Hello Friends, it is Wednesday, that means it is time for the Hodgepodge.
Yep, it is officially that time of year, when Wisconsin knows how to show off, full in autumn color.
Joyce asks the questions.
We answer the questions.
1. It's officially fall y'all...in the northern hemisphere anyway. What are three of your favorite things about this particular season of the year?
Pumpkins!!
Gourds!!
After the summer months ... heading back into the kitchen to bake and cook up our favorite comfort foods.
Carving pumpkins... our annual Pumpkin Carving Party... that also means family time!!
2. Your favorite fall fabric-denim, flannel, tweed, corduroy, tartan, polar fleece, leather? Do you own something made with your favorite fall fabric?
It would be flannel. Oh yes, my favorite flannel shirts. And of course my flannel pj's. And I cannot forget to mention our cozy flannel sheets.
3. According to Everyday Health here are ten healthy fall foods- apples (flavonoids may improve brain health), pears (for heart friendly fiber), cranberries (helps your body fight oxidative stress) winter squash (for eye health), pumpkin (another great source of Vitamin A), leeks (an anti-inflammatory food), brussel sprouts (full of fiber and anti-oxidants), sweet potatoes (loaded with Vit A and C), parsnips (keep your bones healthy with Vit K), and broccoli (may help prevent cancer).
How many on the list do you eat on a regular basis? Which one is your favorite? Which one gets a big no thanks from you?
Often during the autumn and winter months I will eat... apples, pears, cranberries, winter squash, pumpkin, leeks, brussel sprouts and sweet potatoes.
My favorite would be.. pears!!
No thank you... parsnips and broccoli.
4. Tell us about the last time (or a recent time) you experienced a wave of nostalgia?
Looking back at photos... always gives me a wave of nostalgia.
5. Sept. 22nd was National Daughter's Day. Like mother, like daughter...does this idiom ring true for you? You may answer in terms of your own role as a daughter or, if you have daughters, then your role as a mother of daughters.
I will be answering in terms of my role as a daughter. My mom has a true gift of hospitality and she passed it on to me.
Thank you, Mom!
6. Insert your own random thought here.
Autumn fishing in Wisconsin is another true treat. The autumn colors, no bugs biting, but oh yes the fish will be biting.
Ugh the beautiful autumn color! I envy you that; we don't get much and what we do get is well into November! But here if you close your eyes (and even if you keep them open, haha), it's still basically summer. We don't even bother with Indian summer; we just keep on having summer, hahaha! But some rain is coming our way and I hope it helps to nudge the fall color, along with a few cooler nights! Should do the trick. I love flannel too! xoxo
ReplyDeleteI loved all of your photos and answers. I love broccoli but feel about brussels sprouts how you do with broccoli.
ReplyDeleteI have always wanted to go to Wisconsin. My good friend diane has a daughter who went to college and began her career in Madison. She loved it there.
Looks like you eat really healthy! And I love how the leaves are used as part of the decoration in the 4th photo. I love flannel, too. It is the first fabric I think of when thinking of comfort fabrics.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't handle flannel sheets here in South Carolina : ) Even in the winter months I'm warm when I sleep. I love all the outdoor activities in autumn...hiking, fires, fishing, camping...the weather is made for it! Have a nice rest of the week!
ReplyDeleteI love your list of favorite 3 things. Love the pumpkins! Yes, I'm with you on flannel sheets, even here, all year in California. My favorite is pears too. That's a sweet photo. That's great that you take after your mom. That's nice about the fishing and of course the colors are so pretty. Take care, Debby
ReplyDeleteOne thing that I enjoy about eh Hodgepodge questions is that I learn so much about my blogging friends. I can only imagine how beautiful your fall season is there in Wisconsin. Flannel pjs would definitely be on the top of my list as well. so comfy. Carla..I love your cute carved pumpkins...
ReplyDeleteLove all your answers. You eat really healthy and that is so great. I hope we have a really nice fall here in the midwest. Have a great week. Hugs. Kris
ReplyDeleteI love all of those fall foods. Yay! Wisconsin looks gorgeous and I love how it is showing off! I get nostalgic looking at old photos too. I kept seeing things on Facebook yesterday for National Daughter's day. It seems to fall on different day! Every day is Daughter's Day for me. I hope you're having a wonderful week!
ReplyDeleteI have only been to Wisconsin a couple of times and both of those times were years ago- I do remember it as being beautiful. How nice to enjoy the beauty as you prepare for the cold winter ahead! Joyce´s prompt as well as a book I am reading have convinced me that I need to eat more vegetables.
ReplyDeleteLove your pumpkins! Cannot wait for the cool weather to get out my sweatshirts and sweaters. Janice
ReplyDeleteBeautiful fall photos. It's still hot here, but the shorter days make it obvious we're in for change. I made an apple crisp yesterday, I love all those foods. For clothes, anything soft.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed your answers and your lovely fall photos! I didn't even think about flannel sheets when I answered that flannel was my favorite, but yes I love the coziness of those sheets. Have a great week!
ReplyDeleteAlways enjoy your posts Carla but how can you not like parsnips or broccoli lol?
ReplyDeleteWell, you know I'm not the biggest fan since fall leads to winter, but there really is so much to enjoy in this glorious and colorful season. I think you named just about all of them..especially pumpkin carving and flannel!! Happy Weekend!!
ReplyDeleteHi Carla! Wonderful fall photos. We do not have hardly any fall signs here yet. It's crazy. Not many of the leaves have changed, our grass is green and growing and it has been unseasonably warm. You know what that means in WI, right? BAD WINTER. lol. Happy Fall, Carla~ xo Diana
ReplyDeleteLoved all of your answers, Carla, Autumn is my favorite season, thank you for visiting and leaving a sweet comment, I hope your sauerkraut turned out great, one of my favorite things to make and eat, I am the only one in my family who enjoys sauerkraut.
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Sue
Love me some pumpkins (we will go picking soon I hope) and apples. Brussel sprouts we just started eating this year and they are growing on us.
ReplyDeleteStopping by to say "hi"! xo
