Happy Summer Friends!!
It is Wednesday and that means it is time for the Hodgepodge.
Joyce asks the questions.
We answer the questions.
1. Summer's here! In the northern hemisphere anyway. If you're in the southern hemisphere substitute winter for the word summer. What do you love most about summer? What's your biggest summer pet peeve?
I love the long days of summer.
My pet peeve is the humidity. That gosh darn humidity.
2. What song always reminds you of summer?
I attended girl scout camp each summer as a young girl. I loved singing the songs that we did. In the morning, noon and night we would sing. It was great fun. I love hearing camp songs. My memories will go right back to all the fun of girl scout camp.
This Land is Your Land
A Boy and A Girl in a Little Canoe
B I N G O
The Other Day I Met A Bear
3. What's something you remember about your childhood summers? Do you think kids today get to enjoy summer the way you did as a child? Elaborate.
We would play all day outside. We would play all night outside. At night we would play a game with our neighbors, we would hide and seek at night. It was great fun. I must admit, my friend Paulette was the best at giving you a fright. We loved it. We would do it over and over.
I did not grow up with screens, computers or hand held devices. So life was much different for me growing up in many ways.
4. We celebrate Fathers Day on June 21st. Do you favor your dad in looks or temperament? Tell us something about your dad. Or your husband as a dad. Or a son/son-in-law as a dad. Or your grandpa.
I have the love of nature. That is something I was taught by my dad. I accompanied him many times in the woods during the hunting seasons. He taught me to listen to the woods. I loved our adventures hiking along the river. He taught me to respect the river, any body of water for that matter. We would have to hike to a special place along the river to go Musky fishing. It was not an easy hike to get there, but once we got there it was a great day. It was one of my favorite adventures we would take.
5. Let's wrap up with a summer this or that-
- flip flops or sandals sandals
- beach or pool beach
- watermelon or peaches peaches
- shorts or sundress shorts
- iced coffee or ice cold lemonade iced coffee
- amusement park or water park water park
6. Insert your own random thought here.
" A Joy Shared Is A Joy Doubled"

Your memories with your dad sound really nice! How fun to recall time spent with him hiking in the woods and fishing. Girl Scout camp sounds fun and a place where you made lots of good memories :).
ReplyDeleteSuper fun questions and answers! I love everything about summer, but sometimes we have to watch the Westies in the heat and humidity here in the South. Thanks for sharing your summertime memories, especially about your dad and camp!
ReplyDeleteOur neighborhood used to have huge games of hide and seek and my favorite kick the can. It was kids of all ages and we made teams and had code words letting our teammates know it was safe to try to run in. So much fun! I went to summer camp too and loved it. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteYour memories with your dad sound much like mine! I enjoyed you sharing with us.
ReplyDeleteYour Dad sounds great. I think I'm a mix of my parents. I love the long hours of light in summer, too. Flip flops, beach, watermelon, shorts, coffee - neither. But most of those had good choices either way!
ReplyDeleteAww that was sweet about your dad. I want some of those m & m's. We used to play nighttime hide and seek too...ghosts in the graveyard. Those summer nights were the best. I just saw our first fire flies of the summer...that feels like summer to me!
ReplyDeleteahhhh in the good ole days. We would play outside all day and come in for dinner when the porch light went on. Love summer and wearing my flip flops. Have a great week. Hugs. Kris
ReplyDeleteThat's an interesting picture. Yes, the long days are nice. We get humidity but not too often. Interesting songs. I just know 2 of them. Yes, our childhoods were fun for sure. That relationship with your dad was really special. I love peanut butter M&M's.
ReplyDeleteI grew up the same way that you did. Outside playing all day. My summer pet peeve is BUGS!
ReplyDeleteI love the long days of summer too, it would be the perfect season without the humidity!
ReplyDeleteLife was so different, I didn't grow up with much technology so my days were mostly spent outside which looking back was wonderful.
I really like that photo! I did play outside a lot when I was a child. Skipping rope, Double Dutch, are just a couple of things I remember enjoying! You and I definitely have this in common, Carla! Our love of nature! Yes, my father was a nature lover and taught me to appreciate this by the walks I took with him. If my father found a spider in the apartment, he gently picked it up and put it outside. Meanwhile, my mother would be screaming. LOL!
ReplyDeleteSummer is the best! I always feel like a kid again and yes, those long days of playing outside were the best. I hope your week is fabulous.
ReplyDeleteGreat memories from your time spent with your dad. It's so true about all the technology we lived without during our growing up years. Humidity is a tough one! Happy Summer to you!
ReplyDeleteHi Carla, sounds like you made some special memories with your dad. We lived in the city and did not experience nature like you, but we did have our special times like going to Yosemite. I chose peaches too. We don't get much humidity here. Thank you for your kind word on my dog. I did an update on Minnie on my blog. Have a great rest of the week!
ReplyDeleteI have very similar childhood memories to yours--the Girl Scout camp, playing outside day and night, of course no personal tech, etc. My dad wasn't a hunter, but he was an avid fisherman and a boy scout executive--so I think his shared pursuits contributed to my love of nature. Happy summer, Carla!
ReplyDeleteDid you ever play Ghost in the Graveyard. It's like hide and seek only at night. And we count, one ghost in the graveyard, two ghost in the graveyard. Fun. Happy summer!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteWhere I grew up there were no street lights. We played outside until our parents turned on their porch lights. What fun times we had. I hate humidity too and we are about to get some big time heat next week. UGH Janice
ReplyDeleteThose red, white, and blue M&M's are a delight. Haven't seen those yet. Your Girl Scout days sound fun. I was in Blue Birds, which was similar I guess. Carla, number 3 made me smile, because we spent all day outside with neighbors growing up too. And I did not know you accompanied your dad during the hunting seasons. He must have taught you so many things, and that explains your love of nature. And that is a neat picture you shared for the hodgepodge. Have a sweet day, Carla.
ReplyDeleteI just bought some red, white and blue M&Ms this afternoon. Don't they just make you smile!!:)
