Hello Friends, it is Wednesday and that means it is time for the Hodgepodge!
Joyce asks the questions.
We answer the questions.
Another goal of mine for 2026... take more photos!
And just for fun, I placed this Lego guy in my pot of succulents. My boys already placed the big black plastic spider in my plants. In fact they have them placed all around the house. They know mom is scared of spiders and like to tease me even when they are not visiting.
♥
Let us get on with the Hodgepodge...
1. What are three words you would use to describe your 2025?
Challenging
Emotional
Shift
2. I ask this question every January, and I always get comments about how we shouldn't be banning words. This is fun and games so just play along : )
Every January 1st since 1976 Lake Superior University has published a list of words they'd like to see banished from the Queen's English. Words may be banished due to misuse, overuse, or just general uselessness (go here to read about how the words are chosen). Here's the list for 2026-
67 • demure • cooked • massive • incentivize • full stop • perfect • gift/gifted • my bad • reach out
Which one (if any) do you use most often? Which one of these words/phrases would you most like to see banished from everyday speech and why? Is there a word you think should have made the list?
I use the following ... cooked * perfect * gift/gifted *
My son Sam's girlfriend uses ... my bad ... it makes me chuckle when she says it. She also got me into saying 67 as a joke, and so far it has only been funny and not annoying. She warned me to get ready for 78... she is trying to keep me up to speed. Hee Hee!
I have gotten tired of.. full stop in news commentary/interviews.
I usually answer what word I think should have made the list with the.. F-bomb.
I do think it is OVERUSED.
3. What are your nightly rituals? Is that different from your 'ideal' nightly ritual? If so what's your ideal?
I wash my face each night, put on moisturizer, brush my teeth and floss too.
I have PT I do each evening before bed to help with my TOS.
4. January 6th is/was National Bean Day. Do you like beans? Which one is your favorite? Last thing you ate made with beans?
Yes, I like beans. My favorite are baby butter beans.
We recently had Nacho's with black beans.
5. Are you easily embarrassed? Elaborate.
I am not. I usually end up making fun of myself when I goof up.
6. Insert your own random thought here.
After the fun of the Christmas cards arriving in the mail, I get excited to head out to the mailbox and find the seed catalogs.
Is it too early to think spring?
Hee Hee

No, it is not too early to be thinking about spring and planning what to plant- I´ve been doing the same!! Those nachos look incredible :). I say the word ¨perfect¨ a lot and probably in the over used sense of the word, lol. Agree so much about the F-bomb. It´s used so often- remember when ladies didn´t swear? I sound like a fuddy duddy but, goodness, so many people swear so often- the words don´t seem to mean anything due to their overuse yet they still sound awful and crass to me. I love the Lego guy in your plant! Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteIt is NOT too early to think of spring -- I am thinking about longer days and sunshine!!
ReplyDeleteIt's never to early to think spring! I agree the F- word is overused. I've never been someone who swears and still find this word especially cringy, doubly so when women use it. Have a great day dreaming of gardens and blooming things and planting weather : )
ReplyDeleteOh thinking about Spring and Summer ahhhhhhh. I think these next three months are cold so thinking about flowers and sunshine would be a good plan to get through the winter. Hugs. Kris
ReplyDeleteTo take more photos is a great goal and how cute is the Lego man.
ReplyDeleteWhen someone says my bad it makes me chuckle too and my girls always say 67 as a joke too.
I have been thinking about the garden and seeds too. It seems too early for me at the moment since the ground has been frozen for the last week.
Speaking of the F-bomb. The latest book I'm reading is overusing it. It's sad that I might abandon this author who also is adding many social issues and environment issues that take away the joy of reading her books. Your nachos look amazing!!
ReplyDeleteI don't like it when people say "Look" before they give their take on something. It feels unnecessary and condescending. Ahh, Spring- I'm dreaming of spring! Yes to beans, almost every day. I suppose chickpeas the most, on salad. But your nachos have me craving some!
ReplyDeleteThat pan of nachos with beans look amazing! I think I might not to make me some of those this weekend:)
ReplyDeleteThat's funny about the spiders and that Lego looks good in there. Sounds like 2025 was definitely a challenge for you. Those are 3 good words. I have heard my bad before but not sure who was using it. So 7/8 is coming? We happen to shower at night. It seems to work best for us. Mark follows me so he can do all the squeegee and then wipe it down. It's too much for me to do. Your meal looks delicious. It's okay to dream about Spring arriving.
ReplyDeleteThese flowers are gorgeous! And I have never seen the little photographer Lego, he is so cool!!
ReplyDeleteNow isn't this just the cutest photo of the lego guy...you did good Carla. I'm like you, I end up laughing at myself when I do crazy things. And when it comes to words...these days, I don't even know if a word is a real word or not. Mylee Jo (17 and still in school) comes home with all kinds of different words each week. We went through the 6/7 thing and the "My Bad" and I usually catch all of these on the tail end, when the words have been overused. lol.. I am ready for those seed catalogs...woo hoo...
ReplyDeleteBeautiful flowers, Carla! The Lego guy is so cute!
ReplyDeleteThe Lego guy in your pot of succulents made me smile ...
ReplyDeleteRoll-on Spring it's one of my favourite seasons :)
All the best Jan
I hate spiders too. Love most beans except lima beans. Your nachos looked yummy. Janice
