52 Weeks

2025 I declared to my husband that I wanted to do something fun/different once a month. Explore a new trail, state park, lake, river, town or city. We started out strong January, February, March and April. When May arrived so did some major changes for me and those changes continued to come at me month after month. With all the changes and major decisions needed, the plan for a once a month outing was tossed right out with the bath water.

October of 2025, Joyce of the Hodgepodge posted Day Datin' . After reading the post I thought, 2026 we are going to try to do this. One date, once a week, doing something fun together. It does not have to be something major, it can be simple.

I plan to document them here on the blog, just as Joyce is doing. She is my inspiration for  Day Datin'. And by the way, when I mentioned it to my husband, he was all in. He knew my disappointment that we did not get very far with our once a month outing last year, so why not make it even more challenging and do 52. (Just Kidding)

We got Episode #1 in the bank, this adventure took place the evening of December 31st 2025.

We headed out to tour the Christmas Light Display at Prairie Farm Park, in Prairie Farm, Wisconsin.

The path along the Hay River.

Not only were the Christmas lights on display, the moon was just about full this evening as well.

We tap our maple trees to cook down sap to maple syrup. We loved this little sugar shack display. There had been a big storm two nights before, so the little Christmas tree on the shack has fallen over.

Here we are with the copper dog. He will probably be with for most of our adventures.

I have two more day dates on the calendar.

Stay tuned as we count down to 52ish dates.

  1. I think this is a great idea Carla but not sure I could sustain 52. I might try for one a month. Good luck with your attempt. You got off to a good start.

  2. What a fun idea! Look forward to see what you do each week. I dont think I could make it myself, but maybe when I retire I can see if we might be able to do it ourselves. Your first date was an awesome one. Wish we had a Christmas light tour near us. Janice

  5. This is a wonderful goal for every couple to set. Your evening outing for December 31 looks so fun...maybe a little cold too, but who cares if its cold when you are enjoying the scenes and the company of each other.

  6. This is great. Terry and I have reserved Friday nights for date night for years. Sometimes it is just watching a movie but mostly getting out together for a few hours on Friday nights. It helps us to catch up with what has been happening during the week. Glad you are doing this Carla you will love it. Hugs. Kris

  7. This sounds like so much fun! Life gets busy and I think it's great that you make time to go on a date with your husband. I need to start doing something like this and set aside some time to make sure we have time with just the two of us. Thanks so much for sharing!

  8. This is a great idea, Carla. And I loved seeing the lights on the sugar shack in the month of January, as I still have the spirit of Christmas for days and weeks after. How fun for Copper that you will take him along too. ; ) This was a fun outing in Prairie Farm.

  13. After reading about Joyce and her dates I thought to do the same with my fella but this year has been a write off so far with my fella having a cold and then me. Maybe my fella and I start from next week.

  17. This is a fabulous idea!! I am going to suggest it to my husband. We do usually try to get out once a week, even if it's something super small, but maybe we should aim higher than the local thrift store!! hee hee!!

  19. This will be fun to follow along! I think when the weather picks up we'll do more outings, but for now lunch out somewhere new (or old), a movie, a walk in the woods...these are all good and time we mark for each other. Have fun!
