Over the Rainbow and it is the Hodgepodge

Happy Wednesday my friends, planting the garden is on the agenda for the next few weeks. We will work on planting the plants that are cold hardy first. As the days and nights continue to warm we will start to plant out our peppers, tomatoes and tropical flowers.

On to the Hodgepodge..

Joyce asks the questions.

We answer the questions.

Click here to join the fun!

 1. What's one piece of advice you would you give a recent or soon-to-be graduate?

Hold tight to the dreams you have today and walk with God in their direction.

2. May 15th marks the birth date of L. Frank Baum, author of The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. At this point in time are you more in need of brains, courage, heart, or a trip back home? Explain.

Brains.. I am taking on a painting project. I will be using paint I have not worked with before. I need to study up on the best way to tackle this project.

 3.  "There's no place like home" is an oft repeated line from Baum's book. When was the last time you felt the truth of that statement?

We live about two hours from my hometown and our family farm. It is always good to take a trip back home. It is usually at Thanksgiving and Christmas when we all get together. For the past three years, I only see my sister during Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Our family will travel back "home" a few times during the year. Our next big family time on the farm will be our summer weekend of fishing, kayaking, fireworks and more.

4. May is National BBQ Month...do you own a grill? Who does the grilling at your house? What's your favorite thing to throw on the grill? What's the last thing you grilled?

We do own a Weber grill. My husband does all the grilling at our house. I love how my husband grills fish, especially trout. YUM!
My husband grilled a turkey on Sunday for our annual Mother's Day dinner. We have been doing this for my mom for many years. It is something she looks forward to each Mother's Day. We host a fun dinner, and grilled turkey is the showstopper on the menu.
And dessert too.

 5. What's a memory you replay in your head when you need a little joy?

Oh, it would be a memory with our boys. We have enjoyed so many good times. We still do. They know how to make their mom laugh.

 6. Insert your own random thought here.

If you need me, I will be out in the garden.

  5. A Weber grill is the best. We've had them throughout the years. Grilled turkey sounds interesting and delicious. You are a couple hours from your hometown too. It's always nice to visit from time to time. Your summer weekend back home sounds fun. That little troll is scary and cute at the same time hehehe. I wish you well with your painting project, Carla.

  6. Mark has smoked a turkey (yummy), but I don't think he has ever grilled one. Yum! We have stopped (for the time being) purchasing deli meats - we could grill a turkey and slice it . . .

  7. I honestly do not think I have ever had fish off the grill. I was offered grilled tuna once (that my cousin was making) but was not sure I liked tuna. Other than that...no. But it does not yummy:)

  8. Brains please! Lol, I did a crossword recently and can't believe how badly I struggled. My brain is like a chewed up piece of gum. I traveled recently, I love to explore - but theres nothing better than coming home.

  14. Never have grilled a turkey but sounds wonderful. We have a Blackstone grill and do breakfast when it gets warm along with dinners. No gardening here yet. Will need to wait a bit more. Have fun in yours. Janice

  15. How wonderful to still have your family farm/home available and in your family! That would be so wonderful! Once our parents died we had to sell their home, which is the home I grew up in, and it was always the gathering place for all the holidays, birthdays, etc., and now we are scattered to the four winds. My one living brother has a nice place in NC, and they have hosted several family reunions in the past several years, but it is a LONG trip for us and expensive to stay in hotels, etc., so it makes it difficult to participate. I really miss having our family home. Oh, I've never had grilled turkey before. Does he grill it whole? How does he do that? Is it more like a smoked turkey than grilled? I've had fried turkey, done in a deep fryer, but never grilled. I bet it's good. I do hope your garden grows nicely. Here in Florida we have planted some time ago. Finally I see little squashes forming, and I have a lot of green tomatoes on the vine, so it won't be long before we can start enjoying the "fruit of our labors". This is a first for me and I am excited! Enjoy your gardening time. I enjoyed your post.

  16. Great advice!
We also have a Weber! i was gonna grill our salmon on it tonight but it started to rain again so....into the oven it went.
My flowers I planted here about 3 weeks ago are doing really well. I'm so thankful. (I live in eastern NYS).
Good luck with the painting project.

  17. Enjoyed your answers, Carla, especially the last one - me too! My husband knows where to come looking for me these days, lol! I won't plant warm weather plants for at least another couple of weeks. We probably will get a freeze this weekend, but we've had really nice weather. I know your memories of your boys are so special! The trip to your family farm sounds wonderful!!
