Happy Birthday America and it is the Hodgepodge

Happy Birthday America

and it is the Hodgepodge.

Joyce asks the questions.

We answer the questions.

 1. What does freedom mean to you?

This is a difficult question for me to answer, because I could take it in so many directions. I have decided to take it regarding food.

Freedom to me means you have the right to decided what is best for you and your family.

I will share an example of how I look at freedom...

If you want to drink raw milk, you should be able to drink raw milk.

I already know what some people will say to me, "Carla, drinking raw milk has risks. People can get sick."

My answer to this is, "How can you have freedom without risks."

I was raised on drinking raw milk.

2. How will you celebrate Independence Day this year? If you live outside the USA answer this question as it relates to your own country's patriotic holiday, wherever that may land on the calendar.

We will be celebrating America's birthday as a family in August. This Independence Day our family is going in different directions.

3. This or that...red, white, or blue? Stars or stripes? Watermelon, home made ice cream, or blueberry pie? How do you feel about fireworks?

I love blue!! It is my favorite color.

Stars!!

Home made ice cream!!

I like fireworks.

4. What have you purchased recently that made you excited?

A gift for my husband, it will be here this week. I am excited to give it to him.

5. I'm thankful to live in America (or fill in whatever country you call home) because____________.

I am proud to live in America, because I am proud of the freedoms we have as a nation.

6. Insert your own random thought here.

"Common sense is seeing things as they are and doing things as they ought to be."

Harriet Beecher Stowe

  1. I've never tasted raw milk before. Do you have your own cows or do you purchase raw milk straight from a farmer?

  2. So true about freedom coming with risk. I love the quote...so simple, yet profound. I hope your hubs loves his surprise!

  3. I grew up drinking raw goats milk. Not a fan! I don't drink much of any milk nowadays- but to your point, I agree, yes, we should have the freedom to drink the kind of milk that we want :). I like the quote about common sense. Have a great 4th!

  4. Good Morning. I love the 4th but also know that means for us in the midwest the summer is half over. Time really does fly. Happy 4th. Hugs. Kris

  5. Good morning Carla. I have never had raw milk. I agree with you… now days, we take a risk even when we buy salad making packets at the grocery store. There are risk all around us each and every day. Great example of appreciating the Freedoms that we have. wishing you and your family a sweet 4th even though you may be scattered this year. big hugs

  6. Raw milk is such a great example! Homemade ice cream, blue everything, and celebrating with family later sounds lovely.

Hope your husband loves his gift. Happy 4th, Carla!

  7. Raw milk is a great example. I grew up drinking it and I just don't care for milk, period. But we should be free to consume what we think is best for our families. I have a bookmark that has a quote from the character Marilla Cuthbert in Anne of Green Gables: "There's risks in pretty near everything a body does in this world." And that is so true!

I'm with you on blue and homemade ice cream! Have a wonderful 4th, Carla!

  8. First, I love that lantern! So unique and pretty. I like what you said about freedom and risks. Freedom is such a beautiful thing. It's "stars" for me too, Carla. That's a special "common sense" quote. Happy 4th, dear friend of mine. I always enjoy your answers.

  9. I love that you chose to go the food route with #1. I've been thinking about trying raw milk. It has to be better than what we are buying at the grocery store! Hope you have a great weekend!

  10. I’ve never had raw milk but food restrictions really irritate me. We should be able to have the freedom to choose what we put into our bodies - risks and all. Same with health care these days. Seems the insurance companies are the ones telling the doctors what they can and cannot do. I kinda rebel against that.
Good post. I used to enjoy fireworks until my present dog practically has a stroke. It’s become stressful. We give her meds starting 2 days before and they don’t take away all her anxiety but they do help some. One year I had back neighbors throwing fireworks in our yard - plus we were in the middle of a terrible 10 year drought. Oh well.

I’m sure your August Independence Day celebration will be fun!

  12. My favorite colors are both red and blue so this month is perfect for me. Also making a strawberry and blueberry trifle for dessert on the 4th. We will be celebrating by staying home and just grilling. Happy July 4th Carla! Janice
