Hello Friends,
The iris are blooming. The peonies have huge blossoms ready to pop open any day. The roses are forming buds. Welcome to June in Wisconsin.
It is Wednesday and that means it is time for the Hodgepodge.
Joyce asks the questions.
We answer the questions.
1.What's something you find extremely difficult that most people would say is simple?
I struggle keeping up with technology. Thankfully I have a "high tech" husband and both of our boys will help me.
2. "And so with the sunshine and
the great bursts of leaves growing on the trees, just as things grow
fast in movies I had that familiar conviction that life was beginning
over again with the summer."
~F. Scott Fitzgerald
Does the season of summer make you feel this way? Elaborate.
No, summer does not make me feel this way. I feel more of a restart in the spring.
3. Pickles. Love 'em or no thank you? What's your favorite type of
pickle? What's something you eat that definitely needs a pickle added?
I love pickles. We make a refrigerator pickle. We grow cucumbers for pickling. My mom also makes her own pickles and our entire family gobbles up my mom's pickles.
I love pickles on a hamburger. I also love to eat them right out of the jar.
4. Tis the season...do you know any June brides? Are there any weddings
on your summer calendar? What's your favorite movie wedding?
My sister is a June bride.
No weddings for us this year.
The Sound of Music wedding is a favorite.
5. June 1st is/was National Say Something Nice Day...say something nice here.
"I love your smile."
6. Insert your own random thought here.
There was an owl lived in a oak.
The more he heard, the less he spoke.
The less he spoke, the more he heard.
If men were all like that wise bird.

Beautiful flower pictures! I feel the same way about the Fitzgerald quote- what he says about summer is more spring to me. I have not had good luck with cucumbers in the garden- I'm hoping that will change this year because I love to make pickles, too, with garden cucumbers. My husband is pretty "high tech" as well which is wonderful. Looking forward to seeing more pics of your amazing garden this summer :).
ReplyDeleteThose iris are spectacular! I love them. Mine are trying to open and they're late this year. The weather has been all over the map so I gues that's why. I thought they might not bloom, but they're trying now. My mother-in-law and my daughter's mother-in-law both make refrigerator pickles and keep us stocked. I'm not great at most things tech but my girls are and they help when I need help. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteLove the poem. Sooooo true. I know seeing your flowers in bloom makes your heart sing. I am a big pickle fan. Love all types especially when gifted with homemade. Have a great week ahead. Hugs. Kris
ReplyDeleteI struggle to keep up with technology too. Thank goodness for my girls who keep me right.
ReplyDeleteI had totally forgotten about The Sound of Music wedding. That was a good one.
You're the second one to say Sound of Music! I had forgotten that one. Wow those Irises are gorgeous! Technology - I enjoy it! I'm that person for my husband. He knows the basics but really, he doesn't have the patience - plus he knows I will fix it which sometimes can be difficult for me! Anyway, nice post today Carla.
ReplyDeleteI remember this little poem from long ago, and had forgotten all about it!! The iris are stunning!!
ReplyDeleteLOOOOVE pickles. Make fridge ones too. Just did a pickle, cauliflower and carrot combo last night. Spicy sweet. And I also love making fermented pickles. I love them all. WIshing you a great summer.
ReplyDeleteLovely poem and beautiful photos.
ReplyDeleteThose Irises are lovely! And love your random thought lol.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful flowers...
ReplyDeleteGreat quote...beautiful flowers, wow, so vibrant...and I like the Sound Of Music wedding, too!!
ReplyDeleteI adore purple iris! I also adore pickles and could eat an entire jar. Small one, haha! My favorite wedding is in a classic film starring Katharine Hepburn and Spencer Tracy. It's named Woman of the Year (1942) and the wedding is not between the characters played by Spence and Kate. It's between two secondary characters but the words spoken by the officiant are so beautiful that I had them spoken at the weddings of both Audrey and Erica! xoxo 🏴☠️
ReplyDeleteThe irises are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI agree with you that Spring is more of my reboot/start.
No June weddings in our family.
But I do like dill pickles. On my veggie burger.
Such a wise owl...
The Iris and Peonies are so pretty. I am not good with technology. Yes, spring feels more like a restart. How nice that you make your own pickles. I remember that movie but not the wedding. That's a nice compliment. I like your random thought. Enjoy the rest of your week.
ReplyDeleteOh Carla, can't tell you how much I appreciated your post today. First of all, those Purple flowers made my heart sing. And then, the quote at the end.... I am familiar with that Owl quote, and have used it before. I can relate to so many of your answers. I smiled at the summer one, cause it's not a recharge or restart for me either - just way too warm and dry. And you and your mom making those wonderful pickles! Homemade pickles sound really good. I hope June is good to you, Carla. You deserve all the goodness that June can bring. : )
ReplyDeleteThe iris patch is gorgeous, Carla. June is such a nice time of year, already quite hot around here but the flowers are enjoying it.

The irises and peonies are just budding here. Everything is late. I suck at technology. Before I retired though I had to learn to use the AI Program from Microsoft called Copilot. It was pretty cool. We love pickles on our hamburgers too. Janice
ReplyDeleteYour flowers are beautiful! I love pickles, dill, sweet, mustard - all of them. We grew up making them as well. Spring is more of a restart than summer. I love your uplifting blog, thank you!
ReplyDeleteLove that old adage about the wise owl....lol....wish more people were wise like that! We run a pretty close schedule to yours with weather and growth. We just planted a hedge of American cranberry bushes and bridal wreath to hide a chain link fence on the neighboring property. Can't wait for it to grow a bit and hope it happens fast. I am getting old, you know? LOL.
ReplyDeleteI am not a pickle person except once in a while I like the small sweet gherkins. John loves all pickles so we always have them here and I do make refrigerator pickles from his grandmother's recipe.
Have a wonderful weekend. xo Diana
Your irises are gorgeous. Pansies always remind me of spring. Yours are darling.
ReplyDeleteI love refrigerator pickles. I bet yours are delicious.
Love the Wise Owl saying. I have heard that before.
I hope your garden is growing well. Thanks for always coming to visit me on Tuesdays.
Happy June!
The flowers are so pretty!
ReplyDeleteThis is one of your best Hodge Podge posts. Although I do not eat pickles, olives, or anything with curry in it. That's it of the things I won't eat!
ReplyDeleteOh yes Carla...if men were more like the old owl. I too love pickles and I like them cold right out of jar. My grandmother always made her own pickles and they had the best taste ever... A taste that you don't ever forget..
ReplyDeleteYour Irises are beautiful. Mine are also blooming and my Peonies are all budded. I like pickles but Bread and Butter pickles are my first choice. Spring is a restart for me too.
ReplyDeleteHave a beautiful June. Summer will be here before we know it.
Hugs,
Julia
I love pickles too but go through phases of wanting them and then forgetting about them. Spicy and sour are my faves. My favorite movie wedding is from Mama Mia.
