time for the Hodgepodge!

Joyce asks the questions.

We answer the questions.

 1. What advice would you give yourself as we begin this new year?

Stay Calm and Carry On

My husband thinks our country and world will be enduring a difficult 2021. He keeps saying "Fasten Your Seat Belt, this is going to be a wild ride."

 2. If you could throw a themed party for yourself what would the theme be?

A Garden Party!

3. Tell us where you were and something about what life was like when you were 20- 21.

I was working full time for Marquip, located in Phillips, Wisconsin.

I was working in Accounts Payable. I loved my work.

And at the very same time I met a boy named Jeremy, who was finishing his college career at MTU. The start of a love story!

4. What's on the menu at your house this week?

Leftovers ... we had our boys home for the long weekend. We cooked up a lot of good eats! We had them take some leftovers  and we still had enough leftovers for Jeremy and I to be creative for most of this week when it comes to dinner.

 5. What should you do more of this year? Less of?

I am going to spend more time with friends and family. If that takes getting creative in how we meet up, we will get creative. Outdoor tea in the garden, walks in the park .. whatever it takes.. I want to spend more time with friends and family.

I am going to worry less.. not sure how well I will do, but I am going to try!

 6. Insert your own random thought here.

Please be in prayer for my state of Wisconsin.. at this time our son has not been called to duty, he is on standby.

Gov. Tony Evers on Monday announced the mobilization of 500 members of the National Guard to Kenosha.

Praying for peace.

  1. I think your husband is right about buckling your seat belt.
It is so unfortunate what is happening with so much division. It's really the work of the devil.
I pray for safety for your state and your people. Don't give in to fear and stay hopeful and strong. God is on your side.
    Hugs, Julia

  2. I can see how it is hard to NOT worry, with your brave son's job! What is going on in Kenosha? We watch the news pretty much 24/7, but I have not seen anything about it. What a lovely and cheerful bouquet for the deep mid-winter!

  4. I think your husband is right. Things certainly are not over yet! Of course a garden party, if I was asked I think I could have guessed it. So many of us were around 20-21 when we meet our husbands. Yum on the leftovers! Praying for Wisconsin....

  6. I think your hubs is right. What a mess our country is and it only seems to grow more so by the day. A garden party sounds so nice right about now. Something cheerful. Happy new year, and I do hope your son isn't called up. Absolutely crazy times right now.

  8. I think I lost my comment. I said my daughter-in-law is a federal officer and she is on high alert, too. And now this thing in Washington...so scary. You wonder where it is all going to end. Your hubby is right! xo Diana

  10. Praying for peace right now as I'm watching the horrifying news tonight.
I love the photo of you and J! Leftovers can be really good and I don't mind them at all. Of course you'd have a garden party! Love that idea1

  11. They're not leftovers--they're planned overs. That's what we call them. Sure makes planning dinners for the next week easier.
I will pray for Wisconsin as I have other friends living there. (And I get the National Guard part. My son is USAR)
I like your advice for 2021--stay calm and carry on AND fasten those seatbelts.
    Have a happy healthy week.

  12. I know what you mean about leftovers! I have gotten very creative with them as well. Always nice to not have to cook though! Praying for this country, agreeing with your husband about it all. Today has been a wild ride already! Prayers continue for the safety of all, your sons included. Many blessings :)

  13. Prayers for Sam that he will stay put and unrest will calm down. Let's hope we can unbuckle our seat belts in the coming months and get off this crazy ride. I am praying for more love and peace and less unrest and hoping we win this war on Covid. I wonder if Sam will be sent out to deliver the next doses of vaccines. The national guard down here is going to be doing that when the next batches come through. Happy Thursday. No sun for days now. I need some sunshine and I know you probably do too. xoxo Kris

  14. I know what happened in Kenosha. All one has to do, is 'duckduckgo' it. Wishes for safety, for him.

Wishes for accomplishment for all your happy plans! Get creative, as you are doing.

'Bumpy' is not quite how I'd describe 2021. I think you can fill in, a few other words, which I will not write. :-(

Betcha' he could use a few more words tooooooooo! But he has class.

  15. Oh Carla, here we go again. Sorry about your son's possibility of being in the thick of it. Praying for him. A garden party would be lovely! Good to read your answers here. I'm a little late coming around.

  17. Yep staying calm and carrying on is good advice, as is fasten your seatbelts. 2021 is not looking to be an easy ride for any of us. But a garden party! Oh that would be lovely. I'm so hoping I can do that with family members this year. Hope you and your family stay safe and well Carla.

  20. All I will say is, we are in deep trouble in this country and with the recent "outcome" of the election, it has gone from bad to worse. I like Jeremy's sentiment especially since it's a paraphrase of a famous line from a famous movie starring my favorite female actress of all time: Bette Davis. The movie is All About Eve and the actual quote (quote by Miss Davis) is "Fasten your seatbelts; it's going to be a bumpy night." Indeed. God please help us; the wrong that is about to be done will shock even those who helped to bring it about.

When I was 20-21 I was finishing college and then I got a job and started dating my husband, who like your Jeremy is tall ... six foot four to my five foot five. We too love leftovers! My TG is grateful for anything, and I like not having to cook.

My favorite kind of party would be one that involved a black-and-white color scheme, and beautiful flowers though I am no stripe of a gardener, and good things to eat and the presence of people that I love. xoxo
