Hello Friends,
Today is going to be a sound off, just to get some stuff off my chest.
I first will start with the USPS.
I do have to say, my grandma was a rural mail carrier for 40 years. I rode with her on her route. We had so much fun together. I would ride in the back with all the mail. She was loved on her route and she took pride in her work.
I am not sure what is going on with today's USPS, but it is a mess. I wonder if we are going backwards instead of forwards.
For several years I have ordered our onion sets from a fantastic grower in Texas. I have not had one bit of trouble with receiving our order in fine condition, until this year.
I received confirmation our onions shipped. A week went by, still no onions on my doorstep? I was looking at the tracking and it looked like our onions where stuck in Ohio.
I contacted the company I deal with, they said they noticed the USPS is no longer updating the tracking information on the sight. WHAT??? CRAZY??
The next week our onions came...
Our box of onion sets came soaking wet, when I opened the box the onions had mold all around them and smelled awful.
They had gotten wet, left to sit and rot.
Thankfully the grower we order from sent out a replacement order for us immediately.
The reason I am sounding off on the USPS is something honestly has happened to the service we once had, I do not know what the trouble is?
Short staffed?
Our carrier is a sweetheart, I know she does the best she can. Is something going on higher up making the USPS crash and burn? We no longer get mail daily.
Any thoughts?
Next up...
Below is a peek of just a wee bit of the mess behind our fence from our backyard neighbor.

I shared the story about our backyard neighbor in the above post.
Sadly, he broke one of our fence panels moving more junk, a freezer, into his backyard along our fence this past week.
My husband fixed our fence and reinforced it to be ready for whatever may come next.
Keeping it real here my friends. The blog world can look all pretty and perfect, but in honesty we all are dealing with ups and downs.
Keep Calm and Carry On!!

Oh no, I can't imagine having to deal with a hoarder right behind your house! How awful, I'm glad your husband was able to fix the damage. Was the neighbor sorry at least? I'm glad they sent replacement onions. I haven't noticed our local USPS going downhill. I know the delivery people work very hard.
ReplyDeleteIssues with neighbors can be so frustrating!! That is so crazy about your onions!!
ReplyDeleteHoarding is a mental illness 🤒 and sadly these people don't realize how potentially dangerous it can be for not only themselves but others as well. I hope they are able to get help in the form of counseling.
ReplyDeleteThat was a long time for her to do that job and glad you went with her sometimes. Sorry you are having issues with them. I'm sorry to hear about those onions and I'm glad they are replacing them. Let us know how they arrive. Oh my, that is a mess behind you. What's up with that? They need to get a pickup from someone. I hope your weekend goes well.
ReplyDeleteHow fun to have tagged along with your gramma. I dont understand the mail service myself anymore. We had requested a change of address for my mom's mail. Some of it went to my brother's house, while some was just returned to sender. No rhyme or reason...we finally just changed it back and we go once a week to get her mail because she has a post office box. Ugh on your onions and so glad the grower replaced them for you. Also I had a neighbor once like that. He put up a cyclone fence and put all of his trash on the side so we had to see it. I finally went to our township and got permission to put up a privacy fence up against the other one. A year later he lost his house...and I hate to say but I was glad. Janice
ReplyDeleteGreat thinking, I think given everything that's happening, that going back, what a pity. Once we're gone, it will be better :))) Wishing you a nice Saturday, hug!
ReplyDeleteI can just picture you riding along with your postal carrier, hardworking, and loved grandma, Carla. How sad what happed with your onions, but how wonderful that the grower quickly replace them. Thankfully your dear hubby took care of the repair of the fence, but did the neighbor even offer? I’m so sorry that you have to deal with that hoarder of a neighbor. Hopefully you can have a nice Memorial Day weekend, my friend. Love and hugs are sent your way you.
ReplyDeleteI can certainly relate to what you are talking about here. This can be so frustrating and being in the nursery business, I can testify to how often this happens. Sam has always taken care of his customers when things like this arise. Things are not shipped via USPS on our end of the shipping, but I can tell you that even the trucking system has big issues as well. Not long ago, one of the truckers decided to take a few days off .... knowing that he had a shipment of trees that had to be at a certain location by a certain time. Needless to say, many of the trees were wilted and not in good shape. This ends up costing the shipper lots of money. And then just last week...I had a text that I had an order that had been shipped and delivered to our local PO. NOPE, it wasn't there. after much checking, I finally found my order.(no help from the postal workers). it was delivered to my daughters house, even though it had my Post Office Box number on it. Our town has an officer who takes care of the ordinances set by the city council. If someone is reported for an abundance of trash or for allowing weeds to grow up around their home...they are fined. Enjoy your Memorial Day weekend...
ReplyDeleteUgh! I don't think it is just your delivery service, it is really bad here with me too. Parcels get left in strange places, delivered to the wrong address or just not at all.
ReplyDeleteOh Carla, Jeremy is such a good guy to fix your part of the fencing, which broke from all your neighbor's stuff coming in. That's a lot for you and him to deal with. And I'm sorry about the onions being shipped to you and they were wet with mold. That's not only unsanitary, but mold is awful to be around. I loved hearing about your memories of going on routes with your grandma when she delivered the mail. Hang in there, Carla. No truer words were said than your last ones; isn't that the truth?
ReplyDeleteI am so sorry you are dealing with that hoarder situation. We use to have a hoarder behind us here in Pennsylvania. The city got after him and fined him. We put up a fence. And as soon as we did he moved away. The property was sold and they tore down the house. Nothing has been built there, yet.
ReplyDeleteAnd I am so sorry the onions came in such horrible shape! Thank goodness the onion company fixed your situation. How nice you have wonderful memories of your grandma delivering your mail.
I hope you have a wonderful weekend.
I'm so glad you got more onions. I do know that Amazon has started having UPS help deliver their stuff, making it a lot harder for Ups with so many more packages. I did not know about your neighbor, and don't remember reading about it. But my memory is not the best now. So I am glad you gave a link to it. Goodness, this could bring mice and all kinds of critters. And I agree it is not worth confronting them. You never know about retribution with people!!!
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, what a terrible situation with your neighbor. And the issue with the onions and the USPS is terrible. What great customer service by the onion company- gives you hope even when other things/businesses/GOVERNMENT fail to deliver. What a sweet story about your grandma!
ReplyDeleteOur entire system is broken. They are gutting funding, increasing prices, cutting jobs. It's a really sad state but I'm happy to hear your onions were replaced. Now that is how you do business.
ReplyDeleteI loved the story of you riding with your grandma! She would have been so upset to hear your story! That is awful that the seller had to be held accountable for the poor delivery of the onions, instead of the post office. I have seen a terrible decline in the service as well. We do have a wonderful carrier, but the prices are outrageous now too. So sorry about your difficult neighbor, and the issues with the fence!!! Blessings to you, and may you have a blessed Memorial Day!
ReplyDeleteYikes. Sounds like the neighbor is operating a small junk yard. That would be frustrating! I hope the smell isn't too awful? How nice you have those memories with your grandma. And we have noticed more mail issues, too. Our mail used to go directly to residents in town here, or if addressed elsewhere, it went to Madison and then off to its destination. Now, a significant amount of our mail and Madison's mail is routed through Milwaukee for sorting, as part of the USPS "cost-saving optimization plan." Mail headed to local Madison addresses is often sent to Milwaukee before returning to Madison for delivery. Crazy.
ReplyDeleteOh goodness that behind the fence neighbor must be such a trial. Can the health department get a call? I think you said the police have tried, but maybe the health department has some sway? We have a lot of trouble with the mail here too.I'm not sure what the problem is, or where the buck stops so to speak, but the service has gone downhill for sure. You can't count on it, even when you might pay extra for some sort of timely guarantee.
ReplyDeleteOh Carla, how frustrating. I'm so sorry, about the onions and the neighbor. I'm glad the grower was able to replace them, at least that's one happy ending. Dealing with neighbors is very tricky sometimes. It doesn't seem fair. I know that's not as easy to solve as the onions.
ReplyDeleteThe postal service is not like it use to be ...pleased you got the onions replaced.
ReplyDeleteAll the best Jan
I'm sorry for what you have to deal with!! I agree what is happening with USPS sometimes? Our mail is sporadic but we don't get much these days!
ReplyDeleteOur postal service doesn't seem too bad although there are often complaints on our local Facebook pages. But it has got expensive to use. And whereas 1st class always meant next day delivery in the UK you now have to pay extra to get that guarantee and 2nd class, which used to be the day after first class now could be anytime. I sympathise with the neighbour situation, must be so frustrating. Glad they replaced the onions.
